sud_crow
Hi, Im thinking in switching from Mandrake (although im not using it right now) to PCLinuxOS in its next version.. And i wanted to have some feedback on how it works as a normal install, i mean, how does it handle being on the hard drive, rpm management is good? and all that kind of stuff anyone wants to know :)
Ixthusdan
Since it is based on Mandrake, it will be very familiar. The difference is that texstar seems to make rpm's better than Mandrake! His updates to Mandrake releases were always excellent. Since he is trying to avoid bleeding edge, it is more stable.
capnkirby
Been using PCLOS for some time now as my main distro, I love it!! It is very stable, and easy to use (think Mandrake) but much more progressive. He has ported Synaptic for RPMs as the installer and updater and created stable and unstable directories. My daughters computer runs the stable and has very few problems in any way. My pc runs the unstable, I have Gnome 2.6, the latest XFree, KDE 3.2 and so on. When there have been problems, not many by the way, Texstar has been quick and responsive in getting them fixed either through a simple "delete this directory", or an entire new RPM to install. All in all, I have been very pleased with PCLOS and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. I installed Mandrake 10 on my second partition and just never went there, I just didn't want to..... DragonMage
Look at my sig. I think PClinuxOS is very good for desktop, yet its reliance upon broadband for installing new / upgraded software will hurt those without broadband (like me). grendal
I liked the livecd version, but I never was able to get either ver. 4 or 5 to boot in a hard drive install, I know others had this problem also. I think overall its a good distro (?) but hopefully Texstar can work the bugs out on the installer before the next release.
