Ghil Vertefeuille
ok I have a little problem ;) I unzipped it using bzip2. and then, when I try to run the file from the terminal (wich is ut2004-lnx-demo-3120.run) it says that I don't have the permission to do it...even if I'm root. What do I do? edit: forget it, I made it work ;) and it's cool ^^ Edited February 14, 2004 by Ghil Vertefeuille

aRTee
Quick question: what is the limitation of this demo? What can you not do that you can with the final?
zero0w
Except for the vast number of maps in the retail version + bug fixes, there's not much limitation that I know of. However, it is still difficult to setup team chatting w/ OpenAL and ALSA in UT2004, you can check out the following how-tos to make it work: http://icculus.org/~warp/ut2004/ http://floam.ascorbic.com/how-to/alsa5.1 As a side note, I believe UT2004 also makes use of software rendering on low end display card: http://www.gamespy.com/interviews/february...04/index3.shtml (Notice the answer in the second half of the page) Edited February 24, 2004 by zero0w
aRTee
Crap, this game locked my machine. Actually, it was still running fine, as was the game, I just couldn't get out of it anymore... even ctrl-alt-backspace would not do any good, nor ctrl-alt-del.... tried all else, and the game was running in observer mode, but I just couldn't get out of that... forgot to turn on the ssh server, so no way to remote logon and kill the process. Which left me with only the reset button... Next game: Savage2. Really nice, rts combined with fps -- and there my machine really completely locked... nvidia drivers, fast, but not cool. And of course, no one will look into this, since the drivers are closed source, so the kernel devvers couldn't care less..
zero0w
What about Ctrl-Alt-1 to 6? If you can log into the console, then you can use # service dm stop # service dm restart to regain control of the system and GUI interface. That did the trick for me when ET runs into problem. aRTee
No go dude, nothing responded anymore. If I could get to the console, it would have been so easy to kill the process, no need to restart the dm service. If ctrl-alt-backspace doesn't work, ctrl-alt-F[1-6] are normally dead in the water...
