  1. Really, I must be getting an extra special version of the OS every year then!
  2. Use the Easy-Urpmi link at the top of the page to update your sources then as root in the console type urpmi urpmi to make sure "urpmi" is up to date then you can use the update feature in MCC to keep everything shiny and new WOOPS I shoulda read the whole post after you "urpmi urpmi" then as ANON said type urpmi --auto-select but remember this will update everything and then also add EVERYTHING e.g. if your only using kde and not something else like gnome it will update kde and then install gnome and all the other progs that are available in the Mandrake sources so you might want to hand pick your updates
  3. if you search in tips and tricks there is a post for this
  4. if you get an HP printer that has an ethernet jack you just add it to the network not a computer and set it up on both computers as a network printer
  5. you don't need a package you just need to edit your config file for X
  6. it's been awhile since I dual booted but I don't think mandrake writes to hda until it sets up the mbr later down the line. you could unplug the ide cable from the first hard drive -- mandrake should still see the second one as hdb since it is still a slave then after manny is set up go into mcc and add windows to grub or lilo dirty but it will work
  7. It looks like Mandrake is about to rewrite your partitions on hda which would be bad. r u telling Mandrake to use your second drive (hdb) and then letting Mandrake set the partitions for you or are you doing this yourself?

    urpmi help

Sorry I didn't clarify -- I was pressed for time. I meant to say to uncheck the boxes for the CD sources not remove them.

    urpmi help

go to easy urpmi and set up your sources then remove the cd sources.
  10. in console as root type init 6
  11. you need to create a file in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ called ifcfg-wlan0 it should look something like this according to your setup DEVICE=wlan0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp ONBOOT=yes ESSID=whatever you ESSID is MODE=Managed KEY= if your using wep also you might want to go into the ifcfg-eth0 script and change ONBOOT to no
  12. run iwconfig as root and post the results ps did you modprobe ndiswrapper?
  13. first things first did you have your kernel source installed when you installed ndiswrapper also did you uninstall the version of ndiswrapper that mandrake installs by default when you install your os then are you using the latest ndiswrapper from sourceforge also on your cd you should have a driver along with the .INF file --- you need to have both
  14. I use this card with ndiswrapper and I get great performance.
  15. OMG! I don't think I have ever seen Gowator stuck !
  16. kde-head -- does this meen you got your wireless up?
  17. Most "g"'s are compatable with the b standard I know my card is. run over to the manuf. website and make sure, but I think your last prob is that ESSID entry
  18. you can't use my config --- it will look for a network with my ESSID you need to add your ESSID to your file otherwise it is looking for an open network I am using a Dlink router and the ESSID is actually shown as SSID but it's the same thing ESSID is your network name
  19. 2 things you don't have the ESSID name in there and try auto for your chanel and boy do you got alot of stuff in that file here is the file i put on my girlfriends laptop for when she is here --- very short and very sweet remember when first trying something "KISS" -- Keep It Simple Stupid -- works for me until I get something working good DEVICE=wlan0 BOOTPROTO=dhcp ONBOOT=yes ESSID=stayoffmynet MODE=Managed it works great and she has no prob whatsoever connecting
  20. I wish you lived next to me then I could get free internet through your wireless!
