  1. This question is similar to Kieth's question, but I'm specifically interested in RTMP streams played by a flash player called "JW Player". I'm trying to use rtmpdump but I keep getting errors. In the html page, several parameters are passed to the flash player, including the following: 'streamer' : 'rtmp://ip.address/vod', 'file' : 'reallylongalphanumericstring', 'javascriptid' : 'video', 'type' : 'encrypt', 'enablejs' : 'true' I've also got the url to the swf file used to play the video. My question is, what do I have to give to rtmpdump to download the stream for later? I've tried this: rtmpdump -r rtmp://ip.address/vod -y reallylongalphanumericstring -W http://url.to/player.swf -o output.flv but I just get the error: Connecting ... INFO: Connected... ERROR: rtmp server sent error ERROR: rtmp server requested close I also tried the options -l 2 (to specify encryption), -a video (to specify the application name), but nothing works. I also tried the verbose option but just see things like: DEBUG: HandShake: Genuine Adobe Flash Media Server DEBUG: HandShake: Handshaking finished.... DEBUG: RTMP_Connect1, handshaked DEBUG: Invoking connect INFO: Connected... DEBUG: Property: <Name: level, STRING: error> DEBUG: Property: <Name: code, STRING: NetConnection.Connect.Rejected> DEBUG: Property: <Name: description, STRING: Connection failed.> which doesn't bring me much closer. It seems to be at least trying to use encryption and handshaking, but just gets a rejection message. Has anyone done something similar to this with more success?
  2. 24 hours? :o It sounds like something's wrong with your config. When a popular new distro has just come out, the direct download should be slower than usual (due to the servers being overloaded), and the torrents should be faster than usual (due to a high number of seeds). My torrent came down in about 20-30 mins, I didn't try a direct download. But during the first week or so after a new release, it's good to encourage people to use the torrents I think.
  3. I don't understand. Why wouldn't you want to use the torrents, it's the ideal way of getting it so soon after release. I got my iso via torrent yesterday, and it whizzed down the tubes, excellent!
  4. Well, if so many distros are failing on your PC, then surely you must admit, each of those live distros has gone through extensive testing and work for many, many, many other PCs. So it sounds like there's something about your PC which these CDs aren't coping very well with. Do you have some strange video card perhaps which needs some special drivers? Obviously, for most people the live CD doesn't ask for any username or password, it just goes straight into the desktop. It sounds like for you, X is failing to start and crashing you back to the white-text-on-black-background login screen, am I right? So if you can get to the X logs or the messages logs, then you might be able to see what's going wrong... but of course you need to login somehow to get to those files... I thought the combination was guest/guest, or perhaps guest without a password, but I haven't got a Mandriva KDE4 live CD to hand, unfortunately. If anyone does have one then the output of "whoami" from a terminal prompt would be very useful!
  5. More details in the okteta faq. Their page says they're at version 0.4, but Mandriva's version number in updates is 4.3.5-0.4 which I guess is the same.
  6. Yeah but if the OP is using KDE4, then things aren't just "not the same as windows" but also "not the same as lots of other stuff". And you have to admit, some of KDE4 is unintuitive.
  7. Wow, that's quite sad news, and for me at least quite surprising. They actually talk about "the end of the month" too, which is before the scheduled shipping date of 2010 Spring... I wonder what will happen next?
  8. Seems like a wasted marketing opportunity. Shame. When it starts off with "Welcome in Mandriva online documentation" and "Introducing to Mandriva Linux" then you can tell they could really do with involving their English-speaking community, and spending some effort with things like this. Looking at the license, it seems that it should be possible to turn their HTML into a pdf or even into a real paper book, and even commercial distribution is permitted, but then they say you need permission to distribute paper copies for some reason... So there goes any incentive for the community to step in and do the conversion / translation / editing for them. On the other hand, downloading those online docs and turning them into a local resource for grepping or printing should be fairly straightforward, and obviously within the licensing rules.
  9. But I guess you're not having problems with Mandriva 2006, as the original poster was... What version have you tried to install, and what happened when you tried?
  10. I haven't got any peeve with any particular distribution as such, but I do have a problem with unwanted regressions. Something which used to work fine, and then got broken. For example, KDE3.5 worked beautifully with Mdv2008.1, and I was happy with it. I didn't want to use KDE4 yet, so I tried to use Mdv2009 with KDE3, and there were many things which were broken and awkward. Things didn't work properly any more. As a result I'm now using gnome, but there shouldn't be any reason why I couldn't continue to use KDE3, especially if at that time KDE4 clearly wasn't ready yet. Another example, the Intel video drivers. Again, they worked fine in 2008.1, but then they got broken, not only for Mandriva but also for other distros. So something which used to work fine, suddenly doesn't work any more. As a result, 2009.1 didn't work _at_all_ for me, so I downgraded to 2009.0, which had many other issues of its own. Without knowing the technical issues behind it, it just seems like someone broke something, and even though they still have the old, working code somewhere, they've ditched it in favour of broken code in the name of 'progress'. Which sucks. Of course, maybe the new code fixes other peoples' problems, I don't know, but for me it's an unnecessary and very annoying step backwards. I still have occasional crashes in my Intel video drivers, so I'm just hoping they get fixed again sometime.
