  1. Just as a further note to add, make sure you read the FAQs, READMEs, and CHANGELOGs. Generally they will tell you what changes have been implemented in the code, and what troubleshooting you can beform to get the driver work if you have problems after the installation.
  2. I am having the same problems as phunni, I can't get the initial hotsync established. I am wondering if it is the settings I chose in my BIOS for serial 1, does anyone know what the proper address and IRQ should be ?
  3. Not exactly clear on the question, but linux should be able to handle any and as much memory as you can cram into your motherboard, and as much swap as you care to create. Linux/Unix is much better at managing memory than Windows is.
  4. My Kodak DX 4900 Easyshare (Docking Station and all) USB works great under Man 9.1 with GTKam to retrieve the pictures. I will be adding a TUT to my website sortly. Just been a little busy lately@work. I jalso just installed a Logitech Quickcam Express which runs well using GnomeMeeting.
  5. Initially I had probs with getting Postal 2 running, but it turned out to be an incomplete installation, which I had to fix manually. C&C:Generals is suppose to work too now, but I am not much of an RPG Gamer. So I have not tested this one yet. On the other had some great news, HL/Op4 works now with out having to load another MOD first. I just setup the shortcut in Point2Play, and it works without any issues. SoF2, same thing.
  6. Happy Birthday JaseP, so far I have been pretty impressed with it. Big change even from the prerelease. I can now get Ghost Recon installed and running, but still having problems getting patches and the other MODS/Addons installed. HL/Op4 installed without a hitch this time, and runs great, after copying over the windows "rundll32.exe" to the /home/user/TransGamingDrive/windows/system32 directory.
  7. Anyone know what distros of Linux are available for PalmVx ? And where I can get information on them ? Cheers
  8. WineX 3.0 is here Issued on Thursday April 17, 2003 Overview TransGaming is pleased to announce the release of WineX 3.0, dubbed "Milliway", giving our users access to more Windows games in Linux, with greater ease. TransGamers can now download the WineX in RPM, Debian and TGZ formats here. As a brand new alternative, the Point2Play graphical user interface is capable of downloading, and installing, both new and old versions of WineX. RPM, Debian and TGZ packages for Point2Play can also be found in the downloads section. WineX 3.0 is the culmination of substantial effort over the past months to bring you many of the underlying technologies required for the next generation of exciting new games, voted for by our subscribers. We are pleased to announce that our users will be able to enjoy playing BF1942, SimCity 4, EverQuest and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault among the new titles WineX 3.0 supports. Additionally, this release heralds the arrival of WineX's new graphical interface, Point2Play; an exciting new way to simplify your Linux game playing experience. Under the hood the WineX 3.0 release sports enhanced graphics capabilities with implementations of Vertex Shaders and Cube Maps, improved copy protection support, significantly extended installer functionality and a number of game speedups. Enjoy! New Features * Point2Play graphical frontend is now available to help TransGamers manage multiple WineX versions, store configuration options and stop using arcane command line options and syntax. * Hardware accelerated Vertex Shaders have been implemented. These are only supported on OpenGL drivers which implement the NV_vertex_program extension. The ARB extension will be supported in future releases. * Copy protection support for newer, and several older, SafeDisc versions. Additionally SecuRom copy protection speed has been enhanced for some hardware configurations. * Many installer-related issues have been resolved; starting installs with autorun.exe should now work in many cases, multi-disc installs should now have fewer issues with disc changing, and large installers are now supported. Additionally, significant effort has gone into making InstallShield 6 graphics update correctly and InstallShield 7 work. * Render to Texture and Cube Mapping support implemented for cool texturing effects. * The core threading model has moved to pthreads to decouple WineX from the continuing changes to certain core system libraries. * Better handling of X11 Window Manager idiosyncrasies - WineX 3.0 does a much better job of going into 'full-screen' mode. * Many texturing robustness fixes. * A combination of optimizations should provide faster game play for some games. * A new ALSA sound driver backend has been provided although it is untested at this point. * Force feedback joysticks are now supported, but untested, on newer versions of the Linux kernel (2.5 series at this time or get the patch yourself at http://user.it.uu.se/~johannd/projects/ff/). Thanks to David Engle who kindly contributed this functionality. Unfortunately, TransGaming has not had enough time to do extensive testing on this new feature. The detailed notes for the WineX 3.0 release are available @Transgaming.com The documentation for Point2Play is available @Transgaming.com
  9. Download the latest patch, not all of them, then run it with the following option; run sh ./tribes2.run --keep cancel the update cd to tribes2-patchdir/ vi update.sh delete or comment out this, usually around line 60+ Code: # Verify that the loki_patch version is okay #if loki_patch --verify patch.dat; then # : #else # exit 1 #fi run ./update.sh Most of my games updated and patched properly, but Tribes2 and UT2003 were not one of them. I had to do the above.
