  1. Maybe you mean 'bouncy cursor'? It's under 'look and feel'\'start-up'. I quite like that effect....
  2. In my wine config I have: [Drive x] "Path" = "/mnt/cdrom" "Type" = "cdrom" "Label" = "/mnt/cdrom" "Filesystem" = "win95" "Device" = "/dev/ide/hostx/bus1/targetx/lunx/cd" edit it for your system. PS doesn't winex come with a config tool? point2play?
  3. QT1.3 in ancient. Mandrake 10 is using 3.2.x I suggest you consider using a more modern mp3 player like JuK.
  4. A screenshot to help you.....
  5. With kmail you need not just to fill in the pop and smtp settings but also the 'identity'. On the general tab you need to fill in your name and email adress. Good luck.
  6. You have to put the CD and the floppy both in your PC, then reboot... (and did you try booting from the second CD?)
  7. http://archives.mandrakelinux.com/cooker/2...09/msg03616.php. Here's another possibillity: xircom_cb. It's 2 year old information but you could give it a try... (and maybe unplugging/plugging the pcmcia card....)
  8. Probably in you /etc/modules.conf. The pcnet_cs is a driver. (so i guess it would be something like alias ethX pcnet_cs in modules.conf). If you have that line you could try loading the driver manually by 'modprobe pcnet_cs' (as root)) and 'ifup ethX'.
  9. If a program uses kprint to print you should have the option to click properties and change the settings. Unfortunately OOo, all the Gnome apps etc etc don't use kprint (though i've heard there is a version of OOo coming out that's integrated with KDE). So if you want to easily change the printersettings you have to use kde apps.
  10. I haven't tried it in a while but if I remember correctly rawrite only works in DOS and not in a DOS box. Use http://sourceforge.net/projects/ntrawrite/ for writing a raw image ( http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386...-create-floppy). edit: And you could try booting from your second CD, and when it asks to switch CDs pop in the first one) And I agree with you, the search function on this board is not very good.
  11. It's the tv out. Unplug the cable running to you TV and reboot. A Nvidia bug at least 1 year old (that's how long it's been annoying me so maybe older :( )
  12. You use KDE? Go to printer settings>driver settings> under 'general' change the PrintoutMode to 'draft' (or even draft greyscale :) ). (Last week the same question was asked and in one of the answers a lot of screenshots were shown. Good luck)
  13. Is k3b freezing your computer or does the cd-burning freeze your computer? You can kill programs just by clicking on it. Press ctrl-alt-esc and your mousepointer changes into a skull. Click k3b and it will die. Your computer should be ok after that. If you have problems during the cd burning turn of hdparm for your burner (as root 'hdparm -d0 /dev/hdX where x is your cdburner). Your computer will most likely never really freeze. With alt-sys rq-r, alt-sys rq-s, ... e.....i,u,b. it's almost always possible to recover the pc.

    start sounds

First lsmod must be run by user 'root'. Second, the service 'sound' can only be changed (on/off) by 'root'. There are different ways to do this. I usually (if I don't use the MCC) do (as root) '/etc/init.d/sound status' to see if it's on. Now your problem. Since you have a soundcard and a driver there is every reason to assume you should have sound. Most likely there is something 'muted' in your mixer settings. So check kmix (or the mixer you are using) and check if everything 'on'. Good luck.
  15. Still if it's looks you want........... (and if you have one of these multimedia keyboards with a whole lot of buttons to bind apps to you don't need desktop icons anyway )
  16. Don't know if this is what you want but you can use konsole for that. Just remove menu, tab and scroll barr (first 3 items under settings). Then rightclick border and choose 'hide border'. Oh and before you hide the menu bar, under settings choose 'transperent konsole' and 'fullscreen'.
  17. Most likely sound is 'muted'. Open kmix and make sure everything is turned on.
  18. In the MCC (mandrake control center) go to software, media management (I don't know if it is called media management for sure, just translating the name from Dutch) and remove the 'update' entry from the list. The go back to 'software' and choose 'update' again. You will get the list with update servers. Or alternatively, from the CLI. Open a console, switch to root and type 'urpmi.removemedia update'. Then add update gain with help from this site http://urpmi.org/easyurpmi/index.php. After you have added update run urpmi --auto-select Good luck

    Mplayer Problem

You want to play one video after the other? Try 'mplayer -fs video1 video2 video....'. That works for me. edit: -fs is for fullscreen. Drop it if you don't want it

    Mplayer Problem

I think this is a problem with sound mixing. Can you play a mp3 and a video at the same time?
  21. Interesting error :) There are a few things you can try: 1- Log in as root (by 'user name' type 'root') and see if that works. If you can start KDE as root it might a problem with your KDE user account. Rename then the /home/yourname/.kde folder and try again. If that doesn't work it could be an authorization problem. 2- Second thing you can try is updating Mandrake. Go to the MCC (mandrake control center)-->Software-->Update (in Icewm). Install all updates and then try again. I wouldn't say Gnome is as good as KDE but there are plenty of people who disagree with me.
  22. With urpme irssi. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/eggnbacon/docs/...owto/index.html (There isn't really a need to use the console. The MCC (mandrake control center) is a GUI for urpmi (and other programs) . Its just that it's much easier for me explaining how urpmi works in a console then describing how the MCC looks like, which button to press, which tab to choose etc etc.)
  23. This is what I found with google http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/sh...8515#post988515 Good luck.
  24. I've never used irssi but their website says it's just an IRC client. Is that what you want? There are tons of others. I believe Xchat is the most popular (urpmi xchat) but kopete (urpmi kopete) supports its as well. Just look around till you find one that fits your needs. :)
  25. In Mandrake software comes in RPM packages. Most software is dependent on other software. Urpmi is a tool that takes care of these dependencies. That means if you install a package the 'urpmi' program will check what other software needs to be installed. In Mandrake software is stored on your CD's, on internet repositories (storage), on your harddrive, on floppies, basically on everything you want. Urpmi can be linked to any of these places. This linkage can be done with the help from the site you were pointed to. Step 1: Choose your version of Mandrake (should be automatic but check) Step 2: selection of repository source. Tick contrib under core distributions and choose what mirror you want to use (with the dropdown menu) Step 3: click the button 'proceed to step 3' Step 4: copy verything is the dark grey box beginning with urpmi.addmedia and ending with .cz Step 5: open a console and log in as root Step 6: paste what you copied and enter Step 7 repeat these steps for the source PLF I won't tell you how to add CDroms, folders etc etc. Do urpmi.addmedia --help in a console and you'll see that it's much the same. (or alternatively use the Mandrake control center/software) To install software, open a console, log in as root and do urpmi <name of program> (for instance urpmi mplayer will install mplayer) Good luck
