spinynorman
Google has confirmed it is working on a desktop linux project called Goobuntu, but declined to supply further details, including what the project is for... tyme
uh...on the other side of the web, we here this: Google denies plans to distribute OS... o_O
arctic
I ask myself who comes up with those rumours and for what purpose... It's getting kinda ridiculous imho.
ramfree17
it just part of the viscious it news circle. it doesnt matter if google denies plans of making one since they have done the same for the instant messaging application. if they find it to their advantage to launch their own linux distro then all is well as it is their prerogative. ciao! zachwor
The question is whether a Google OS will be full of ways to deliver it's customers AdSense. Afterall a entire OS devoted to studing the habits of individuals would be a great way to sell customized ads, a business that Google knows alot about. wilcal
"Goobuntu" - Live-CD If that actually happened and Google made them as available as what AOL did some years back I suggest they would make a serious dent in the M$ market. There is going to be a lot of posturing of competitive products to Vista and Goobuntu for free would certainly be one. If Vista stumbles just a little it's gonna be curtains for M$ at least in the desktop workstation market.
scarecrow
If Vista stumbles just a little it's gonna becurtains for M$ at least in the desktop workstation market. Highly speculative, at best. No matter if Vista will be a lemon or not, Windows will be the market's lions share, for the next 5-6 years, at least. zachwor
I doubt any major computer vendors are going to be selling anything but Windows Operation Systems on their machines for several more years. Every time Dell and HP hint at possibly shipping computers with other operating systems, even computers without an OS, Microsoft pulls them back in. It would take alot of Google muscle and users to push it onto computers ship directly from manufacturers.
mystified
I just read somewhere about HP shipping computers with Mandriva to something like 47 countries in South America. So maybe windows stranglehold is changing.
