This one is common with Mandy 9.1. I've had it.

Simply logout and restart the X server (control alt backspace)

And it won't happen till next time you start your machine.

It's happened to me too. And a lot of other people

I am yet to try this myself but there might be an update for this. So check out updates or download tyme's Mandy 9.1 update ISO. It's on the downloads somewhere.

It is the Xfree 4.2.1 hardware acclerated thats giving me problems.

I reinstalled with the 3.6.1, I think, and didnt have any problems running netconf.

I will do it with the configs, I was just being lazy anywase, to many years of Windows and it's wizards have made Slagathor a lazy boy....... :?

Thanks for the time guys.........

P.S. It is Mandrake 9.0, maybe I should give 9.1 a go.......

You probably changed your hostname, and didn't log out and back in, so X didn't know who it should allow connections from.

I tested it on 9.1 with XFree86-4.3 (not that I think X version makes a difference) with no problems.

This is just your Xpermisssions

If you login from xdm/kde/mdkdm/gdm your user owns the x display.

By default only that user can start an app on the X display.

If you login manually or use the autologin then that user owns the display.

If you try and start an app as another user (root) then root doesnt have permissions.

The quickest solution is:

Open a new terminal with the user owning the desctop (ie from the menu)

type

xhost +

then su - <newuser>

********

Run command.

Anyway that will work but its insecure ... you should rean man xhost.
