  1. The X69 is DANGEROUS if your board and drive doesnt' support it. I wiped half of my wife's drive with that once. Just do the c1 and d1. Also, if you get the kernel-source RPM from cooker, you can try recompiling that yourself, following that tutorial and it's safe enough, since you can revert back with a simple reboot.
  2. Just install the kernel-source RPM. Then recompile it yourself. I do NOT trust kernel RPMs, aside from the source RPMs (and the Mandrake default, of course).
  3. Well, considering that they've managed to break it 2 out of 3 times, I'd say that's a good enough reason to shift the focus to something else. Yeah, urpmi is great.
  4. I don't know... Just try it and find out. It looks nice to me, and yeah, it uses GL. I never played it multiplayer. And any multiplayer games I play are usually with the ex-Loki guys, using specific IP addresses, so I don't need any browsing features. But, there is Xqf or something like that, check at http://mdkextras.by-a.com/ Afrosheen uses it.

    ICQ and Gaim

Yeah, I think it's in the FAQ on the Gaim website... Just use the default. Not the ICQ plugin, which should be removed... I don't know why they haven't taken it out yet. And there are differences between the two.
  6. Makes me wish I had preordered... But then again, it *is* a free club membership, so it's not like it helps them any. Someday soon... 3 months of school left until I start making money!
  7. I'm gonna be shifting focus to gaming, slightly, for my website with the next major overhaul. I'll be putting lots of info up that is currently hidden, apparently. Many people *still* don't know that you can play Unreal in Linux... They think only UT and UT2K3 work.... Time to get the word out, I think.
  8. *shrugs* as I said, I'm neutral. I don't do it myself, and I still own about 90 out of 110 of my Windows games, but I don't play them. I'm trying to sell them. The vast majority of them are useless to me now. No matter what I or you say, people will still warez software. It's not gonna stop. And I have no doubt in my mind that the majorite of people use WineX for their warezed games anyhow. If a Linux user buys Windows games, he should have his head examined. IMHO. If companies go bankrupt, then it's due to lack of sales. If they want to get more sales, they release for Linux. It won't give them less sales, that's for sure. And there are people who would port for free. If I could, I would for sure. But that's enough of this crap. I've gotta focus on my site, and my new gaming section will contain my thoughts about games and all these issues. And more.
  9. Had the same problem. I created a link in ~/.kde/Autostart that executes "3ddeskd --gnome2 --acquire". (even though I use kde) Works great. Just need to find a way to do a keybinding for 3ddesk and I'm all set. One word: xbindkeys. Works great.

    Open Office hangs

I am not sure what the problem is with that, but the OpenOffice.org that comes with Mandrake 9.0 has other problems too. I'm gonna download the official version I think. Just to save all the hassles. BTW, I like your nick.
  11. I'm neutral on the Windows game piracy issue. I don't think it either hurts or helps the Linux gaming market. Meanwhile, buying Windows games sure as shit doesn't help.
  12. I used it a bit. I don't think it likes spaces in filenames of ROMs, but other than that it was cool.
  13. I disabled supermount because the time was REALLY annoying to me. supermount -i disable But you may not wanna do that.
  14. Good for you. I was simply stating that there WAS a distro that had X and it would obviously fit on a 75MB hard drive. No need to get all furious about it. Now, as others have suggested, go look for ZipSlack. Trim it down. Or just get LFS. Or if you have a CD drive, you can use a distro that uses that. You could just use LOAF, and then try installing it to a HD, and then add in the stuff you want. Or do a truly minimal install of Mandrake 9.0. It *might* be 75MB. I don't know for sure.
  15. I'm trying that BeOS Max thing. But I don't like booting from floppy disks... I'm gonna look at getting it into my bootloader, if that's possible. I used to love BeOS.
  16. If you didn't see my post here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=1325 then you should know that I now have a Spanish version of my website online. :) Tell your Spanish friends!

    Weird Screen Sizes

Are the games using hardware acceleration or software rendering?
  18. There is now a distro that is on two floppy disks AND includes the X Window System... Crazy.
  19. You may want to look at /usr/share/doc/NVIDIA_GLX-1.0/README and see if it has any info about it though. I *think* this is an NVidia driver problem and not an XFree problem.
  20. You'll probably have to crack the game to get around the copy protection. Sam Lantinga (of Loki and SDL fame) works for Blizzard now... It's a shame they won't let him port games to Linux. I've emailed them and him about games like D2 and WC3. You may wanna do the same, just be nice about it.
  21. That has been there for a long LONG time. That's actually how I found the old old forum originally. If you're talking about along the top of the page, that is. If not I don't know what you're talking about.

    Porting Games

Me? Yes... I got it from Palm: http://www.palmos.com/dev/tools/emulator/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/pose/ The ROMs are not available to just anyone though... If you want them, I can get them though.
  23. sshd is useful if you want to access your system from another system on a LAN or over the Internet. I often help people via SSH (if they have it installed) and request it. partmon is sorta useless as it is, but you don't get warnings about drive space using any programs that I am aware of... So I wrote a script that I run in cron every few minutes and pops up a dialog if I'm under a certain amount of space. The reason being that some desktops will crash, and in the case of dfm, your icons will go nuts, if you have no free space left.
  24. I have an RPM for it at http://mdkextras.by-a.com/ It doesn't require extra stuff (that I'm aware of) like Texstar's does. You can just rebuild the SRPM yourself if they don't work.
  25. I got the boot time on one computer down from 65 seconds to 25 seconds, including the video BIOS and system POST routines. If I time it from the grub loader to login, it takes less than 12 seconds.
