Guest vom
Hello, I installed Mandrake 10.0 and started webmin and when I started apache with "/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd start" The httpd2 failed. Anybody with any ideas why I cannot start apache. Thanks vm [moved from Installing Mandrake by spinynorman - welcome to the board :) ]
streeter
Don't know much about apache, but you will need to post more info for anybody here to help - error messages, logs, contents of config files...
Steve Scrimpshire
Assuming your error messages are the typical ones, you need to update Webmin through the Webmin interface and everything should then be fine.
Guest vom
Hell Steve, How do I update Webmin through the Webmin interface. I am not an expert on Mandrake. Thanks vm
Steve Scrimpshire
Sorry. Click 'Webmin Configuration', then 'Upgrade Webmin', then make sure "Latest version from www.webmin.com" is selected and click 'Upgrade Webmin".
Guest vom
Hello Steve, Sorry to bother but where do I find "Webmin Configuration" in my system? I looked and looked but boooo.... Thanks vm
illogic-al
vi /var/log/httpd/errors
streeter
Type webmin as root at the command line - a web browser should start with the webmin log in page. If the browser does not start, start one and type https://127.0.0.1:10000 in the address box. If webmin is not installed, type "urpmi webmin" illogic-al is suggesting you post the contents (perhaps the last few lines) of the apache error log (to quit vi, type esc colon q). you could also type "tail /var/log/httpd/errors" which may be easier to manage. mondo
Hello Steve, "Sorry. Click 'Webmin Configuration', then 'Upgrade Webmin', then make sure "Latest version from www.webmin.com" is selected and click 'Upgrade Webmin". I followed the above process to upgrade the webmin but it failed with the following error; "Failed to upgrade from www.webmin.com: Failed to lookup IP address for www.webmin.com" My internet is working because I can reach www.webmin.com by putting it on address location. What do you think? Thanks MJ

armondf
Why is everyone so heavily dependent on Webmin around here? Learn to configure apache properly, and you'll not only understand the webserver better, it'll be way more secure. Regards, Armond
Steve Scrimpshire
He asked about Webmin. We answered about Webmin. That's the way it works. Webmin is not a magic wizard, you learn stuff through it as well, it just makes it a little easier to do what one has to do.
armondf
Anybody with any ideas why I cannot start apache. He started with Webmin, but it didn't start. That to me seems more of an Apache issue than a webmin issue......
