What is relevant is how the pipeline is utilized, and that is a driver issue. The nvidia driver will properly utilize the advantages of the agp pipeline, whether it is called agp or pci. AussieJohn Posted August 3, 2004 Report Share Posted August 3, 2004 lxthusdan is perfectly correct. Many seem to have forgotten what PCI means. It means "Peripheral Component Interconnect". That is what a Video /Graphics Card is, a Peripheral Component Interconnector which is to connect the Moniter, (which is also a peripheral Device,) to the Computer. The AGP slot is also a PCI slot but the only difference is that that particular AGP slot is dedicated to one particular purpose whereas the other PCI slots can be used to connect any number of other devices to the Computer. lxthusdan is correct in calling it a specialized PCI slot but it is a dedicated slot, dedicated to interfacing with Monitors exclusively. This is the reason it has become very practical to incorporate so many advanced functions into the graphics cards to the point that they are themselves mini computers and so relieve a lot of the load from the CPU. Efforts to change the title of the detection of the slot as AGP is basically wasting time and effort to achieve NOTHING that is not already being obtained by the detection system, especially when there are many more important things to worry about.
