  1. That is true. I solved it using dkms.
  2. I was talking about it: no remote controls in MCC. It is available as a package. I have it installed but it does not work (look at my previous posts).
  3. In System are enlisted: Manage system services, Localisation, Administration tools. I had a look-see at Manage system services by enabling or disabling them, found lircd and lircmd, these are stopped. Trying to start lircd, got FATAL: module unconfigured not found. Trying to start lircmd: No such file or directory [FAILED]
  4. TV tuner works in 2008 so my wife is happy. PC freezes randomly with no reason, just mouse works. When I try to choose Nvidia proprietary drivers (I have managed urpmi database -official, nonfree etc) it goes to black screen and black pointer with white borders. Reboot if press reset button only, no key combination works. Freezes if I just switch off PC, blue screen with lower bar at ~95% full. Having installed ntfs-3g and ensured there are no restrictions I cannot write to ntfs partitions. Shortcut to switch language input does not work, I use clicking on the icon. I use Russian localisation because my wife does not speak English. Is there a possibility it is translation issue? Say, someone put extra comma or has missed a letter? Bluetooth crashed. I cannot paste logs of this crash because I have not installed something called "gdb".
  5. Thanks, I installed these packages. In MCC no trace of remote controls. In /usr/share I found lirc-remotes and in /usr/src lirc
  6. I am tried to find out anything related to infrared remote controls with no success. Does anyone know what app works with it in KDE? 2. I know about camorama for webcameras in GNOME. Does camorama work in KDE as well? Or maybe you know some other apps for KDE?
  7. It is up to you which way. I tried do upgrade using network connection but my 9 months daughter pressed reset button during this process and my Mandriva got completely crashed (I had not used any backup app). Hence my any future installations will be clean installs from CD or DVD. I have installed 2008 KDE ONE and do not see problems with Nvidia so far. But I am running 2008 just one day. Cheers
  8. Did it happen you boot CD? Try to press F3 or F4 then type noapic nolapic acpi=off.
  9. Same thing happend to me installing 2007.1 at first time. I solved this problem typing noapic nolapic acpi=off during booting livecd. Then I ticked off boxes ACPI, APIC and local APIC. These are if I remember correctly Mandriva offers you in latter sections of installation guide along with bootloader options: grub or lilo and which mode: text, graphical etc.
  10. Try MCC>Boot>set up boot system then tick off acpi and apic. It worked to me. Menu>utilities>compizconfig settings manager
  11. I am not sure gedit is a part of KDE. I think gedit is a part of GNOME and analog of it in KDE is KWrite.
  12. Try to play with MCC to reconfigure your network settings. I have dsl router and just tried through mcc>dsl>pppoe. In additional section values 0 and 40 or what you have in your ROUTER settings. Also I put username and password due to my provider requirements. I do not remember everything I did and cannot have a look-see at mcc settings. My 9 month daughter pressed the BUTTON in the middle of upgrade process from 2007.1 to 2008 so my mandriva screwed up completely.
  13. Ok, I'll try new 2008 32/64 OS's. I am interesting in wine just to run only one application which is Pinnacle tvviewer. Because mandriva 2007.1 is a bit doggy, there is a bug with saa7134. If 2008 has no such a bug (and others, of course) then I'll move to Mandriva fully, running windows in some virtual machine. I use windows in the office
  14. Does anyone know how to run windows .exe in windows "program files" folder? I had tried wine and could do nothing. I think because of .i586 version of wine on my amd64 dual core. I installed this one, had seen icons at the panel but clicking on it did nothing.
  15. 2008.0 at http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi/
  16. I did find mirror at http://www.mandrivauser.de/smarturpmi/
  17. I was not afraid of Linux :P. It just new thing for me remembering my first meeting of (Windows of course). And I like to learn and solve issues (try to solve) when I face them anywhere. And I am going to involve my wife but only thing is matter  : she cannot watch tv because of known drivers bug with saa7134, which hopefully will be solved in future release .
  18. Yossarian Thank you very mach. It works!`
  19. I'll check it tomorrow as I am not able to do it just now. What I remember for now, there are just create new folder and create shortcut (or link) to an application or file using something like command. I use GNOME, not KDE.
  20. I did that several times. My point is I cannot create shortcut to it because windows partition is not an application. It looks like a folder in /media. Any suggestions?
  21. Thanks. Have you tried this emulator? How good is it?
  22. How to create shortcut on desktop leading to windows partition in /media folder? When I do right-click it offers me only application and file options, but windows partition is folder actually.
  23. Is anywhere playstation 2 emulator for mandriva x86-64?
  24. Thanks John, You made things clearer. I was thinking in this way, clean install. What happend before at my first installation (this is second attempt to use mandriva): I had installed all updates/upgrades and kernel 2.6.21-5 for some reasons. I do not remember why but I think because there were independencies from some package which I wanted to install. So I got 3 kernels at one time: 2.6.17-13, 2.6.17-15 and 2.6.21-5. I think it caused some harm to my system, I was not able to work even if I chose older kernels to boot. Now, instead of any updates/upgrades I will just wait for new release. From one hand Linux gives more flexibility to manage cystem. But from other hand sometimes it confuses dummies.
  25. 1. Once I'll have upgraded my system to next Mandriva release (2008?) what will happen to old kernels? Will they be removed by new release? 2. Do I need to remove old kernels and packages related to because there is no need of them anymore? How do I do that, using MCC > software tool? [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
