  1. please note that this is not a Mandrake sponsored board, and (as far as i am aware) no Mandrake employees come around here to read the posts. if you needed to find the bugzilla forum, you should have posted a question in either offtopic or everything linux asking where it might be located at. just a suggestion for consideration in future matters :-)
  2. the dvd had mandrake 9.0 (powerpack, i think) on it.
  3. The Chronicles of Narnia-C.S. Lewis great books.
  4. doesn't sound possible, i don't think. because for a window to perform an action, it first needs the focus. placing this in one click just doesn't seem like a possibility, but i could be wrong. although it may be something that needs to be put in the actual code for waimea...?
  5. check in mandrake control center, boot options, make sure you don't have auto-login enabled. you shouldn't run any GUI as root, if you want to do work as root open a terminal and su to root. then do whatever it is you need to do from within that terminal.
  6. fonts have been a problem w/linux for a while. check out this post: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=2126 it contains a lot of stuff about software for linux, but there is a link for an RPM which will get you the core microsoft fonts. personally, i get all the fontconfig, freetype2, and Xft packages from this link: http://ftp.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distribut...e/RPMS.texstar/ and install them. for the freetype2 ones you have to do an update (-U option on the command line). add to that the ms fonts i mentioned earlier and i rarely have any ugly fonts.
  7. well, exactly what do you mean "the font problem"? a kernel update won't help your fonts. if you look around, do a search or example (try "font problems", "bad fonts", and the like) you should find a good bit of info as fonts have quite a few topics. i have a post in the "Everything Linux" forum concerning the Xft and Fontconfig files that were missing from texstar, they make fonts appear a lot nicer.
  8. here's a screenshot of gnome fully done in the galaxy theme (which is complete in gnome): you can also see the new look of the control center. i like the direction Mandrake is heading with it's look and feel, more professional in a manner. especially the install.
  9. one more mirror you can get it from: ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distr...drake-iso/i586/ i use that one since it's on my school network (Penn State Univ.) and doesn't count towards my "bandwidth usage" (which is actually a limit on how much we can download, not an actual limit on our bandwidth).
  10. when you type the patch command are in the directory that contains the fluxbox sources?
  11. you'd need to compile fluxbox from source, after applying the remember patch. go to fluxbox.sourceforge.net, then to the download page. the remember patch is there, with instructions on how to patch it. but you have to compile it from source (unless there as an MDK rpm out there w/the remember patch already added, i haven't seen one).

    Mozilla

open a terminal, do: ps -fu username | grep mozilla to check for any rogue mozilla processes running. then kill them with: kill pid where pid is the number in the second column in from the left (first column would be your user name).

    Mozilla

open up a terminal and run mozilla from within it, see if any errors are put out to the terminal. If so, post them here.
  14. well, i'm in the middle of building a completely gentoo system, but i had issues w/my SiS900 on-board NIC. so i stuck in the 3com card i had laying around, but at my school you have to register your MAC address to get internet access, so i'm currnetly waiting for them to change the address i have registered. 2 business days, they say. and with all this snow we just got (in PA), it might take a bit longer :-(
  15. i think i got it installed, but i didn't configure my boot loader from that side because I didn't remember the info for booting mandrake, but now I can't seem to get it working :-/
  16. i had no issue with the ECS K7S5A i bought, but that might just be luck. it's running w/768MB of DDR 2100 right now.
  17. you should be able to change the bootloader from mandrake control center.......let me check..... yup, open up MCC, go to boot, boot config, then press the configure button, and in the drop down list grub is (atleast on my system) listed.
  18. I'd think a decently simple way would be to write a quick little script, and either stick it on the desktop or put it somewhere else and then stick a link to it on the desktop. i couldn't figure out a way to make it work right just now, but maybe aru can jump in and do some of his famous bash scripting? (edit:no, i didn't notice that aru had already posted :-/)
  19. whatever you decide, backup data before you switch out the motherboards :) that's my only suggestion. i would re-install, just to be on the safe side. but that's just me
  20. I was considering putting up a mostly linux webpage at my address (tymecc.net), and am looking for input as to what sort of linux sites are rare, that would be of great help? and if anyone is interested in contributing, please let me know. thanks! i'm also going to attempt to work on a few small programs, such as an ncurses livejournal client (i use livejournal, but for some strange reason none of the current clients compile correctly on my system-plus i like ncurses stuff [like naim]).
  21. cool, thanks! it takes or f'in' ever, i swear :) did you do stage 1? i skipped to stage 2 since i'm using the AMD XP liveCD
  22. i made an attempt at gentoo today. got decently far, then the "mirrorselect" program gave my /etc/make.conf file a wirl. ended up fubar, gave up 'cuz i was tired at the time, and went to bed.
  23. lp shows up in both 1 and 2, but part 3 yields no results.
  24. i believe the reason you will find more activity in the gentoo forums is because of the type of distro that is. where as mandrake is a more easy to use disto, it doesn't have as many active "knowledgeable" users as a distro that takes a bit of knowledge just to set up (i just spent the last couple hours attempting a gentoo install-ran into a problem and just didn't feel like finishing it up right now-my /etc/make.conf file got skewed when i attempted to use mirrorselect). i think thats why you find less activity on this board. but there is a solid base of people who are constantly here and doing what they can, so let's not forget about them :)
