ilia_kr
checking how to run the C++ preprocessor... /lib/cppconfigure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check This what i get when i try to install some KDE theme. What does it mean and how can i solve this? [moved from Software by spinynorman]
arctic
I hope you have all compilers installed. If yes, then look at your config.log file and check what it says. Let's assume it says something like: cc1plus command not found then check if cc1 is there /sbin/locate cc1 Now let us assume you get a positive result similar to that: /usr/lib/gcc/i-386-linux-gnu/3.4.1/cc1 then you will probably only need to symlink the entry in /usr/bin ln -s /usr/lib/gcc/i386-linux-gnu/3.4.1/cc1 cc1plus After that, it should work. Good luck.
scoonma
Hm. Wouldn't it be easier and more clean to "rpm -q gcc" and "urpmi gcc" if the first fails? Anything else I'd give as parmeters to .configure (see ./configure --help | less). Plus checking the makefile before "make". Which means do you use installing the KDE theme? arctic
If he has already installed the gcc package, then a reinstall is unlikely to fix a missing symlink that is caused by a badly configured rpm. Anyway, if it really IS a problem with the package, then a bug-search/bug-report should be done. PS: he is using Fedora, thus: yum instead of urpmi. :)

dexter11
Which theme is that?
arctic
Is this Klearlook you want to install? It is available here: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idp...5.i386.rpm.html From the log you gave, my guess is that the tarball was built with a different compiler version than the one you are using. Thus the error 1 exit.
scoonma
My interpretation of the logfile is that package QtCurve does not get built because of the reason which is also mentioned in the log: configure:3805: checking for g++ configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for c++ configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for gpp configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for aCC configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for CC configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for cxx configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for cc++ configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for cl configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for FCC configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for KCC configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for RCC configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for xlC_r configure:3834: result: no configure:3805: checking for xlC configure:3834: result: no configure:3847: checking for C++ compiler version configure:3850: g++ --version </dev/null >&5 ./configure: line 3851: g++: command not found configure:3853: $? = 127 configure:3855: g++ -v </dev/null >&5 ./configure: line 3856: g++: command not found configure:3858: $? = 127 configure:3860: g++ -V </dev/null >&5 ./configure: line 3861: g++: command not found configure:3863: $? = 127 configure:3866: checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler configure:3890: g++ -c conftest.cc >&5 ./configure: line 3891: g++: command not found configure:3896: $? = 127 Presumed the rpm is fine, configure is looking for a c++ compiler which is simply not installed. Which compiler are you using? Otherwise I'd take care of the QtCurve source: Is it a package on it's own? Are up-to-date devel packages available? I can't see why different compiler versions (tarball/system) should cause an error here. A match is rather an exception than normal when building applications. (However, differences in major version, building a kernel or glibc may not to be ignored.) At least this is what experiences tell me. Am I wrong with that? arctic
No, you are not wrong with that. But I experienced it sometimes in Slackware that programs would not compile because of different compilers (app compiled with newer compiler than Slack provided). Should not be happening, but it did happen. Don't ask me why. I somehow failed to see that gcc error (I must be blind), thus it is of course more probable that gcc libraries are not installed than a problem caused by different compiler versions. ilia_kr
Well, I have the whole development package group installed on my FC4, including C, C++, Java, Python and many more, co I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work. I think it might be a package installation problem, because my "Add or Remove Applications" program can't add or remove a think because it has some dependancies problem, but 'yum groupinstall' works fine. Should i reinstall FC4 windows-like?
arctic
Have you tried cleaning your cache before downloading the packages? yum clean all As you have the gcc stuff installed, my first hint (different compilers being used) is not so unlilkely anymore. But in that case I don't know a fix. Have you checked if you can try the symlinking trick?
ilia_kr
I don't know what is symlink, and didn't quet understand what did you suggested earlier. Please explain that again.
arctic
A symlink is a linkage of one or more files to one specific parent file on your system. Linux systems have various symlinks. E.g. in /boot you can find the vmlinuz symlink, which actually redirects to the default, complete vmlinuz entry, e.g. vmlinuz-2.6.12-blablabla. Thus, you can use the full vmlinuz-2.6... entry or the short vmlinuz entry in the bootloader script (lilo or grub). In your case, it is possible that a redirection to the parent compiler entry might be missing. The script will search for the compiler, following the instructions of the scripts it has available. After some time, the system will realize that it entered a a dead-way as the compiler it needs is located elsewhere. Thus the system will look for a redirection to the compiler-entry it needs. Without the now needed symlink, it cannot find that entry and thus quits. I hope this makes it a bit comprehensible.
