I've become very hardcore about this - if they won't port to my OS then they can shove their game. I have a pile of old windoze games lying at home and if I really feel like playing them I will set up dual-booting again (wow! imagine playing the game on the platform it was intended for!) but I would not jeopardise the future of Linux gaming by using WineX. It is funny to see Warcraft 3 running in a window every now and then though...

I'm presuming this will be standardly released with 9.1? Anyone know? I still have a Radeon Mobility problem that I have been wrestling with for 5 months now! Hoping the latest XFree will iron it out.

Ok Paul, after seeing your screenshots I now have more questions :D Ok, firstly: How the heck did you get aterm to look like that? And then what is that thingy on the bottom left of your screen with the date and volume and stuffies? I've been looking for an app. like that for ages... gkrellm is a bit to busy and doesn't have volume. And finally, how did you get icons on your desktop? I tried messing around with nautilus to get it draw my desktop under flux with no luck... Thanks for the help with the background... I was reading somewhere that it is better to use bsetbg than Esetroot... something to do with transparency? I dunno....

I've just fallen in love with fluxbox. Just wondering: how do I change the theme? I downloaded some from the sourceforge page. Themes are obviously different from styles, which manipulate solid colors and gradients while a Theme will have a style file and a background image... am I right? Anyway, so I get styles but can't seem to get themes to work. I tried plonking one in ~./fluxbox/styles in the universal share directory which didn't work too well. I also want to know how to change the background without losing transparency. Thanks!

Take tyme's advice. There are so many good file sharing programs for Linux that I wouldn't dream of trying to get Kazaa working. Try out limewire, it's great (requires Java though).

Just so we know what we're working with: What software are you trying to sync with? I recommend to start by using jpilot. What window manager are you running? Do you have a USB or serial-port cradle? Setting up a palm with linux is usually a walk in the park.

If you just want them to access it, you could simply export your CDR's mount point as a Samba share.

I'm going to order this game. The screen shots remind me of a game I have on my Playstation called Kula World.

A friend of mine just bought a brand new, shiny Mac. Powerbook. He currently dual boots with Mac. OS 9 (I think) and Mac. OS X. I convinced him to try out Mandrake on the machine (I want to see those resources pumped!). Thing is, I know sweet **** all about Macs. What should I look out for? Can I pop in a CD and install like I would normally? Will the dual booting rock sweetly?

I had the exact same card. I remember having problems with downloaded driver solutions and it is also important not to complicate matter by installing Mesa (not necessary). What I did was run an expert install (or update if you don't want to re-install) of MDK 9 and then I simply selected XFree with Direct Rendering. I know that sounds stoopid, I guess that I was just expecting it to be harder then it was. Anyway, after that setup, my card ran like a dream without probs. I miss 3dFX, they made good shit. Oh - and don't push your res too high in games, I had problems with UT freezing when I did that (even though the game was running fine). Before fixing something that might not be broken, drop your res and see if the problem persists.

Which window manager are you running? Some of them will have a default browser that Evolution will send to. Other's won't and you might have to set it up in Evolution itself.

I'm not sure that I understand your question - could you elaborate please? If the cd contains Mandrake.... then it's authentic. Right?

My Oggs have always sounded very rich, especially on the bass which mp3 encoders seem to wangle out. I would guess that whatever you are using as output in XMMS is screwed. Maybe try re-installing the OggVorbis encoder as well? But then, my ears are ****ed from working at the very same radio station....

You can try the following (my memory is a bit rusty, but it should be right): Either a Realtek adaptor or a NEC 2000 These are fairly generic, once again, hope I remember correctly. By the way: If it asks what to try, it probably can't detect your card. You will probably have to try to find a driver or buy another card (make sure it is Linux compatible first).

What you are essentially aiming to do is configure your linux box as a Samba Server. Samba enables communications between a Microsnot machine and a Linux box. The best place to start is with a program called Webmin. You can install it from your Mandrake cds. Once you have Webmin installed, open up Mozilla and enter the following URL: https://localhost:10000 Webmin will prompt you to login and after that you will find a section for Samba where you can set everything up. Make sure that you make the domain name in the Samba settings the same as that of your Windoze machine. Also, make sure your IPs match by the first three values, i.e. 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2 Once that is done, open up a terminal and ping your windows machine by it's IP. If you receive a ping reply, do the following: # cd /etc/ # vim hosts (or whatever editor you use). Now add your windows machine to the list of hosts. Samba -should- now be ok with your setup. Install a program called gnomba (also on the cds) and see if it picks up your network. Now, it is all up to you as to what you want to do with your network, print, share internet, etc. Post back here if you need help with those. Hope this helps!

Our money is called Rand.... and Microsoft will be missing it. I am so proud... I think developing countries are starting to realise that serious cost cutting can be done by embracing Open Source. South Africa is the most prominent country in Africa and usually leads the way economically, socially and technologically, so hopefully this lead to other african countries following suit. This can not really be answered in one little post. Have you compiled a kernel before and are you just looking for what to look out for? Or do you need to know how to compile from scratch? Either way, you have some reading to do: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWT...ernel-HOWTO.pdf <- download that file and READ CAREFULLY. The instructions are a bit long-way-round, but then you can be sure your method is solid. Kernel compiling is a mission, but very safe and once you know what you are doing will benefit you a hell of a lot. Don't get discouraged though, it will probably take a few compiles before you getting a working kernel. Also, download the latest pristine kernel stock from http://www.kernel.org Using pure source will cut out a lot of potential problems. Good Luck!

Same here. This is the first time I have seen KDE looking nearly as good as my Gnome desktop.

It's worse then sad. I'm dissapointed. Oh well, my computer probably wouldn't be able to run it anyway.
