  1. Have you tried using the proprietary fglrx driver from the public non-free repo? Please see the release notes: ATI_graphics_cards
  2. What version of Mandriva are you using? Please open a terminal and post the output of cat /etc/release It appears that you have mixed versions of repos?
  3. I would suggest using the gui drakconnect that you had started with, instead of trying to use slack instructions. If “ndiswrapper -l†doesn't show any device, it's not working. You must find another bcmwl5 driver to try to use. There are many available on the net to d/l and try. Alternatively, you could use Broadcom's IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n hybrid Linux® device driver. It's here: broadcom.com/support It will require a bit of work on your part to use, but the instructions are there.
  4. OK, I've read that has happened to some users during install. The kernel-desktop flavor now supports up to 4GB of RAM. Please see the Errata: High_memory_support I would still suggest trying what I've posted above.
  5. There's a possibility that the kernel has already loaded a module that may not be working properly. We need a bit more info about your system. Please open a terminal and post the output (as user) of cat /etc/release and uname -a and (as root) lsmod | grep -i b43 Welcome aboard! :)
  6. First of all, why are you using a server kernel? Do you have a specific need or reason for using it? I would suggest that you add all the official Mandriva repos including non-free to your sources, then install the desktop kernel. Then reboot into the new desktop kernel and open mcc aka 'configure your computer'. Go to hardware > set up the graphical server. Select your video card from the list, when it asked you if you want to use proprietary drivers, answer 'yes'. It will install everything you need and set it up for you.
  7. I assume from that pic that you're using 2008.1. If that is true, then you need to update your software sources. The package you need is libgraphviz4 and it's in the /media/main/release repo. Welcome aboard! :)
  8. I'll start with my Mandriva 2009.0 with KDE 3.5.10
  9. If the Rescan doesn't work for you: I've no idea what version of KDE you're using, but take a look in your ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok directory for the collection.db. If it's in there, delete it. Open Amarok and build a new collection.db.
  10. yossarian, I'd suggest that you start with installing the task-gnome-minimal and the gdm packages with your gui package manager or urpmi. This should install most of what you lost. If you still have problems, try reinstalling the complete task-gnome package.
  11. You don't have an i-goofed.txt file?
  12. Wow, that sounds like you've removed some of Gnome. Please attach the i-goofed.txt file in your ~/home directory created by rpm -qa | grep -i gnome > ~/i-goofed.txt to a post here. :)
  13. There are over 28 threads about this over at the forum.mandriva, some of which users completely removed their DE. Many have had to do a complete reinstall to correct the damage done. There are also a couple of related bug reports at bugzilla.
  14. I've never had this either until the 2009.0 - KDE 3.5.10 release, but it appears to be here now.
  15. I'd suggest not using “urpme --auto-orphans†with this 2009.0 release. There have been many problems caused by it, some very severe.
  16. That will happen when you use the 'File management' profile. Try switching to the 'Navegação (navigation) Web Mandriva' profile.
  17. Just add them to the /etc/urpmi/skip.list with a text editor.
  18. You don't have to remove it, just disable it. Right-click on the taskbar (kicker) icon > configure kerry > indexing > uncheck the 'start beagle indexing service automatically', 'index data while on battery power', 'index my home folder' boxes, click on apply and ok. Again right-click on the taskbar (kicker) icon > quit > do not start automatically when you login.

In your gui software manager in the upper left there are two drop down boxes, change them both to 'all'. Then look again. :)
  20. Actually the nvidia stuff can be found in the /official/2009.0/media/non-free repos now. :)

    Video codecs

They're from the Mandriva repos, you need the ones from the PLF that are compiled with more audio/video support options.
  22. That's a very old version of Firefox, it would help to upgrade to a newer version. Anyway, open your application menu > tools > click on konsole. Then type in firefox and hit enter, then go to youtube and try to watch a vid. Close firefox, and please post any errors in the konsole here for us to see. Edit: I didn't see Kieth's post. :)
  23. Open your /opt/kde3/share/apps/konqueror/konqueror.rc file with a text editor and check that this section: <Menu name="tools"><text>&Tools</text> <Action name="open_terminal"/> <Action name="findfile"/> has that line.

neddie, are you using the mplayer and vlc packages from the PLF repos?
