Ok, I think I have the mime types added correctly, but how do I make it downloadable? All it does is display the content of the file, but it doesn't prompt for a download of said file. Can someone help me out with this please?

Here's a newbie question, sorry; I don't know a lot about apache yet. How do I enable a mime type in apache so that it will enable that type of file to be downloaded? I am working on a side project, but in order for it to work, I need to be able to click on a link, and download the file specified in the link. I have a php script that generates all the header information for the file, but when I click on that link, all it does is display the header and content information on the page rather than prompt me to download it. Any help that anyone here could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That site was the reason I tried to get RT2 and SoF working from the disks I have, plus the demos of each. And By the way Relic2k, I do own the cd and have a valid cd key for SoF; and it seems to be working just fine for me the way I did it.

I just downloaded the zipped mod for UT, there is a config file that you need to overwrite to enable it to work for Linux, but it works great. I love it. Haven't played it much lately, simply because I bought UT2003 and started playing RTCW again; but it is still a classic game, well worth it. Now if I could only find a place around here that sells Linux games I would be set.

That's true, I was hoping to avoid having to buy a game that I have already, but I think I will end up doing so. The only place around here I'm going to find it is ebay, so I don't think it officially counts as a linux purchase. As far as SoF goes, I haven't had any problems yet, I will give it another try when I get home from work and see if it works. I had changed the resolution with the demo and had no problems with it when I copied the .pak files over. I thought copying the .pak files would work with Railroad Tycoon 2 as well, but the executable is different from the demo to the full version so it tells me that it can't find the files when I try to start it up. Oh well. We'll see what I can find.

I already have RTCW, Quake 3, UT, Tac Ops, and UT2003 I was just looking to expand my games. I think I got SoF working, just installed the demo from Loki and copied the .pak files over, but that won't work with Railroad Tycoon 2, which was also ported to Linux by Loki, so it also runs natively. I'm just trying to see if anyone out there has turned the demo into the full version by copying files from a windows install.

I have a couple of games for Windows that I know have been ported over to Linux (SoF, Railroad Tycoon 2, SC3K) My question is this: Is there any way to get these games to run natively in Linux? I don't want to use Wine, and I'd rather not buy the games again, seeing as I have them already. If anyone knows of a way to do this, I would really appreciate the info. I have looked for the Linux installers, but I can't find them anywhere.

OMG that is funny, but sadly, so true. I wrote to Mark Rein, VP of Epicgames, to tell him that I and many people like me bought UT2003 because it came with a Linux installer out of the box. I also had a chat with one of the developers just before the last patch came out about developing more games for Linux. The future of Linux gaming, while not as strong as Windoze (yet), is looking pretty damn good if you ask me. I would much rather run a native port than the same game through a "compatibility layer" like WineX.

If you go into the icon section of the KDE configuration (default for 9.0 is K menu -> Conf. -> KDE -> Look and Feel -> Icons) and click on the browse button to find your icons; navigate to the tarball and click Install New Theme it should install those icons for you. It's worked for me in the past, but I'm not sure about the particular icon pack you have.

For that, just head over to the epic site and grab the dedicated server, that way you can serve when you're not around.

There is a Linux installer on CD 3, but for the dedicated server, you do have to download that separately. From what I've read on the Epic site you do not, however, need the full version of the game to run a dedicated server

I noticed when I looked at my own printerdrake that, where the Z55 isn't there, there are 2 other Z5x printers. Might one of those work?

Just my thought, I had a similar problem with my HP printer until I went into PrinterDrake (found in the Mandrake Control Center) and updated my driver there to point to the correct printer, works like a charm now. Not saying that is definitely your problem, but it might be worth a shot.

I was having the same problem with it whining about failing to mount a floppy during the install. My solution to fix it was to turn supermount on for just the floppy drive (done in MDK Control Center) after that, no more complaining from the installer. Just my experience, yours may vary.

Maybe he knew/though that this would be a good place to get an answer. I know that most of us use MDK on this board, but I for one am willing to help anyone I can with a Linux question; just as I would hope for if I ever had a question about MDK or any other distro.

THANK YOU!!!!! That worked great. The driver was different, but I can now print from OpenOffice.org. It never occurred to me that the printer, while set up right in CUPS, would be incorrect in Printerdrake. Turns out that my system was looking for a printer that it was classifying as a "new Deskjet" and using the default CUPS driver. All I had to do was find the correct (Deskjet 632C) printer from the list, and there was the recommended driver ghostscript+hpjis. Works great now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

surprisingly no. I tried to print a picture I had in The Gimp, and it worked just fine. Used up a hell of a lot of ink, but that's ok. When I go to print a text file, everything looks like it should. The location of the printer is right at /dev/usb/lp0, the print system is set to CUPS. The other driver options I have are print through an external program (generic), generic UNIX LPD print system (default), LPR/LPRng print system, and RLPR environment (Remote LPD servers). The only one of those that is configured anywhere close to correctly is CUPS. I tried changing the config in Printerdrake through MCC, but it just came up and froze on me. I'm really stumped as to what to do here. I can print graphics just fine, but regular text files are a no go.

All you have to do is type the name of the program you're trying to start. Example: gtoaster will start Gnome Toaster, xcdroast will start, you guessed it, X-CD-Roast and so on. Hope this helped.

Ok, I have searched all 3 boards and I haven't seen anyone post anything like this, so here goes: I have an HP DeskJet USB printer that I have configured through CUPS. Everything went fine in the configuration and the test page printed out perfectly; so far, no problem. Any time I try to print with any word processor (Kate, KWord, OpenOffice.org, etc.) all I get is a blank page. I have selected the cups driver from the print dialog, but all the printer does is start up, move the ink arm around a bit, then spit out a blank page. Has anyone seen anything like this? If so, is there a way I can fix it? I had this printer working fine with 8.1, and it works in windows but who wants to restart their computer every time they want to print something?

I followed your links and downloaded the mdbtools from freshmeat.net. Works just great for what I need it for. On another note, though, it turns out that I had to use winblows anyway. Guess I should have read the assignment a little more carefully. Damn M$ bias.

you're right, it would be easier to look at the files in Excel format, but that's not why I need the program. I need to open and change an Access file for a class I'm in. I have looked at Open Office, but that doesn't have what I need. Haven't tried Star Office yet. I will run a search on the old board and see what I can come up with.

I am looking for a program that I can use to edit/save M$ Access .mdb files. I need this for a class I am taking and I hate booting into windows since I got 9.0 configured to my liking. Just curious if there is a prog like that out there in the Linux community. Thanks.
