Lost desktop Home icon [solved]

I hope some one can quickly help me to putting the HOME icon back on the desktop and without the link symbol attached to it..

Must be older age because I can't remember the quick solution that I used a number of years ago when I happened to do the same thing.

What about just dragging the one from the taskbar/panel/kicker whatever you like to call it, drag it,select copy here. That any good?

 

Or you can just Right Click- Create New- Link to Location (URL) etc, etc, call it Home, give it the same icon.

Thanks Aphelion.

 

I delete the Home Icon on the Panel shortly after install to gain space on the Panel. So that idea goes nowhere I am afraid.

 

I know the 2nd method you mention but I am fairly positve there is a simpler way but I cannot remember it.

Errm.. have you checked the trash can already? As you deleted the icon, it should have been moved to the trash first, before you finally kill it.

Unless he is like me, the trash can is only for decoration, nothing ever goes there, delete is delete, the end of the road.

Thanks Arctic but I deleted it entirely and not to the trash can. I did check there as you suggested just in case.

 

Thanks FFII but that is not the answer I am seeking. I know there is a simple way and I want to find it so I can make a permanent note of it in my Notebook (a real one, not a digital one).

drag the home icon from the kickoff menu (it is under favorites) to the panel (or desktop), there used to be one in the normal kmenu but is seems gone....

 

edit: it is under system menu and has to be enabled in panel settings, you can also drag the home icon in the konqueror side panel to the desktop or panel.

Thank you FFI that was the one. Home used to be in the menu but is not anymore. That is why I could not remember it.

 

Actually the Home Folder was in the Computer part rather than the Favourites, so from there it was plain sailing. After the drag and drop it was only necessary to Rename and Apply the Home icon itself. Logged out and back in and still there so all is OK now thanks to you.

I was going to suggest re-add the home icon to the task bar shift+drag it off to move it and thus delete the task bar icon in one go, but it won't let you so you would have to remove it from the task bar again manually. A PITA once more.

 

This did lead me to thinking (a bit off topic , sorry) what happens if you copy your home directory to your Desktop (on indeed any folder to one inside itself - does it just go into a loop until you run out of space?