  11. For 2008.1, the default version of inkscape is 0.45. If you want 0.46, you'll have to enable the backports repository. I think this is more likely to result in success than trying to install 2009.0 or 2009.1 packages, which it sounds like you might have been trying to do?
  12. Ask them if they'll accept pdfs instead - in my experience creating an odt file in OpenOffice and exporting it as pdf is the most reliable way of providing it in a readable format and retaining access to the original document. I don't see what's this story about 2007 compatibility being new, as far as I've seen OpenOffice has been able to do this for years...
  13. And Windows-only, you nincompoop.
  14. No worries, thanks for all your help so far anyway! I left the credit as " + altro" :)
  15. Thanks, YinYeti! And thanks, demonseth17 too! As with tux99, if you want your name or your nickname listed in the credits, just tell me what you prefer. I understand what you say about the foreign words, it's difficult. Especially specific words like "track", "waypoint", and such words. Some translators have translated those terms, some have kept the English words, I leave it up to them. Also computer terms like the path to a program - is it a camino, a ruta, or a dirercción? Probably none of those things, I don't know! I made some corrections and some additions to the Spanish - could you check them please? As for Russian, of course I'm very open to any offers. Obviously native-speaker help is best, but if you "know some" then it could at least get it started and maybe someone else would help to take it further. I can easily create a Russian page if you like?
  16. You can see your files from the terminal? Or only when you are root? If you can see your files then it's certainly not a hardware problem.
  17. I find tvbrowser works well and looks good, but it's written in java so maybe it's that "thingy" you mentioned...
  18. Thanks a lot, tux99! I didn't expect so many translations in one go! The texts you added are now available for people to use with the currently released version. It looks really cool, thanks very much! The final version 9 texts are now also up there, so if you feel like doing some of those then please do! :) You didn't say how you wanted to be credited though, would you like your name or nickname in the credits? <offtopic> About Mandriva 2010.0, yes I've tried it out as a live version and you're right, it does look good. And it seems to work quite well from what I saw (using the Gnome version). However I'm trying out Debian for a while yet, and I'm not in a rush to reinstall. I'll certainly keep my eye on 2010 Spring when it comes out. But I'm still keeping clear of KDE for a while! </offtopic>
  19. Here comes a new year, a new decade, a new version of my program, and a revival of this thread :P As before, any and all help is welcome, even if it's just a couple of translations. The highest priority languages are those which are nearly complete, which include Japanese, French and Chinese. It would be nice to get those fully complete before I make the release, if possible. Also, any improvements to the Italian, Spanish and Turkish texts would also be greatly appreciated. As before, contributions can be taken in this thread, or by email, or directly in the translation wiki. Translators will be credited in the application if they wish. I'm hoping to release sometime in January so that gives a couple of weeks for translations, testing and cosmetic tweaking. Thanks in advance!
  20. It's Mandriva, not Mandrake. The python runtime isn't "concatenated to the kernel", it's just an interactive command line application. It's great for trying things out, especially simple exercises and tests, because you can see what happens right away. For editing a real program, you can use any editor, but preferably one that you're already familiar with. And preferably one which can colour the texts according to python syntax. You could try bluefish or scite; if you're using KDE then try Kate, if you're using Gnome then try gedit. If you want to get more sophisticated you could try eclipse or IDLE. One other tip - check which version of python you're using. Type the following in your console: python --version There are some differences between python 2.x and 3.x, so it's a good idea to know what you've got. Especially if (as you say) you've installed more than one version of python already.
  21. Oh, ok, I hadn't spotted that 2009.1 does it too. It makes sense that Ubuntu says 9.04 and Gentoo says no version but I figured that Mandriva should say 2010.0 (or 2009 Autumn) rather than 1.9.something-2mdv - it looks like a mistake.
  22. Has anyone noticed the strange version numbers reported by Firefox on Mandriva 2010? If you go to Help->About it says 3.5 as you might expect, but if you go to "about:" in the url bar then it shows version 1.9.1.3 ?! The user agent it reports to websites contains "Mandriva Linux/1.9.1.3-2mdv2010.0 (2010.0) Firefox/3.5.3" which looks like it's the version number from xulrunner. Could this be a packaging mistake or is it intended to use the version numbers this way? Yes I know it doesn't really matter but I'm just curious.
  23. I think the idea behind "first and last" is that the file gets its allocated space early and doesn't have to be shifted around as it grows. So it reduces copying work and reduces defragmentation. Most (or maybe all) clients will try to download the first chunks of files, maybe to get the headers intact early. So you might be able to play a few seconds of the file to check that it is what you think it is. However, the algorithms for efficient use of the network and efficient uploading of your files to others will break down if you try to force which order the chunks get downloaded. So the network won't work as well and both you and others will have to wait longer for the content. I think the best thing to do is go and do something else while the client figures out the best way to download it for you. Torrenting is not a streaming medium.
  24. +1 for 2008.1 being a great version. I tried to upgrade to 2009.1 but had the same problems with the Intel drivers as you guys - complete failure. Then I tried to install 2009.0 but had a different set of problems there - I should have stayed with 2008.1 as you said...
  25. And each of the elements in the "main" matrix is a 3x3 matrix too? Looks to me like you just have a 9x9 big matrix then, with lots of zeroes in it!
