ral
I have tried X-Chat. Works okay, but I was wondering if there is a better one. Thanks.
spiedra
Try Gaim. Not only does it work with your common messeging clients, but also with irc. :)

Guest FenestraeNunquam
I just came across this old post, guess I'll just add my questions to this one. I have been using during the last couple of months different mIRC programs under windoze. I am new to the whole IRC thing. I don't chat (or at least very little). I just mostly hang out on the file sharing channels for mp3s, usually on dal.net. Anyway, when I start using Linux again after almost a year of not using it, I will want to keep getting on dal.net and joining my favorite channels, and grabbing mp3s (just for "preview" purposes of course). Was just wondering if I could get on dal.net with an IRC program while in linux. Under windoze, I have used plain old mIRC and also I have used a "scripted" one, which I prefer. When I found out about mirc a couple of months ago (under windoze) I realized that it blows away p2p progs such as audiognome, kazaa, blah blah, limewire, blah blah blah. So I just hope under linux I can do it too.
hugerobot
1. Yes. you can get to dalnet IRC servers using IRC clients in Linux. 2. Use xchat.
Ronin
I use Irssi and Scrollz but they're both term clients. I haven't found a better X one then X-Chat. What's the problem you're having with it? Heck for that matter you can always install Wine and get a copy of mIRC to run in it.
ral
Not having ptoblems with xChat really. Just wondering if it was the best one. I have run mIRC with wine, but I avoid using wine when a native linux aoo can do the job (and so far, I have always managed to fidn a native Linux app). 83mercedes
I am trying to figure out how to make 'obsidian' work with xchat. (An f-serve add-on perl script for file sharing). If anybody could give some pointers, I will greatly appreciate it. I have a feeling I am just missing somthing simple. Thanks in advance. Ronin
For X clients I don't think X-Chat can be beat. For term clients I like Irssi, Scrollz and then BitchX.

MoonChild
savIRC is an exact clone written in tcl/Tk if you want to try that one. It works just fine.
