Good P2P program

Hey all, I'm looking for a good program to download music and stuff like Kazaa.

I tried to install: limewire, kazaa, gift, and edonkey but they all appeared to complicated.

Is their a RPM package for mandrake from RPMDRAKE or URPMI I don't know about.

And if not, which P2P would you recommend thats easy to install, and which GUI (if it needs one) to install if your using GNOME.

Thanks,

SwiftDeath

I'd insist with giFT, the one I use:

[william@poseidon william]$ rpm -qa | grep gift
giftrans-1.12.2-13mdk
libgift0-0.11.6-1plf
gift-gnutella-0.0.5-1oci
gift-fasttrack-0.8.5-1plf
gift-openft-0.2.1.1-4plf
gift-0.11.6-1plf

Hmmm... Those are really hard to install.

I tried overnet and GNU-Gnutella

Overnet installation makes so sense. I have no clue how to install

On GNU-Gnutella I run the configure file, but it never generates the right one.

Newb <----- that needs help

Thanks,

Ok I looked in the fax on how to install eDonkey and I'm applying it to OverNet, since thats their new fast version and I run the program..... and it won't start, I can't even make a username and password so I can use the GUI.

[andrew@localhost OverNet]$ ./overnet0.53.3

[--- Storing settings in '/home/andrew/.overnet' ---]

Upload Queue not loaded

Welcome to Overnet command line client 0.53.3

Enter commands at any time (type '?' for help)

> Aborted (core dumped)

[andrew@localhost OverNet]$

[andrew@localhost OverNet]$

So normally I would type Pass X (my username) Y (My password) to so I could go on with the set-up but I get that Aborted Core Dumped, error.

Thanks in Advance,

I've tried Limewire, mldonkey, Gtk-Gnutella.

Imo, Limewire is by far the best. Unfortunately when its running my PC is so slow thats its almost unusable. My config is old (PIII 733, 128Mb ram). If you have a "normal" config that should be fine.

Install this JAVA Runtime environment first jre:much easier to install than the Sun's one and run the installer in a X console, NOT in a pure text console.

As Limewire is not good for my box, I use Gtk-gnutella but I think that the GUI is really horrible. Not a quality interface.

For me, it is definitely LimeWire. Some people seem to have problems installing it because something is wrong with Java, but for me it has always been the smoothest install and the best program to do P2P.

(By the way Urza9814, happy birthday! :D )

I use mldonkey, which is a multiprotocol P2P. I have only used it for the donkey, overnet and bittorrent networks though.

There's an rpm at PLF and you may install it wtih:

urpmi mldonkey

It then runs using:

mlnet

There are a few guis for it, but it comes with a web gui which is pretty good and is the one I use.

I got Mldonkey to work....

Seems pretty nice, I installed and and opened it up in the web browser.

The only problem is when ever I search for something I never get in results, it will report something like this.

Result of search 3 Reinitialising download selectors 0 results (done

EDIT: It doesn't find anything because it doesn't connect to any servers, and I don't know how to fix that.

I know LimeWire is a really good one, but I'm one of the few that has one of those weird java problems when installing it. I also have java not work on a few sites when I try them out, but when I go to the test java pages it says mine is working.

So maybe my java is just messed up my java, but it does work on most sites.

Besides happypuppy.com and a few others.

Thanks for the help,

SwiftDeath
