kilimanjaro
I tried 7 different media players and none of them will play some dvds I rented last night. I just installed 10.0 OE. With 9.2 it was playing them fine, but I had to use an older version of mplayer.
mystified
Have you tried using the 2.4 kernel? I had problems when I upgraded to 2.6 because there was a problem with the drivers for my vid card.
tyme
have you installed the dvd decryption libraries? if not, use easy urpmi to add PLF sources to your software and search for either dvdcss or decss (I can't remember what it's called) and install them. paul
libdvdcss and or libdvdread
tyme
libdvdcss and or libdvdread yeah, what he said.
VeeDubb
libdvdcss and or libdvdread make that AND, not or. Â You need libdvdcss, libdvdread, and some apps require libdvdnav (the good ones require it). Â My personal preference for dvdplayers is XINE. You can use the version on the CD's OR the version in plf, never found a substantial difference. same goes for libdvdread and libdvdnav. libdvdcss is ONLY available through plf. (unl;ess of course you want to find the source and make your life difficult.
paul
I only know this because I purchased an MPEG4/DVD player this weekend :) Â I've been frantically ripping movies into different format (xvid divx5 div4 divx3.11 mpeg2 divx;-) etc etc etc ) BTW ... all seem to play well :) I rippied LOTR TROTK to divx5 3gb, and therefore had to burn it on a UDF disc, it played .. but not well .. re-ripped to divx5 <2gb and it plays perfect. Â So, the only complaint .. it seems the player doesn't like UDF disc .. ah well ... I'll just keep my movies under 2gb :)
kilimanjaro
I had libdvdread. My system then crashed. I am having problems with disc 2 of 10.0, haaaas anyone had this problem?
chris:b
[chris@localhost chris]$ rpm -aq | grep libdvd libdvdplay0-1.0.1-5mdk libdvdread3-0.9.4-2mdk libdvdcss2-1.2.8-1plf libdvdnav0-0.1.9-2mdk  and:  xine-arts-1-0.rc3.6mdk libxine1-1-0.rc3.6mdk xine-plugins-1-0.rc3.6mdk  and:  kaffeine (from contrib) or gxine or xine-ui (or totem)  Bad cd 2? Try the ftp mirrors? It's all there. When you start playback, does your dvd drive spin? If not, check your path/setting: /dev/dvd or /dev/cdrom or /dev/cdrom1
Gowator
in fact like anna says its on the mirrors and libdvdcss is ONLY on PLF! so unless it needs a contrib and your contrib source is set to the Cd it shouldnt be a prob. I usually remove the CD sources after adding the live urpmi ones.
