    Table PC

this is pc hardware, so it should be no problem to use it. the problem comme from the touch screen and the software decripting hand writing into text. If theses pieces of software exist, then we will have an equivalent to windows XP
  2. Gael Duval on Mandrakeclub: "because Mandrake Linux is about freedom of choice, because Mandrake Linux is about empowering people, because humans have the capability to move, because we love to see what users do with new products... ...we will release it, hopefully by the end of the year, as a holiday gift or any other reason that the end of December may inspire you. MandrakeSoft Team." What do you think ? Some people exposed their ideas here: http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?n...rticle&sid=7947 but i don't think they found it. this night i had an idea : What about a mandrake compaq tablet PC ? The compaq tablet pc is one fantastic toy (with writing with a pen), but it comes with Win XP. As Hp has a deal with mandrake, i think that would be GREAT !!!!!
  3. thanks for the tip alla. this sound interesting do you know how i can add this to the logon manager ? I use mdkdm to choose between kde/gnome/others, and would like to be able to choose kde-xinerama or kde-tv (for example) Is this possible on a graphical logon, or is it impossible since the X-server is launched before the graphical logon ?
  4. I would recommend pure-ftpd very easy to setup, and sery secure. I use it with succes since 1 year
  5. Hey my topic is back ! (seemed to me it dispeared this morning) thanks artree I think i will write a shell script with X -xf86config /etc/X11/XF86Config-4-TV :1 & export DISPLAY=:1 startkde & So that when i want tv out, i just ctrl-alt-F1 ./script ctrl-alt-F8 But i have a question : can i have 2 sessions of kde (or gnome) for the same user at the same time on 2 x-free screens ?
  6. thanks, i will try that. Tu es suisse ?
  7. I have a nVidia GeForce4 card, and 2 monitors + 1 TV set. I would like to setup 2 configurations : 1) 2 monitors in xinerama configuration : this works 2) 1 monitor + tv (to watch dvd & divx) The problems is that i know how to setup this 2 configurations in my XFree-4 config files, but with 2 different config files, and i don't know how to switch from one configuration to the over. I would like for example to have the 2 configurations on 2 Xserver screens, switching from one to another with crtl-alt-F7 and crtl-alt-F8 How can i do that ?
  8. i like the :wq at the end vim habits !!!
  9. Haaaaaa ! paranoia.... good laught ! What would be the goal of hostile foreign hackers ? They are interested in cracking important sites, like the pentagon. Or to hit you were it is the most efficient : ie money. Who cares about a little isp lost somehere in the us ? Nobody ! This is a skipt skiddie stuff. And like it or not, the majority of them are american, just because your country is huge and has a great proportion of computer/inhabitants and net access/inhabitants. Anyway, i would be real stupid to attack a site on your country. So lets says it a little vandal sript kiddie who is bored in front of is computer.... Last year, my debian server at home was hacked. But the guy was nice. He just left a little text saying he likes the style of the music i listen too :)
  10. I asked about the club rpms because they do have the club rpms for 9.1 but not for 9.2 ...... yet ?

    kaspaliste

Well, i've got no experience with this. Do you have a link to some how to ?
  14. Anyway, i'm still interested in a network install. I was looking for a small download (minimal system like debian netinstall) and then urpmi things, gut i didn't found this. How do you do a net install ?
  15. i felt that too ! P3 800MHz with 256Mo ram
  16. i think 9.1 had the same problem, with a lot of updates just after it was out. did mandrake rushed out ? do mandrake do a good job in keeping out bugs ? Well, this is not so different from windows world, where there are daily updates for XP theses days ! I really think you'd better pay for a fast interenet connexion rather than pay for incomplete CD. And if you want to support mandrake, join the club !
  17. karelj ask in another thread moved by bvc GodFlesh replied i use mdkkdm and it offers me the choice of my desktop environment everytime i have to log on.

    kaspaliste

I read an article about kaspaliste, and really want to give it a try. but there is no precompiled version for mdk 9.2 I found one for mdk 9.0 http://apps.kde.com/na/2/info/id/611 do you think i can use it ? I would really love a 9.2 rpm...
  19. If you have a running 9.1, all you have to do is to give your urpmi a 9.2 repository. The 9.2 iso are not out, but the repository of official 9.2 are. (lip6.fr for example). Then just follow the "how to" as if you are doing a cooker upgrade

    gnome vs kde

When i first tried Linux, i was under KDE. I didn't like the big K, the look of the clock, the fact that you have to use kmail and konqueror. Why all this K apps ? All this menus were overwhelmed by icons and options... I then tried gnome. A cute foot, nice icons, simple and straightforward interface... So nice ! For my work, i manipulate a lot of files (reports, articles, pictures...) and have been really dispointed by the sluggish feel of gnome nautilus.... (the files are on a windows server mounted with samba) So i decided to give konqueror a run from gnome. Much better ! I decided it was time to give kde a new look. I made some customization of the clock and icons. Still using mozilla for mail and web. And man, their konqueror is one really nice file manager. Far faster than nautilus. And with so many nice options, like layout for example ! I think i will keep kde for now on just because of konqueror...

    Configuring K-mail

yep, and may be choose gnome to start with, as it is easier to handle than kde at the begining.
  22. well, 2 distros a year, this is usual rate... In mdk 10, i would like to see : - kernel 2.6 - a feature in gnome to spread windows like in the latest mac OS. - a ftp client with the features of leechftp (from windows) - a better totem with playlist support and especially : a far better integration of mozilla and the plug in !
  23. What is your model of sound card ? - Mines worked nicely ( i have got 2 RC2 -> cooker install) - The firewall is working by default on my 2 boxes. why do you need a firewall on a dial up anayway ???
