  1. I have grkellm installed with the "invisible" theme for disk/net/mem/hd activity... One thing that I would like to have is the weather forecast. I'm not sure how to do that, I don't think grekllm has a plugin for it, gDesklet does but I wasn't able to get gDesklet working: I see the "puzzle pieces" icon in my task bar, but nothing happens if I click on it. I couldn't find a superkaramba RPM either so I didn't try it.
  2. yes, but you still need to know what path to use for the hdlist, which is what I wasn't sure of in the first place.
  3. the question remains, why does it complain when you try to launch another instance from the icon?
  4. works for me most of the time, but then once in a while I can't burn a CD until I do a full reboot.
  5. I have a similar problem note that if I open a new window from firefox itself, (by right clicking on a link for example) it works fine. I downloaded the install script from the firefox website, didn't installit through urpmi.
  6. Cool, sounds like I might try Kopete first.
  7. I guess rather than mess with it manually I removed it (urpmi.removemedia update_source) then used easyurpmi to add a different update source (interestingly enough the original one is not in easyurpmi). Definitely a lot slower (maybe the update server is slower too? what'sa fast update mirror in the US?)
  8. The first time I ran mandrake updates from the control panel it asked me to pick and update mirro, and that was that. Today I read in the FAQ section of this forum that using hdist is better than synthesis.hdlist even though it's slower, so I checked my /etc/urpmi/urmpi.cfg file and sure enough the update mirror uses synthesis: update_source ftp://mandrake.mirrors.pair.com/Mandrakel...dates/10.0/RPMS { hdlist: hdlist.update_source.cz with_hdlist: ../base/synthesis.hdlist.cz list: list.update_source key-ids: 22458a98 update synthesis } so how do I change it to use the full hdlist? do I manually edit the file to be: update_source ftp://mandrake.mirrors.pair.com/Mandrakel...dates/10.0/RPMS { hdlist: hdlist.update_source.cz with_hdlist: ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist.cz[ list: list.update_source key-ids: 22458a98 update } Aow do I know the relative path is correct? I modeled it after the contrib entry. Also I removed "synthesis" but what does "update" mean?
  9. Mine has the same message (mdk 10.0 Powerpack) so I don;t think it means you havea bad version.
  10. I believe your problem is different: you're using a mirror for PLF that isn't working. Try and add a different one (I was not able to get the mandrakeusers.org mirror working properly either). I think my problem is one of "phantom" media. I can;t find where urpmi decides to check for "Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3)", for example that entry doesn't exist in /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg I do have a similar entry, which is my current update source, so I'm gussing that the one above (which uses cdrom3 instead of disk3) is a leftover from a previous attempt at setting the update, or a leftover from the upgrade install. Installation\ CD\ 3\ (x86)\ (disk3) file://home/public/Mandrake100Install/Mandrake/RPMS3 { hdlist: hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk3).cz with_hdlist: ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist3.cz key-ids: 70771ff3 }
  11. I "upgraded" my 10.0 install to force a hardware upate because I had trouble with USB after swapping the motherboard. It took care of my problem but now it looks like something about urpmi is not quite right. I changed the urmp sources from the default install setting of usingthe install CDs by pointing them to a directory wheer the CDs have been copied (something like /.../install10_0/Mandrake/RPM to /.../install10_0/Mandrake/RPMS7) whenever I try to use urpm I get the following messages: # urpmi --test licq unable to take medium "Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3)" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3)] exists unable to take medium "Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom4)" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom4)] exists unable to take medium "Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (cdrom5)" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (cdrom5)] exists unable to take medium "Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom6)" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom6)] exists unable to take medium "Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom7)" into account as no list file [/var/lib/urpmi/list.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom7)] exists it seems that everything works fine after that and the install would work (if I didn't use --test) what do the messges mean (or waht does it mean that there is no /var/lib/urpmi/list.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3) file exists? How do I fix this mess? The contents of /var/lib/urpmi are as follows # ls /var/lib/urpmi compssUsers.flat descriptions.update_source hdlist.contrib.cz hdlist.Installation CD 1 (x86) (disk1).cz hdlist.Installation CD 2 (x86) (disk2).cz hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3).cz hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom4).cz hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk3).cz hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk4).cz hdlist.plf.cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (cdrom5).cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (disk5).cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom6).cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom7).cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk6).cz hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk7).cz list.plf list.update_source MD5SUM names.contrib names.Installation CD 1 (x86) (disk1) names.Installation CD 2 (x86) (disk2) names.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3) names.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom4) names.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk3) names.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk4) names.plf names.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (cdrom5) names.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (disk5) names.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom6) names.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom7) names.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk6) names.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk7) names.update_source synthesis.hdlist.contrib.cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 1 (x86) (disk1).cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 2 (x86) (disk2).cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom3).cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (cdrom4).cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk3).cz synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 3 (x86) (disk4).cz synthesis.hdlist.plf.cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (cdrom5).cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 4 (x86) (disk5).cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom6).cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (cdrom7).cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk6).cz synthesis.hdlist.Supplementary Applications CD 5 (x86) (disk7).cz synthesis.hdlist.update_source.cz feel free to ask for moreinfo, I'm not even sure what the right question to ask is. I went through the process of changing the uprm media several times and I'm guessing this is a "leftover" entry but I'm not sure how to get rid of it. deleting all the entries with the mandrake control panel and re-enteringthem didn't do the trick.
  12. anyone using changing wallpaper? I'm a gamer and have several dozen wallpapers related to games I play or have played. I just set the desktop to cycle wallpapers every 20 minutes. It keeps things interesting. This may be an issue if you play with transparent background for aplets though, since the background colors vary widely, it may be had to sind a color for the aplet display that stands out.
  13. I want to use both ICQ and IRC on my mdk 10.0 machine. What are the best/most comppatible/not resource hogs clients? I'd favor an "all-in-one" client but don't mind installing separate ones. I use KDE if it matters.
  14. I guess, still being a newbie, I didn't know about gDesklets and only new about greklm. I have just started to look through the "show your desktop" thread and had been wondering what some people had been using to show all kind of info on their desktop using transparencies. So, is it true than gDesklet doesn't support transparencies under KDE? (I'm a a KDE user). Soulse, I'd love to hear you support your statement too.
  15. yupp.... lala winky winky!... :woot_jump: <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That would explain why my little girl suddenly wants to play with my computer :D Thanks Darkelve, I pulled my avatar off of a wallpaper I found on DA a few months ago. Hadn't checked recently. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> it's "Tinky Winky" :P
  16. is the device working? do you have a /dev/usb/hid? urpmi usbview then run usbview, is the device in the list?
  17. Looks like I may have solved the problem: the printer was autodetected bu the URI was set to "usb://dev/usblp0": ther must be a bug in printerdrake because it's both missinga slash and the printer number is wrong. I manually changed it to usb://dev/usb/lp1 and everything seems to work fine locally. I now just need to make sure I share it properly through samba and I should be in business. edit: used wedbmin to set up the printer share and I'm good!
  18. I think there is an "advanced" chekbox that then show a bunch of button. You also need to make sure that you r card is properly installed and recognized as a 3D card
  19. I used to have my Samsung ML-1710 laser printer hanging off a Windows XP machine, but since my linux machine is on 27/4, I would rather have it act as a "printer server" (the printer is USB only). Mandrake sees the printer (usbview lists it properly) and when I go in the Mandrake Control Panel -> hardware -> printer ("printerdrake") the printer is properly autodetected as the right model, it knows about the driver for this model and properly selects it by default, I see options that make sense for that printer (DPI, toner save mode,....) but when I try to print a test page from the wizard nothing happens. I can see the print job sitting in the queue (start menu -> monitor ->printer jobs) but it never prints and never gets deleted from the queue. I also tried to print from openOffice and got the same behavior. I'm not sure where to look next. /etc/cups/ppd shows a ppd file with the right printer name. I grepped for cups in syslog and the last entries show the sending of the test page but I don't see anything that looks like an error. Any ideas? this is driving me nuts!
  20. This is excellent advice, after swapping out my motherbaord I had "leftover" stuff from the previous motherboard hanging arounf, in fact my USB settings were wrong. Doing the update takes 2 minutes, doesn't mess your personal settings but forces a proper re-install of the new hardware.
  21. couldn't figure out how to remove a source from the command line, so I used the GUI. One of the French mirrors seemed fast enough.
  22. this seems legit, I found several references to it (although none of the articles are online right now). It seems to screw up PCI latency timing, whic in tun can have weird side effect for video and sound playback (like crackling). Sounds like you can reboot the computer to make the problem go away if there is an issue?
  23. what does updating the urpm database do? does it update the list of what's installed or the list of what's available? edit: from what I gather from the man page it simply updates the list of what's available from each source. edit: what's a good PLF repository to use? I believe I originally set mine up through easyurpmi. Damn!, nothing in the US. Au moins la France n'est pas en reste! I guess I'll go for urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.proxad.net/pub/Distributions_Li...f/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz edit: I assume I should remove my previous PLF source. Can I remove it from the command line? it doesn't appear to be what --exclude does.
  24. yikes! the site is in Dutch :P What exactly is MandrakeClub.nl (obviously not the same Mandrake Club as the "official" paid-membership one). Cn you give more details about one might expect to find there? Do you simply package "Stuff" for Mandrake 10 and post it there? For example I saw that there is a firefox9.3 rpm. Sorry if it's obvious to everyone else...
