scarecrow
There's already a lot of talk, if picking xorg 1.5.0 and thus breaking (ATM) the prorietary 3D driver for all ATi cards, plus many nvidia ones (up to 5XXX series) was a wise move. IMO they should wait for ATi/Nvidia to come with a solution, and backport 1.5.X at some time. Mandriva did not pick xorg 1.4.2 for 2009.0 randomly, after all. adamw
...also featuring 3G support in networkmanager and DKMS for external modules. Welcome to 2004, guys! OK, OK, that's my only cheap shot, I promise. :)
tyme
OK, OK, that's my only cheap shot, I promise. :)But I like the cheap shots :P Where's the non-user-friendly feature list?
scarecrow
I don't think there's any point talking about things that should be in *buntu since a long time ago, and they were ported just now. They are certainly welcome. But adding things like xorg 1.5.0, with the vague hope that issues with (virtually) the majority of the current desktop systems will be resolved upstream, is (IMHO) not a wise choice. So far, I have only tried the Xubuntu flavour, and I'm just as dissapointed as ever. Still, a bucketload of Gnome dependencies, and the only visible change is Listen as the default music manager- ironically enough, an application which has not issued any new release since twenty months ago. Oh well...

tyme
You're just envious of a superior marketing machine :PGood Marketing != Good Distro. I'd rather have the latter - and Ubuntu is not a good distro (for me, anyways - though it may be for others). and no, i'm not trying to start a distro war :P Edited October 31, 2008 by tyme
arctic
Quick reminder for everyone: Please don't start a distro-war. Criticism is okay, but bashing is not - so please keep this discussion civil. :)

Artificial Intelligence
8.10 is a great release. We got alot of positive feedback :) There's already a lot of talk, if picking xorg 1.5.0 and thus breaking (ATM) the prorietary 3D driver for all ATi cards, plus many nvidia ones (up to 5XXX series) was a wise move.IMO they should wait for ATi/Nvidia to come with a solution, and backport 1.5.X at some time. Mandriva did not pick xorg 1.4.2 for 2009.0 randomly, after all. So far it havn't been a problem with xorg 1.5.0 and the drivers. I'd rather have the latter - and Ubuntu is not a good distro (for me, anyways - though it may be for others). then it's good there's almost a distro for every taste out there ;)

Artificial Intelligence
So A.I., when can we see your new desktop of the 8.10 release? I always enjoy your excellent taste in desktop colours and styles! Properly soon, but I'm thinking off to make complete guides to set them up exactly as mine, maybe making a script for it.
