kompact
How do I play MP3's!
ramfree17
install xmms, amarok, rhythmbox or whatever mp3 player you fancy. xmms' interface looks like winamp. i have not used any other player since it is good enough for me and i keep it minimized anyway so no use for eye-candy. :) ciao! solarian
My fav. is Xmms! I use the Detonation skin, but I mostly use it through xmms-kde applet. Amarok is nice, but I've never had the patience for it to database my whole collection, besides I have my own method of sorting music. scarecrow
Amarok is an exhellent media jukebox. On some distros (Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian, Suse 9.3...) you'll need stuff out of unofficial repos for MP3 playback. Those packages are absolutely unsupported, and may or may not break things. kompact
Haha, I read in many many places that you have to get special apps, etc to play MP3's in linux that I posted this before I even tried. On a whim I tried today - without installing any of the above mentioned software and to my happy surprise in LE 2005 Kaffiene opened up and played my MP3's. Guess I was all set and didn't even know it, lol. Thanks guys = }
solarian
Try XMMS, it looks just like Winamp 2. Very nice in playing music.
null
I asked somewhere on another thread about how to get xmms to play mp3s automatically when you double-click them... When I double-click an mp3 file, xmms comes up but does not start playing the song. I have to drag & drop the song file onto the xmms faceplate. How do you get it to play with just a double-click of a file? I'm using gnome.
