tenebrous_paradise
im having a problem AGAIN sorry... but im trying to put java into my browser and it keeps telling me permission denied.. im logged in as root maybe i have the command wrong, but i found the file and it has a lock thing on it, so i looked at the properties, under permissions and i cant change anything on it to make it accessible.. i was going to mannually move it to my mozilla plugin folder but it wont let me do that either. ive been toying with it for a while and ive run out of ideas as to what to do.. bonnie
Aomighty
Are you in konqueror or in the command line? What I'd recommend is making a symbolic link - that is, a file that simply points somewhere else. Make a symbolic link in your mozilla plugins directory to /usr/java. to do that by command line, go to root, then cd /home/username/.mozilla/plugins ln -s target linkname Follow the directions on the java for what to put in the symbolic link. If you are root it should work.
tenebrous_paradise
ive already tried that about 50 times. im probably doing something wrong but ive tried fallowing the instructions on the java site and it made the plugin but it didnt put it where it belongs <in the mozilla plugins folder> and i cant move it to that folder because it tells me "permission denied" even with the konsole when i type out the command it does the same thing says "permission denied". bonnie
Aomighty
Ok, fair enough. What exactly is the command you typed? Use copy+paste.
tenebrous_paradise
alright i got it where it needs to be </usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-1.0.2/plugins> its still got the lock on it im not sure if that matters then i went to edit, preferences, web features, enable java, enable java script were both marked but when i go to a java site it still tells me im missing javascript plugin.. i typed cd /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-1.0.2/plugins su ln -s /home/tenebrous_paradise/jre-1_5_0_05-linux-i586.rpm/plugin/i386/ns7-gcc29/libjavaplugin_oji.so the libjavaplugin_oji.so is in my /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox-1.0.2/plugins folder so i closed the browser opened it enabled java and javascript, went to a site that involved using java it told me im missing the java plugin..... dexter11
Just to make sure of some things. How did you install java? did you give this name to the java directory: jre-1_5_0_05-linux-i586.rpm ? I'm trying to say if you downloaded the rpm.bin file, and it seems you did, you have to install the rpm file after unpacking the bin file. tenebrous_paradise
hey, im still having a java prob but my BIGGER issue is i messed up my sisters computer.. she finally decided to put linux on there and when i did it for her something went wrong..i rebooted the pc after installing mandriva and it comes to the screen where it says "linux" or "failsafe" i tried selecting both and it says "bios data check sucessfull... uncompressing linux ok... booting the kernal... " then it shuts off i cant get past that point... shes not too happy with me right now.. but i tried installing it twice and the same thing.. its not the cds though because they are the same i used on my pc... obviously there is an issue "booting the kernal" i guess its possible that my mandriva cds arent compatible with xp? if not what can i get that WILL install and work <because its too late i already got rid of xp.... oops.. heh.> im not sure if i gave enough info on her computer.. its an hp desktop... intel processor somewhere around 23 gigs of hd space.. thats all i can think of off hand Bonnie

arctic
First, search the file with easyurpmi ( or using the MCC, make sure to have added the PLF mirrors) and try to install that one. The one you are installing is, as it seems a pre-release. Those may work, but equally may not work. And don't forget to log in as root in the terminal. It looks as if you forgot to do that. ;) -> [tenebrous_paradise@localhost Desktop]$ rpm -Uvh mplayer-1.0pre7try2-2.i386.rpm PS: You can always force a install with the rpm -Uvh --force command.
