  1. unsure if this should go under software or whatever but here goes. I can use fpdf www.fpdf.org to make pdf files using php. I need the pdf's for printing as html is not suitable for printing. i want to pipe generated pdfs through the pdf2ps program to generate ps files and send them directly to a printer eg is there a single command to convert a pdf to a ps file and then print it on the default or specified printer? eg) pdf2ps invoice.pdf invoice.ps - something to make it print the invoice.ps; or can it only be done with 2 commands eg) pdf2ps invoice.pdf invoice.ps; lpr invoice.ps [RET]; // if using lpr for example. any gostscript gurus here? I'm fairly sure it can't be done in one command :( but im not knowledgable on gostscript so...
  2. for easier install and avoiding using wine/winex you can play cs style games tactical ops(unreal mod) Urban terror(quake3 mod) So you don't really need cs. I use to play cs and dod all the time now i don't cause i would have to boot into windows and wines not good(except the one with alcohol). I don't even miss it.
  3. yeah OO supports odbc i have looked at that article before would much rather not use odbc. Your only easy option's in linux that i know of at the moment is to use PHP/MySQL/Apache setup but thats not dynamic which can be a problem, but it is very usefull for alot of things. html -> printing can be a bitch as html was not made to be a good language to print from. In which case you can use freepdf www.fpdf.org which is a php class that you can generate pdf's. pdf's being good for printing as pdf is derived from postscript. Static html as i said can be a problem in some situations you can make webpages appear fairly dynamic with javascript but in some cases that isn't enough. In which case you would need to use something like java, c, c++, or php-gtk. If you know php and nothing else php-gtk would be your best bet. you can of course use a mixture of the webpage/app. If there was an access for linux would you want to use it? access is a terrible database.

  5. Hard to beat what they already have. Faster certainly, better? it depends on your preferences
  6. master of orion, now that was a good game, i recall wasting a good many hours on that one :)
  7. But if you manage to do this with 9.0 i would really like to have the same, enable *both* pre-epmt and low latency that is. Whats wrong with supermount?. If you manage this can you make a tutorial like your nvidia tutorial? that would be fantastic. It would be great to have a reference for all the patches that mandrake have applied to the standard kernel for 9.0 and what each of them does and what removing this and that will do too your system, but thats a rather mamoth undertaking i expect.
  8. I found mandrake rpms for it and installed on 9.0, didn't work on 8.2 without a newer kernel. I used freedos on it. Seems to work ok, will see if i can get some old dos games running on it. I know i have an old copy of privateer somewhere and redneck rampage.
  9. I meant that you would be able to do the install with only the win cd and the .bin file following the readme that you have in your games listing.
  10. mandrakes free gpl version is a great service, i will continue to use mandrake cause of there dedication to making a great linux distro. And will by it once it's availible in store here. I could have gotten the 5cd's of redhat 8 at full adsl speed 0.5mbyte cause it's in the telecoms free fullrate download area but im not interested. They have debian though, hmm, nope it's fairly stable bleeding edge distro for me :!:
  11. i thought it meant Xtra Poo! :P At least when i have been fixing my friends(bad friends) xp installations, it appears to be complete crap to me. Makes a pentium 4 2000 feel like a 486. I'd stick with 98SE if it wasn't for Linux.

    KDE 3.1

i agree with ezroller,DragonMage and Ronin. I can't see that the benifit is worth the risk. 3 is a nice step up from 2.2 so im happy to have the newer version but as long as it's stable. What is the feature that you have to have in 3.1 that 3 doesn't have? If there isn't one and you just want to take a look, i would suggest waiting till it gets abit more stable or be prepared to reinstall 3.
  13. I installed mplayer last night :( a fairly hard way didn't have iso-8859-1-MPlayer-font-1-1.noarch.rpm uses another off plf that didn't seem to work properly, kept getting an error at startup something like it couldn't find a .ttf font. So i just searched for ttf's and use a X11 one and no more error, seems to work fine now. I like that ogle, you get a nice dvd player for only about 800k of downloads 8) OT: got vegastrike going in 9.0 i had to install the png2 rpm from 8.1(i think) and force the intsall of the vegastrike rpm then symlink the alsa so file to the older version name, and do the same for the oggfile... so. It runs but sound not working properly, i will look into it latter. you can't install the older versions of alsa, and ogg as it breaks alot in 9.0
  14. the only way you could give someone on win a virus is if you received a email with a virus attachment and forwarded the email with the attachment to a windows user. You could say that mandrake is anti(windows)virus software  And that virii are good for allowing the best operating systems to survive and killing off all the weak systems   Although mass windows virus infections slow down the internet so thats a bad situation.
  15. oh 8.1, 8.2 was a bit faster and so is 9.0 but certainly not 2X's so it will be good when it comes out
  16. I don't have a problem with the speed of mozilla myself, so i don't see a point in changing as i like having all the features. But i will download it just to take a look. I use the orbit theme, damn nice theme imho.

I assume you would know about making .bin files executable and stuff like that. quote cannonfodder PostPosted: Tue Oct 01, 2002 1:25 am Post subject: My hand, trembling, reaches out for the Team Fortress CD's and *gasp* pulls back! "NO!" I shout. "I won't go back! I have a life to live.." icon_rolleyes.gif /quote If your playing a game your still living, if you are enjoying yourself is it not a worthwile use of your time? You could watch tv instead :P Don't play hl games play quake3 and unreal based games Hopefully soon play unreal2003 based mods 8) Or read a book or go outside etc... Or not, whatever makes you happy
  18. I used ogle on 8.2 for watching dvd's but i was unable to find all the stuff i needed for 9.0 Cheers :D Now if you would include all the relevant Mplayer files for 9.0..... :P

Only question is: when will the new stable kernel be released. I have been hearing rumours that it might be soon - like in the next 6 months or so. Apparently they are doing some kind of freeze on it as of Oct 31. /qoute well 31 of October is a monumental date as its my birthday :P
  20. runs under linux without wine unreal yes cs no quake3 yes wolf(quake3) yes cs alternatives urban terror(free quake3 mod) closer to DOD or firearms - bandages, limp when shot in leg, get tired from constant jumping, accuracy less when running. AOT- tactical ops (pay for unreal mod, free version availible) - closer to cs 1.3 - you can bunny hop accuracy same when running, more action orientated
  21. yes i always install as root too. I had quake3 installed in usr/local/games/quake3 and so i just moved it to /home/games/quake3 on my other system. The only thing i had to do was edit the quake3 bash script and change the path. sim links were not needed as i launch the games from my desktop, but they would be easy to recreate anyway. I think i will install all my games in the home directory (/home/games) in future as when i upgrade i keep my home partition and format the other partions. Not to mention that my default partition size for /usr was only 2.9 Gb which gets filled up very quick when you install several 500+ Mb games using the default install path. oh well must get back to playing with 9.0 :D One thing i can say about Mandrake/Linux, the more i use it the more i like it, which was the exact opposite of windows.
  22. installed 9.0 on my older box and it looks good, followed DOlson's tut for nvidia cards, good tut works well :) wanted to install unrea tourneyl, tacticalops etc on it. Hmmm why bother installing then reloading all the maps that been downloaded from the game servers. Just copy the game folders from my primary box to my secondary box and everything works sweet. Try doing that on windows  Oh well time to install 9.0 on my primary box
  23. It's a great site, I too really like Mplayer. and of course the dvd playing stuffs a must. well if you have a dvd player anyway :D