  10. Actually I have an idea for Strike Force for UT, there was an installer made for 1.60, which I can use to create an installer for 1.8x or what ever version they are currently at. I can just change the installation paths to reflect the current mod settings and paths.
  11. This is the first time I have used this E-Mail Client. So far so good, but I am getting funny block characters down in the preview window at the bottom right of the email client, vice actual text that is in the email ??? They look like this; Well if I cut and paste, it turns back into normal text, so this one will be hard to get a visual of. If I reply to the email, it converst to normal text as well. The squares are 3 colors, blue, black and green ?? Anyone know why I am getting this and how to get rid of it ? Thanks.
  12. Depends on what version of Apache you are running, if you are running 1.3.xx, then it goes in the httpd.conf file, if you are running Apache 2.0.xx then it goes in the httpd2.conf file instead.
  13. hehehehehehe yeah that is so true...:)
  14. Does anyone know if there is a NG or Dist List@Icculus for getting help with creating game installers for Linux ?
  15. Just out of curiousity, with Mandrake 9/9.1 has either of you ran the following ? "#usr/sbin/sensors-detect" command ? This does everything for you and you don't have to edit any scripts manually. I used this for the last two installs vice manually setting up scripts like was given in the TUTs. You may already know this but I just thought I would provide some input.
  16. Thanks for the info aru, I am not to concerned about it anymore, I did a fresh install with Man9.1, and changed all of the filesystems back to Journalized vice XFS. Cheers..
  17. Tried everything, but it kept saying that it was not a supported filesystem, and then just crapped out the install. I was using a boot floppy.
  18. Again hehehehehehehehehe that another funny one :)
  19. yes its a better thought when it comes to gaming. i was merely thinking that if Relic2K has the money to spare on WineX, then he might consider channeling the financial support to the wine project. wine is still useful for running some exotic windows apps that has no probability of being ported and have no native counterpart. :) ciao! hehehehehehehehehe
  20. All you have to do is cp the installer off CD 3, then put the first CD in; export SETUP_CDROM=/mnt/cdrom Then just run the installer off of your Harddrive...as it prompts you to insert the next CD, open another terminal window, su to root, run the following #umount /mnt/cdrom #eject cdrom Put in next CD #mount /mnt/cdrom Run the export command again, just to make sure it knows where the installation CD is, and just keep repeating this for each CD until it completes.
  21. I do through the purchasing of the Linux games. Hell I have eveything that has been released up until now :) I am not going to spend money on WineX anymore is all I am saying.
  22. I don't think they've started yet. They took down the webpage too. I guess they weren't such good coders after all. hehehehehehehehe
  23. I still doubt I will continue to support it, I have nothing against them. Just turned out to be a waste of money for the subscription. In a year they only released two major releases. And even both of those had significant flaws. WineHQ has done some great work lately. I think I may go with them over this next year. I will still keep some of my how to's on my website.
  24. Downloaded the Images from ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/Mandrake-iso/ Burned them and then did a completed fresh install, manually adding every package. I also switched this time from XFS to Journalized FS. So I could use RSYNC this time, and be able to read the images on the partitions. Installed Video drivers, hardened the OS.
