Well everything is not so complicated ! To me the new structure is very much like the debian way of working: 1- For the lastest of the latest apps, but sometimes broken and stability issues, use COOKER(debian unstable) 2- Recent apps, but may be some problems from time to time , use COMMUNITY (debian testing) 3- Maximum stability, and official support, but with not so new apps, use OFFICIAL (debian stable) Now make your choice between the 3 propositions ! I will choose Official for a server and my desktop at work (i need stability the most), and community for my home desktop (more up to date, bugs not a problem).

LILO strangeness after RAID install
GodFlesh replied to MetalWanderer's topic in Installing Mandriva
tried with grub ? -
Well, it seems that the cdrom readers just don't see the files on the 1st cd ! This is really strange. I will do another burn on another brand cdrw, but it's really strange.

hey guys, I've installed 10.0rc1 & 2, and 10.0 beta1 about 5 time total. Yesterday i tryed to install 10.0 com on another comuter, and i wouldn't boot ! Same problem as you have described, but after a boot from cd2, when it ask for cd1, it just doesn't find it ! (burned 2 times, readable under 9.2). I tryed with 1 cd reader, 1 dvd reader, 1 cd burner.... May be this has to do with ide configuration ? If you had problem like mine, please write below you ide configuration : mine : iwill kk266r (via kt133a) chipset, hd on master ide1, cd on ide3 (tried master and slave), nothing on raid controller.

search the cooker mailing list, there's a urpmi repository made by a french guy.
-
same thing : cooker repository
-
Don't look for 10.0 repository of contribs or other. It will only be forked when the 10.0 official is released (nesxt month) Use cooker !!!! I'm still looking for a way to have club_commercial rpms anyway. From cooker mailing list: > I am confused with what I have read now. Apparently people are supposed to > update community from cooker? So there is no more separate updates available > as before? > Cooker is currently frozen, and is running in "update mode"... So only bugfixes will be uploaded to it.... > What happens then when cooker diverges far enough? There should be some stable > code base for 10.0? > It will have... If you look at any mandrake-devel mirror you will se a cooker & contrib wich is the same as now, and a stable & contrib-stable that will be forked when MDK 10.0 Official is out and cooker reopens... (currently they are only symlinks stable->cooker & contrib-stable->contrib...) > Anyway - I cannot use software manager to installl updates; I have to download > them to install offline. Could somebody give explain how to do it. > AFAIK there is no nice way right now... but if you do a urpmi.update -a && urpmi --auto-select on your system, take note of the files it want to install, and you then download them separately, you can do the actual update later offline...
-
why are they not available on the mandrakeusers.com site ?
-
I don't understand why easy urpmi lags so much after an official release. rpms are ready (they are in cooker) but impossible to set up the urpmi mirros for plf and contrib

Another "preuve" http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-c...34051428519&w=2

if you don't like your pvr250 anymore, i'm looking for one ! I'm using a classical wintv with success
-
artree, i would add gimp 2.0 and easy graphical user swithtching to your list.. Do you think ReiserFS4 will make it in Mandrake 10.1 ?

Roland : Solidworks, solidedge, parasolid, solidconcept, etc.... all use the same geometric engine. And they have by contract to add "solid" in their name. I think i have a friend of mine who works for them (a special solution for sheet metal). I have to check that out. Sinon t'es dans quel coin ?
-
i use superkaramba. could you tell me exactly what was the names of the *.themes files you are using ?
-
Well, i'm not an expert about opencascade, but there are other people other here that have spent years on it, so i may help. Sure ProE is expensive, but i have an educational license because i teach design with it. I haven't tested solidconcept. I have used a lot solidworks (same geometrical engine). What so great about solidconcept conpared to solidworks ? I have leaned with catia. Version 4 on an unix workstation. To bad the version 5 doesn't work under linux. Dassault system is one of our main lab sponsorts...
-
We use opencascade at my lab, but it's not all that great... you may try proE wildfire which is supported under Linux (haven't try myself, but i know someone who made it work).

I'm not sure the drivers of your modem are out yet for 2.6 kernel. Check the project homepage and tell us !

9.2 on existing RAID 0 set Silicon ImageR Sil3112A
GodFlesh replied to jdvb's topic in Installing Mandriva
jdvb : Have you tried just to boot with the first CD of mandrake 10 ? With such new hardware, you should check latest version of kernel for sure. -
ok ! Have you done some benchs in raid0 mode ? Or always going the safe route with raid1 ? :)
-
Is this that : http://avi.alkalay.net/software/musicman/ ? May be it's the same programm gowator was talking about.
-
May be you already now, but i have found a very interesting hardware site : http://www.silentpcreview.com/ see "recommended" My hd is the best, my cpu is not bad, my heatskink is top, so now i have to work on diy suspended HDD and my fans...

Looks like i will have to fire up windows to have a look at the media libraries of winamp... Does it needs the 5 version ? I'm surprised there are no such feature under linux...
