ral
When reviewers compare different versions of Linux ML, usually comes out on top...but most of the time, reviewers only look at 2 - RedHat and SuSE. http://www.cnet.com/software/0-429669-8-20...9-1.html?tag=sd
DragonMage
I know that's a pity since Mandrake is as capable as these two distro, if not more capable. However, as a company, Mandrake doesn't have the same pull as the other two. RedHat and SuSE are bigger than Mandrake and those two has made much more headway into the enterprise / server section (where the money and the fame were at before). They have made the right partnerships (with IBM and other big companies). And they made news by creating controversies with RH and its bluecurved desktop and SuSE and its United Linux approach. Mandrake seems to play it too safe to be noticed. I also notice that the CNet "reporters" have as much clue as a plankton. Most of them don't even know what linux is, much more the different distros available if a boxed set doesn't smack them in the head. They are mostly microsoft shills anyway. ral
I am surprised about how ML only features like Supermount, don't receive much attention.
Guest SuGa
... or something great like urpmi
DragonMage
Yeah.. but all of them are GPL, not proprietary... so people can just take it and not even spread the word who originate the programs in the first place. I think Mandrake needs to shake up its image by doing something like copyrighting the mandrake desktop or alienate a pretty big part of the linux community so it goes into the news and reap the harvest of publicity like lindows did
DOlson
I am surprised about how ML only features like Supermount, don't receive much attention. Well, considering that they've managed to break it 2 out of 3 times, I'd say that's a good enough reason to shift the focus to something else. Yeah, urpmi is great. johnnyv
I was gonna say the same thing about supermount but DOlson beat me too it. urpmi is a great tool. I think there must be at least as many mandrake installs as suse. Any polls i see on favourite distro always seem to have mandrake coming out on top. But then again whats that saying? lies, damn lies & statistics.:D http://www.desktoplinux.com/news/NS3606633376.html
ezroller
Mandrake has me so trained to hate supermount now, that I even hate auto mounting on that other system (windoze.)
Glitz
I am surprised about how ML only features like Supermount, don't receive much attention. Let's not drag the supermount skeleton out of the closet. It's not the sort of thing you want to advertise. Glitz.
ral
Sorry, about the Supermount thing. But I have used ML on 3 different PC's and never had any problems with it. Mounting is one area where I noticed Windows users get thrown of easily.
