Do AMDs works well with Linux ?

Recommended Posts

I can't speak for Fedora...

I have a Sony FR-130 laptop (AMD 2000 XP) and it plays very well with both Win XP and Mandrake 9.2 (dual boot machine)

I have used only AMD since the super socket seven days. My last three athlons have ran red hat, Mandrake, MEPIS, Fedora, arch, gentoo, SuSE, and others that I have forgotten! No problems as far as cpu. B)

I think the only problem if you are trying to run 64 bit linux for 64 bit AMD chips, since they are all, as far as I am concerned, Beta quality at the moment. However, if you are using 32 bit linux (even for AMD64), then any kind of linux distro would work well with your computer.

Beware Fedora Core 2! I read in EVERYTHING LINUX yesterday about serious dangers if you have Windows on your computer and you wish to dual boot!

On the link below, scroll down until you find zeroOw's links to two sites describing this problem. One link is to oreillynet.com and the other to bugzilla.redhat.com.
