  1. I seem to remember with the 9 versions people were saying to just install freetype2 or something. Is that the case here maybe? I see I only have freetype installed here, but there is a freetype2 out there.
  2. *cough* http://www.MandrakeUsers.org/index.php?showtopic=12190
  3. neutro reminded me of something else I had done. I changed that too, but I did it in the preferences ( right click on player) ... under the video tab. Prior to installing the video drivers, I was unable to choose the xv driver listed, it would not let me till I had a working nVidia installation.
  4. It's probably your video driver. Have you installed it? I have a nVidia tnt2 card and couldn't get mplayer's playback working correctly until I got my nVidia driver problem my nVidia driver problem solved.
  5. bigjohn... Stop that, you're making me dizzy I had some trouble with CD sound and xmms here. I use KDE and installed kscd and things starting working then. Still haven't figured out why I can't play CD's with xmms, but that's a project for me later. The new auto launch thing was configured to use kscd, so that's what I tried.
  6. To install... just double-click the rpm files. As a newbie, I would recommend sticking with Mandrake rpms too, until your more familiar with the system. AS for the modem, what is it ??? Most likely its a winmodem and will need a driver. (this one won't be a Mandrake rpm, but...) Haven't dealt with these lately... having cable now... and Mandrake sets it all up for me now. Good Luck!
  7. Didn't work for me. Which drivers are we using --- the latest from nVidia's site or the patched version from elsewhere? I tried the patched version of NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-5328-pkg0.run and I ended up with about 60 FPS. Had to back down to the patched NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496.pkg0.run to get my 320 FPS again.
  8. I am totally lost here, and at the risk of sounding stupid... I thought I would offer a thought anyway. Would running # /usr/bin/ldconfig -v help here? I ran into this for something recently and this is supposed to update and fix your library paths.
  9. The USB detection worked great for me. My devices: USB wheel mouse --> onboard USB 1 port and connected to my USB 2 card are: External harddrive printer scanner CF card reader My system is quite different tho, AMD and I booted off CD2 instead.
  10. There were a few that had that 9's problem and there was a fix somewhere. ooops, nevermind... (too late for fix) As Ix requested... clarify your current situation.
  11. Seeing how it all depends on where your at and how everything is routed anyway... and also, peeps don't like to publicise there "fav" servers and /. them to death, here's what i would do. Make a list of possible candidates and just start the download. After a few seconds you will know if its moving fast enough or not. IF not, just kill it and move on to the next one. BTW: a cool feature with bittorrent is that you CAN NOT get a bad download. It will verify the download as it progresses.
  12. If your running a stable system now and all your hardware is recognized, or if you have anything that can't be easily replaced on your system... I would wait. You can just upgrade packages to get the newer toys and eyecandy. On the other hand, if things just ain't working like they should, you have one of those USB devices (or other) that you can't get working, and you are prepared to start all over (just in case) then go for it.
  13. At this point I can only offer a guess or two. Maybe your libraries aren't linked up correctly. I believe by running the following could help. I don't think it would hurt any either. # /sbin/ldconfig -v Also, maybe try another torrent and or tracker. For ref, the following is the exact command I ran (with the above files listed above installed) in MDK 10 CE, and it works. [scoopy@localhost scoopy]$ btdownloadgui.py Mandrakelinux-10.0-Community.torrent
  14. thanks guys, but I think we needed a patched version that nVidia doesn't offer on its site. But I am making progress here... To recap, After installing MDK 10, my frame rates got worse after installing the nVidia drivers. To get the rate back on par with previous installation, and get back my 300 plus rate: 1) Download a patched driver for kernel 2.6 from: http://www.sh.nu/download/nvidia/linux-2.6/ 2) install as SU without X running sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run 2) exit /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 by changing two lines: Driver "nv" --> replace "nv" with nvidia Load "glx" # 3D layer --> replace "glx" with /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so so the trick was to use the patched driver and also to use the full path to glx.
  15. I agree and add ... also the most confusing release. (RC vs Final, the new menu, and changes with how audio and CD's operate.)
  16. Did ya try, removing the k menu and then adding it back in OR, try the add / remove applet or special button --- especially the k menu. I did notice the K button has been replaced by a Mandrake star. (somebody has been messing with the start menu, yes ?)
  17. SU file manager is gone... But, you can easily make your own with command "kdesu konqueror" KDE's control panel should still be there, right next to MCC's icon.
  18. Have no idea what that error is trying to say, but if you didn't install the one on your mandrake disk, I would try that one and see if it runs better. Also, the wxPython is for the bittorrent-gui package. I found it needed the following depends to install this: wxPythonGTK-2.4.2.4-2mdk libwxPythonGTK2.4-2.4.2.4-2mdk and it also seems bittorrent will need these: libgmp3-4.1.2-4mdk python-base-2.3.3-2mdk libpython2.3-2.3.3-2mdk python-2.3.3-2mdk
  19. EEEEEK! Its that dam ad again
  20. IF it was KDE..., but lets double check these things: Not sure which is which, but I need these loaded here: usb-interface usb-uhci usb-ohci ehci-hcd Do you need to add an entry for the camera in FSTAB ?
  21. you running mdk 9.x or 10 ? I think some USB hotplug script was borked in the 9.x versions --- which would account for some of the problems I have read about. For some... there devices all work, for others, its been a different story. After installing 10, my problem device, among others, are starting to work again.
  22. did ya try this one: http://themes.mozdev.org/themes/negativemod.html I just successfully installed a theme with MDK 10 and Mozilla 1.6 from that site. Seeing this is a jar file, if you know a bit of java and how to open one up and edit it, you may be able to create a skin with your own colors and buttons. The only skinning I have done is with forums. These only involve knowing a bit of HTML and being able to find your way around the site's structure without messing up the php code.
  23. My frame rates drop after installing newer nvidia drivers. This has been a problem with my system with both 9.2 and now 10. Using a RIVA TNT2 Model 64/Model 64 Pro card, ...with no nvidia, using "nv" I get about 160 FPS (default XF86Config-4) ...with nvidia, I only get about about 60 FPS (edited XF86Config-4) previously was running NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4363.run with 9.2 and was getting 320 FPS, and got the same results when I tried to upgrade nvidia. currently have the 5328 patched for 2.6 version installed in Mandrake 10. Have also tried installing MESA and libMESA any ideas what is wrong ?
