fasteddy
Hi all.... I want to set a box up with MDK 9.2 as an intranet webserver. I was hoping to use the wizards (?) to assist me as this is my first venture into the darkside! Am I missing something obvious here? I select all the "server" options during the (flawless) install. All the other buttons appear in MCC apart from the "server" one. I was expecting this to be visible, following the doc's. Any assistance or time spent thinking about my problem is much appreciated! DragonMage
You need to install the drakwizard rpm. You can do this by either typing this command as root urpmi drakwizard or use mandrake control center -> software -> software installation and search for drakwizard and install it. Note that you need to quit and restart mcc after installing the rpm so that the server wizard menu can appear. Personally, I think it's a big buggy and simplistic, but it does give you a base configuration file for whatever server you are planning to make. After that, then you can use webmin to fine tweak it a bit.
fasteddy
Cheers for that DragonMage! That's just perfect... I need my hand holding as much as possible at this stage. So I need the wizard. Thanks very much. Cheers Eddy
mtweidmann
They may have already have fixed this but when I first installed 9.2 if you clicked on any of the server wizard icons (eg Samba) nothing happened. I found out that i had to manually install the appropiate rpms before the wizards would launch. This didn't happen in 9.1 (I think). Just thought I'd mention it. fasteddy
Thanks for that! They, at least, launch the wizards.... if only I could get the one for proftpd to actually do something. I get a socket connection at other machines but no welcome message and no list of dirs. Is there an interface to add ftp users? Or is this done with user accounts? Is this done through webmin?... so many questions! Cheers again for your time. scoopy
Just making sure here: Is the service "proftpd" running? You can check to see it is started on bootup in MCC or in terminal as root: service proftpd status if not you can start with this: service proftpd start
DragonMage
To answer the ftp account, you are correct that it is done through user accounts. Just add new user accounts and you can connect via ftp using that user accounts and passwords. Of course, anonymous account is done via editing the config file. :)
fasteddy
Hi all I've done a re-instal and things are better this time around. All my services now start and are configurable as expected. The only issues I have now are with setting permissions... but that's another story! Thanks for your continued support and I'll no doubt be back over the holiday period as I'll hopefully get some time to tweak! Best regards and best wishes Eddy
