What video cards work best with MDK 10 CE?

I have MDK 10 CE running on a Dell Dimension 2400 2.53 GHz P-4 and 1GB of Ram. The onboard video shares 64MB of RAM and I think it is the reason that I am having some issues.

I was using KDE 3.2 but found that my system runs better (i.e. a lot fewer crashes) on Elightenment, but I am still having some problems that I think are related to the video card. If I am wrong could someone please point me in the right direction? :wall:

First, when I boot up two thirds of the time my screen hangs at the blue screen with an "X" cursor instead of moving on to the wristwatch and then the window manager. I can Ctrl+Alt+Backspace and reboot. Sometimes it will boot all the way into Enlightenment, and sometimes it hangs at the same spot.

The other issue has to do with XScreensaver. I have it running almost exactly the way I want it, but after about 8 hrs it stops completely and I get a vertical rainbow across the lower half of the screen. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't do anything at all in this case and I have to hard reboot. :furious3:

Has anyone else had these problems and been able to resolve them? Like I was saying before, I think it may have something to do with the video card and the shared video memory. If that is the case, what card(s) are the best for the mdk distro? I am not a gamer, but do a lot of graphics work and web design.

Good morning,

what does your XF86Config-4 look like? Especially the "Module" and "Device" sections are interesting.

Be sure that you have installed the multitude of updates. There have been lots of kde updates, and Mandrake tool updates, and a kernel update........ I would do all of that first. B)

I tried to install updates, but apparently I am completely up to date (according to MCC)
