md5 checksum [solved]

My Mandriva 2009 live cd freezes. How can I check the md5 sum? I suspect a download problem but can't find a checksum.

If it's KDE int the md5 sum is db8617b393a55926c04fd4ac772798ee

The checksum is normally in a file located with the ISO that you downloaded. You can download the ISO, and also download the md5sum file also to compare it later.

Well yes, that's what I've always done but I couldn't find it this time.

After you select the country from the drop-down list don't click on the links you see rather copy the link and paste it in your address bar. This should take you to a page with all the available Mandriva iso's and md5sum's.

 

You can correct the iso by using bittorrent. Grab the corresponding torrent from here: http://torrent.mandriva.com/public/ start the torrent, let it create the torrent folder then stop it. Next copy the corrupt iso to the folder the torrent created and in your bittorrent client force a recheck of the torrent. Only the missing corrupt pieces of the iso will be downloaded.

I didn't know this; does it really work like that? That is a very neat trick if one has a broken DVD-image (or any other large file) downloaded.

Yep, one of the beauties or bittorrent. But it only works if there's a torrent of the same exact file you downloaded through ftp or http. That's a rare case but it is very applicable when it comes to Linux distribution isos.
