phunni
I have a spare hard drive on my PC and I've been thinking about putting Debian on it - mainly just because I've never tried it. my main issue is - how easy is it to dual boot two linuxes? Is it just a case of getting Lilo to boot from a different disk and point it to a different root? Also - how safe is the installation process in terms of my other drive (the one with my main installation on)? Is it easy to make sure it only puts stuff on one particular drive? If necessary I can unplug the other one during the install process - I did that when I had to install windows and didn't want it to destroy my pre-existing Linux install... I'd rather avoid that though if it's not necessary
tyme
you can leave the other hard drive connected, just tell debian to install on the second hard drive...simple :) and don't bother installing lilo, just boot into the other linux partition after the install and edit /etc/lilo.conf accordingly. spiedra
Shouldn't be any problem. I used Libranet along side Mandrake. Libranet uses Grub, but I wanted to use Lilo so after installation, I added Libranet to Lilo and worked like a charm. I am also considering Going for Debian and would like to hear everybody's experience with it. Is it just like Libranet?

Just like? Well....yeah.....except without libranets config tools. Some would argue and say it is not. Some say you can screw up libranet by going full deb sources but it didn't hurt me the 2 times I did it.
spiedra
Hi bvc! I'm going for the Woody! I found a place that is selling it on cd for $5. Seeing that I am now back to dial up. I can't wait to try it out. I'd like to put in a 3rd HD. Is that possible? Edited April 4, 2004 by spiedra

Sarge is very stable and will get you the 'new-er' stuff.
ShadowFoxLSU
Hehe, SID (unstable branch) is more stable than MDK in most aspects...
