ramfree17
in an effort to beef up my Duron800 machine, i am in the process of acquiring the video card in the title to replace my crappy Savage on-board chip. my question is if its worth my $25. currently i cant do any gl-related applications (re:games) on my machine because DRI is not currently supported (althought there are reports that they are in development) and openGL is too slow in my machine. getting back the 32MB allocated in my onboard card is also nice. :) ciao! kmack
ramfree17, I have a 32MB Asus TNT2 card and it works pretty well. I can do most game, but I'm not into the heavy stuff. So far it has more than met all my needs. It does 3D and glx gears runs well on it too. If you're on a tight budget, it is an OK choice I think. 64MB would give more options, but unless you are into heavy stuff this will work great. I do Flight simulator, etc on it and don't have problems. :)
DragonMage
I think for $25, you can get at least a GF2MX. With that chipset, you can get quite a large performance gain compared to TNT2. However, that will depend whether you can find a video card with GF2MX for that much money.
ramfree17
i wish but finding a PCI-based accelerated gfx card here in Manila is a daunting task. now if only somebody will send me over one of those babies. ciao!
zero0w
Why don't you think of changing motherboard so that you can use an AGP display card? It's not expensive to find a second hand motherboard to support Athlon/Duron/XP nowadays.
Ixthusdan
Make sure it is a tnt2, and not a simple tnt. I also think a gforce chip would be just as cheap and better, but you can only get what you can get!
