Michael_C15
Im useing Mandrake 10.1 and im setting up ndiswrapper so i can use my Dell wireless 1450 USB Adapter and I almost got everything done with, when i type ndiswrapper -l it detects that my adapter is hooked up. When i type "modprobe ndiswrapper" It gives me this error "Error inserting ndiswrapper (/lib/2.6.8.1-12mdksmp/misc/ndiswrapper.ko Invalid module format" What does that mean? Is there a way i can fix this? [moved from Software by spinynorman - welcome aboard :)]
devries
It probably means that ndiswrapper wasn't build for your kernel version. How did you build the module (or if you used a precompiled module where did you get it from. Is it a Mandrake rpm?)
Michael_C15
I have a 2.6 series kernel and iv tried ndiswrapper 1.1 and 0.8 and neither work. What module are you talking about? Did i forget to download something?
devries
the ndiswrapper is a kernel module (something like a driver in the windows world). You 'install' the module with the modprobe ndiswrapper command. The error you get means that the module you are trying to install (called loading in the linux world) doesn't fit. You need a module that fits your kernel so only use mandrake packages (in this case precompiled ndiswrapper modules) or build it yourself and post the errors you get here. Michael_C15
Okay well i removed the ndiswrapper i had then i installed the one mandrake came with. Now what do i do? I tried installing the .INF file but when i type ndiswrapper -l it says my hardware is not present. And i was looking the mandrake's version didnt install as many files as the other ones. devries
http://mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=14972 :). After modprobe ndiswrapper the next step is: iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed :)
Michael_C15
It didnt work, when i typed modprobe ndiswrapper it said no such file or directory.. And mandrake didnt load a ndiswrapper.ko file at all.
devries
Then you didn't install the right packages. Read the faqs for urpmi. PS. to check if a module is loaded open a console and type: lsmod. The module should be listed in the output.

jaraeez
I installed the only package named ndiswrapper useing the install software program. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi, Have you checked which version you are running (in the CLI type ndiswrapper --version) I found that even after installing the currnet version if the older version isn't uninstalled completely you will invoke the older ndiswrapper. Apologies if you have already tried this..
durvish
exactly right! ndiswrapper will no co-exist with an earlier version -- you can only have one version installed and running
Michael_C15
Well the first time i tried ndiswrapper i was useing version 1.1 and it didnt work and there were no other versions of ndiswrapper installed. hmm is there a way to get rid of the 2.6 kernel and go back to the 2.4 kernel and try it again?
