  2. i have no idea if this will help, but try editing the XF86config-4 file in /etc/X11
  3. you may wanna try installing those drivers again. nvidia is up to 4191. make sure you are doing the nvidia kernel and driver rpm. http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_di...y_ia32_1.0-4191

  8. I got it working! I grabbed libXft2-2.1-2.1mdk.i586.rpm and built it from the source. That also installed to /usr/local/lib, so I just made links from everything that the src rpm built and put the links into /usr/lib and that corrected the problem. ARTS still doesn't work, but I rarely use that as a sound server anyways.
  9. I just installed KDE 3.1 final from some cooker packages I found. I first removed KDE 3.0.X. Then I was in dependency hell, but all dependencies were filled. I get the following errors when I try to start KDE I get this error message: KDEINIT: relocation error :/usr/lib/libXft.so.2 : undefined symbol: FcPatternAddInteger Can anyone help me fix this?
  10. Damn Newbies.....:) He has a GeForce2 MX. he has the latest version of the Nvidia drivers, and all dependencies are filled. We can't seem to get to tthe bottom of this one. I had it running on an identical machine not 2 weeks prior.
  11. yup thats the version I'm running. I haven't had a single hickup from it. even if it is a beta release.
  12. I honestly couldn't tell you what kind of transparency it has, but it looks sweet. and I guess its time to dig up that tutorial of his.
  13. I think this cursor shadowing is the shit!!! buty I was getting tired of that black pointer and no way to change it. I'm using that cooker release of XFree86 that they have on rpmfind.
  14. My rage 128 has been a champion. but after using using linux in the geforce4's we have at work, my next box will be NVidia equipped.
  15. so it seems that the new monitor dident liked my old ATI rage pro 8 MB card. I doubt you did either!! :wink:
  16. ok, i fixed it. i got rid of this line in my /etc/modules.conf above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss and changed the next line to just: alias sound emu10k1 thank god it works.

I have done so, I tried esound, alsa and OSS, and got no sound from either. not sure if it'll help, but here's my /etc/modules.conf alias net-pf-4 ipx probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi alias eth0 8139too above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-emu10k1 probeall usb-interface usb-uhci
  18. whenever I try to run gkrellm with the -w option i see this: [ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$ gkrellm -w (gkrellm:5333): Gdk-WARNING **: ../../../gdk/x11/gdkdrawable-x11.c:764 drawable is not a pixmap or window Segmentation fault (core dumped) [ezroller@omniscience ezroller]$ does anyone know what this means?
  19. when I install with KDE and Gnome, I have sound. But now that I am trying to install a system devoid of KDE, I have no sound. all the sound services are running, and it appears to find the appropriate modules at boot. also the soundcard is using the proper driver.

    Sound Problems

    I hate to doubt you, but that doesn't sound like you were root. can you paste the contents of your terminal when you see this? do you get any other types of error messages along the way?
