  1. Maybe not enough people reported it? Only common bugs are mentioned in the Errata. When I used rpmdrake it was working OK most of the time. I installed smart with it.
  2. You can install skype with the software manager instead of the plain rpm command. that should take care of the dependencies. Where did you get your java package and what file did you download?
  3. As I wrote into the other thread the new rpmdrake is a complete rewrite not just a new version. The bugs will be fixed be patient and report them (http://qa.mandriva.com) Until then use smart.
  4. JRE is not in plf and I couldn't find a JRE Mandriva package anywhere when I needed so I just installed it from java.com.
  5. What was that choice? Anyway try right clicking on the desktop. On some window managers that brings up the menu. You can reboot if you type su in the console, give the root password and then type reboot.
  6. The new rpmdrake is a complete rewrite of the old one not just an improvemed new version and it's missing some functions which the old one knew. I tried it twice and didn't like the dependency handling and packages not showing up in the list etc so I followed wobo's advice and I installed smart and KSmartTray and I'm pleased with it. At the moment it's much better than the new rpmdrake. After they fixed the issues with rpmdrake I'll try it again but for now smart is my choice.
  7. That just makes you two potential candidates for a long Ulteo review after the secrecy is over.
  8. Novell Microsoft Collaborate FAQ Tell it to Netscape. Or the antivirus\security software writers. If it depends on MS they would be out of the league after Vista comes out. For me it looks like Novell is paying royalty to MS for nothing. Oh yes for not suing them, but Novell is one of the companies which can hold on in a lawsuit going on for years. Porting the MS xml based document format to OOo. Big deal, if it's that open as MS says so than Sun would have done it. Not to mention that how it will affect accepting ODF now. How is this deal even remotely smart?
  9. Another thing about the mirrors: main/backports, contrib/backports, contrib/testing and contrib/updates are up and running now on the servers. There are a few things in them yet if they're not empty but with time they will fill up. Hopefully Beryl will find its way there soon. http://www.happyassassin.net/2006/10/31/ba...n-for-business/
  10. I don't see it that darkly as others do. What did really change? Novell will pay a royalty to MS and make some other minor things which doesn't make sense to me. But really, does anyone think that MS will sue everybody now? They are still that monopoly with the EU anti-monopoly comitte (or whtever they are called) on their neck. If MS chooses to sue they can do it with or without this agreement. Novell is sold out it's sad but not the end of the world.
  11. AFAIK it comes with 3 months Cedega subscription. Also this years Mandriva box contains Flatout, and LinDVD. So this year you actually get something for your money. Support in the club forum is a hell of a lot more better since Adam and RJ are there. But you can use the club forum for free. There is a free membership called Aluminium or Alumni.
  12. Judging from their website, Ulteo is not just a dumbed down terminal. It's just one application of the OS.
  13. Some reactions: Novell sells out (GrokLaw) Microsoft and Novell: Fox marries chicken, both move into henhouse (ZDNet)
  14. Fglrx 8.30.3 has been released. No new features in this release - just a few bugs has been fixed, but there are still some more left. Can be downloaded from here (x86) and here (x86_64). source : hup.hu
  15. Why is the secrecy? Isn't it open source? Or you can't explain that too?
  16. Perhaps it's part of it, but building super computers won't save them and they know it. That's why they got rid of IRIX and changed to Linux. I bet they will start to make cheap servers if they haven't started yet. That's what can save them.
  17. I've found a Mandriva rpm of the new beta Flash plugin here: http://zarb.org/~plouf/test/ Of course it's unofficial so use at your own risk. I can't find java packages anywhere though.
  18. Sun is releasing Java under an OSI approved open source license. Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz already announced this in May, but this time on the Oracle OpenWorld conference, he announced a timeframe of 30-60 days. The license is likely to be the same as OpenSolaris's license. More about this here. source: hup.hu
  19. I think it all proves my ponit (well it's not my point but I agree with it). 8-10 years ago SGI was a profitable company a leader in high-end computer graphics. They should have started to make cheap consumer products (yeah it's easy to be smart now) this is what Apple is doing now. They had the know-how, an engeneering team and money to make it. Unlike many garage companies they shouldn't have to start from zero everything. OpenGL could be the leading graphics library. If they really start to make video chips\cards they have to fight with DirectX which everybody are using now. Conclusion: no matter how first clas is what you are developing you have to sell it too.
  20. What about XGL\AIGLX and Beryl\Compiz? No word about them in the release notes. Is it as easy to install and configure them as in Mandriva?
  21. I heard an interesting opinion about this. Ten or more years ago SGI machines already knew what recent computers know today in graphics but of course for a way more money. If they choose to make video chips instead of sticking with high-end servers and their own version of UNIX, no matter how good they were, maybe we would know them as a market leader instead of a company which nearly went bankrupt. So much about their bad luck, they just made a wrong decision and they paid for it dearly.
  22. After a day, SGI has returned to NASDAQ. SGI has sued ATI for violating patent number 6,650,327. more info: The Register source: hup.hu
  23. In other words they are hesitant to implement a Microsoft technology which is maybe patented or will be patented. And\or they are waiting for the technology to go public since:
