  1. I've never used that gui network interface. I would suggest changing the 'Mode: 802.11g only' to 'Mode: 802.11b/g', then try again. If you still have a problem, try turning off the WEP and testing it that way. After another look at your pics, it clearly shows that you already have a connection now. Have you tried to open a browser and see if you have internet access, before trying to set up a new connection?
  2. I'll have to add to this, that when your system freezes the next time; open the case and see if all the fans are running, power supply fan, cpu fan, gpu fan, case fan, etc.? Also check to see if the hard drive light is on, like it's trying to be accessed? I've recently replaced a mother board with a faulty controller that showed this symptom.
  3. You can print a monthly calender with Korganizer.
  4. Are you saying that the original files you copied, are the same size as the files now in /lib/firmware/ ? If they are the same size, the errors 'shouldn't' be a problem? The errors you are getting have already been reported in both Bug-coreutils, and Mandriva Bugzilla. I haven't had these errors, but I'm still using 2007. So are the files the same size? Is your router broadcasting an SSID? What, if any encryption are you using?

You haven't wasted my time, I'm just sorry to see you give up on this. If you ever decide to try it again, we're here to try to help you.

I still think that the duck needs a little color... Hopefully done with better airbrush work than mine. :)
  7. Perhaps you should start with reading these: Software installation Installing and removing software Making more applications available :)

Kim Possible says: “Go with the yeahnah_nico, but give the duck color, and make the backsplash black.” Greg however, doesn't have a clue?
  9. In order for that to work properly, you will have to compile the lib with the same older version of GCC as the binary was compiled with that you are trying to use. This is why I extracted the lib from an older rpm.
  10. I was just playing with this and noticed some errors in the terminal about netscape. To fix this and use the 'help' built into the program, go to Help > How to use help > change the help viewer to: firefox, or whatever you use. :)
  11. OK, I had some extra time this morning so I now have this working for you. First you must remove the symlink you made in /usr/lib. You must use the 'Linux (x86) w/ Motif lib' version, and you will need the libstdc++.so.2.8.1.1 from this rpm. Create a temp directory and d/l the rpm to it. Then in a terminal cd to the temp directory. Then do rpm2cpio compat-libstdc++-3.1-1.i386.rpm |cpio -ivd then cd usr/lib then as root do cp libstdc++.so.2.8.1.1 /usr/lib/ then ln -s libstdc++.so.2.8.1.1 libstdc++.so.2.8 exit to your user name, and start the program as normal.
  12. Your CD-drive may not be able to read the media you are using? Go to hp.com and see if there's a firmware update for your CD-Drive. Alternately (or if there's no firmware update), you could try a different CD media.

I have no idea what console you're using? Can you use the 'Gnome Terminal', it has copy and paste? Yes, that's the problem. Instead of kate use gedit, do gksu gedit A quick google shows that you 'should' be able to press 'Alt Gr' and '1' at the same time to make a |. I do not have a Spanish keyboard to check that. :)
  14. Yes, that is correct. Here's a quick dirty hack that may work? I've used it for 'other' things successfully. In a terminal do cd /usr/lib && ls |grep libstdc now symlink the oldest version on your system. Mine was libstdc++.so.5.0.7 (so if you have libstdc++.so.5.0.7, use it, or replace it in the next command with the oldest version you have), so do su enter password, then do ln -s libstdc++.so.5.0.7 libstdc++.so.2.8 now you have a libstdc++.so.2.8 symlinked to an existing lib in your system.
  15. Just d/l the WAD file, here: doomworld.com
  16. I've attached a tarball to a pm for you to use. Place it in your /home/user-name/ directory. Open a terminal, and do tar -xzvf acx111_1.2.1.34.tar.gz then cd acx111_1.2.1.34 then su enter your password, then cp tiacx111 tiacx111c16 tiacx111c17 tiacx111r16 tiacx111r17 /lib/firmware/ then shutdown -r now after your system reboots, use your 'configure network' gui again. If your network connection is ok, you can remove the acx111_1.2.1.34 directory from your /home/user-name/ directory. Let us know if this works out ok for you?

Are you using KDE, or Gnome? OK, copy and paste is just like windows. If you're using KDE, and Kwrite, it would be: Edit > Select all > copy > paste to forum. The | 'pipe' is above the \ on the same key. Copy your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to a safe place in your /home directory (for a backup)... before you continue. In a terminal do kdesu kate enter password. Open /etc/X11/xorg.conf. In the Section "Device" change the driver line to Driver "fglrx" and in the Section "Screen" change the depth to DefaultColorDepth 24 log out, and start a new session. Please post anything that you do not understand before doing this?
  18. FBReader supports chm format. You can find an ipk for your Z in the downloads section of fbreader.org. You will also need the expat ipk, libenca ipk, and the libbz2 ipk, all of which are in the fbreader.org downloads section.
  19. I'm sorry, but if you want to do this 'graphically'... why not just go to > Configure your computer? :)
  20. I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but not having an internet connection this was one of those details. :) I thought you had a wired connection? Sorry! I'm not really (legally) allowed to attach it to a public post, but if you are having problems... would you like me to pm you a tarball of the firmware?
  21. When you get to this point, please follow the instructions and start over. Open a terminal, and do mkdir temp then cd temp then wget -r -np http://195.66.192.167/linux/acx_patches/fw/acx111_1.2.1.34/ then cd 195.66.192.167/linux/acx_patches/fw/acx111_1.2.1.34/ then su enter your password, then cp tiacx111 tiacx111c16 tiacx111c17 tiacx111r16 tiacx111r17 /lib/firmware/ then shutdown -r now after your system reboots, use your 'configure network' gui again.
  22. There have been three BIOS updates for your system. You may want to try the 1.10 Rev. A at www2.hp.com From what you have said, this is your BIOS... but please check to be sure!

A bit late, but welcome to the MUB. Before you purchase a new card, please check some things for us? Have you used the MCC > Hardware > Configure your monitor, and choose the proper monitor? Have you used the MCC > Hardware > Change the screen resolution, and choose the proper resolution and color depth? Try 1024 x 768 at 24. Please post the output of cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf |grep fglrx if the output shows that your driver is “fglrx”, then: Please post the output of fglrxinfo and run fgl_glxgears for at least 3 lines of output.
  24. Would this be using Gnome, KDE, Xfce, or what? Anyway, is there a save icon on the toolbar, or file > save?
