  1. ill leave mine for now i think lol i dont have all the 15Gb of music on my hard disc like some so i dont fancy re-ripping about 20 CDs if it goes pair shaped
  2. well sod your ego :D i didnt think to uninstall at first but was quickly sorted once i did it. suppose it serves me right for trying to install from source ;) oh and totally no offence taken
  3. Linux in all forms is and has vastly imporved and will continue to do so, like its been said IBM and Novell are now pushing linux harder than ever. The main "problem" is the normal household desktop user as there is often some manual configuration to do which puts people off. I think that another problem is the fact that most disrtos come with everything like OO which is strange in a way as you expect to have to install it after coming from M$ world.
  4. installed the 10rpms after i uninstalled the 10.1 rpms this is like having a winblows moment :P uninstall then install lol
  5. Thanks mate, ive just found out about the exporting now and that was going to be my next post :P gonna uninstall the 10.1 rpm then install the 10 as it says it conflicts

  8. great now my urpmi is broken :( i thought the urpmi on here was workin, serves me right for using german servers :P ill change them and try again unless someone knows different?
  9. not used FC3 but tbh there is still little difference in it IMO im also supprised that Ubuntu came that low down aswell, given the amount of support and users it has already. Oh btw the next issue aint that hot unless you want to do networking ;)
  10. I already have gaim installed using urmpi but want the new version so that i can use file transferes. So i did urpmi.update gaim and it gave the following message [root@localhost matt]# urpmi.update gaim trying to select nonexistent medium "gaim" the entry to update is missing (one of jpackage, plf, contrib, main) right so i though no worries do it the hard way :P got the source tarball from the site as there isnt a 10.1 rpm put it in my home space then went down the normal route but on the ./configure it said that GLib 2.0 is required so i got GLib from here and followed the instructions that it gives. ./configure make make install then passed ldconfig like it says (btw i installled it in my /home/matt space) then tried again to make the config file and it still wont work i then tried the 10.0 rpms and they all gave me a conflict message with the 10.1 install

  18. nope its all working fine, no need to initialise it everytime
  19. yea 60 had 10.1 MDK 61 has FD3 which im yet to install and play with as my test machine has win2k on it for uni programs :(
  20. aru no mate its fine ive rebooted a couple of times and its all working fine :D i guess that . /etc/profile.d/alias.sh solved the problem??
  21. thanks seams to be working, ill see if i reboot changes that :P
  22. sorry i missed your point, im using kde on RL5 not tried text mode and there is no .alias file in my home directory and ive got this in the alias.sh file right at the start, if this is what you mean? [[ -f ~/.alias ]] && [[ -z $LOAD_SYSTEM_ALIASES ]] && return 0 [[ -n $IGNORE_SYSTEM_ALIASES ]] && return 0 [ -e /etc/sysconfig/system ] && . /etc/sysconfig/system if [ -f ~/.dir_colors ]; then eval `dircolors --sh ~/.dir_colors` else eval `dircolors --sh /etc/DIR_COLORS` fi

  24. read the FAQ about this and in MDK10.1 /etc/profile.d/alias.sh exists so i though ok su then add my own but that didnt work :( so i made a user.sh in profile.d and only the firefox alias works??? Any ideas cause im really stuck, read about putting them in the .bash_profile will that work
