  1. Thanks much, it worked for me :D

  3. Hi there scoonma :) 1. No, I did not pass those paths while compiling, but I think that configuration script guessed them correctly as there were no errors during compilation. 2. 4. And is there a possibility to only remove this text from my current button?
  5. But I like to keep my menu button as it is now, only without this awfully looking white text "Menu". In 2007.0/2007.1 when I replaced original images in /var/lib/mandriva/kde-profiles/free/share/icons/crystalsvg with ones I made myself, then there wasn't any white text on my menu button, and in 2008.0 there's one as you can see on the picture above. How to get rid of the text?
  6. I compiled KMyFirewall 1.0.1 from sources without probs. Now I have them with configuring it. The problem is all options are inactive (I run it as root) I didn't have such problems in 2007.1. The other thing is that once I exported my setting with File -> Export.. -> Export as IPTables (Linux) Script and now just don't know how to import them. What am I doing wrong?
  7. I'm also impatiently waiting for Linux installer :) Hope it'll be out soon, and at the moment I make use of my Windows XP ;) on which unfortunately the game crashes in random moments. Today I had 5 crashes in about 2 hours of playing Hope it won't be a problem on Mandriva 2008.0.
  8. I had the same problem with illegible fonts only in "code" tag and only in Opera. Some suggested me to install msfonts but I prefer Liberation. Knew this was some kind of Opera issue. What's all about with disabling "core x fonts"? I'm just curious P.S. It did the trick of course ;)
  9. Same question here. In 2007.1 there were no "intrinsic" texts in the K-menu button, so simple swap did the trick. Now there is this terrible text
  10. Thanks for your reply adamw :) I know that there is a non-free driver available in the repositories, but I prefer to use proprietary because of it's better performance. As I wrote above I'm planning to play ET:QW on my Mandriva soon, and I need the most efficient driver to get max FPS possible, cause I have rather low/medium-end computer. Do You think that these drivers will work correctly with the new hybrid X.org in Mandriva 2008.0?
  11. Hello guys! I've been downloading Mandriva 2008.0 via torrent for about 20 hours or so. It really is the best way to get it right know, as some people trying to use FTP have a max speed at 4-5 KB/s. My average download speed exceeds 34KB/s (58% at the moment). Just can't wait to get my hands on it :D All of the reviews I read so far were very positive, so hope it would be a very stable system. I have also one question, because news on the web were sometimes opposing. Which version of X.org Mandriva has, 7.2 or 7.3? It's really crucial to me, as there aren't any AMD/ATI drivers for 7.3 (and probably have to wait couple more months or so, like the last time ), and I'm impatiently waiting for the ET:QW Linux installer, which will be released in few weeks time probably :P As you can see I would prefer 7.2 at the moment :D
  12. It's very nice! I liked it. Is there something of that kind but regarding to Mandriva or any other distro? B)
  13. I think I'll stick with OO :D BTW, there's a new version available B)
  14. I have a problem with Kaffeine 0.8.4 compilation. Firstly I have to say, that I'm using Mandriva 2007.1. After fresh install I removed libxine and all other related packages, because I wanted to have the newest xine-lib 1.1.7. I compiled it without problems following instructions on the project web site, then I compiled xine-ui 0.95 and gxine - also without complications. The only thing was I had to add a flag PKG_CONFIG=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/ so they could see newly compiled xine. Both programs are working fine now. Also I compiled Amarok 1.4.6 from sources, although it didn't require any flags - its configuration script had correctly recognized xine-lib. The problem is I cant make Kaffeine to compile, because its script don't detect xine-lib. I tried almost everything. Firstly standard configuration [zibi1981@localhost kaffeine-0.8.4]$ ./configure --without-dvb (...) checking for pkg-config... 0.21 checking for DPMS extension... yes checking for XTest extension... yes checking for Xinerama extension... yes checking for xine-lib... no --------------------------------------- ERROR: Could not find xine-lib >= 1.0.2 --------------------------------------- configure: error: could not find xine-lib Then using PKG_CONFIG flag with syntax, that was succesful in xine-ui and gxine compilation [zibi1981@localhost kaffeine-0.8.4]$ PKG_CONFIG=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/ ./configure --without-dvb (...) checking grepping for visibility push/pop in headers... yes checking whether g++ supports -fvisibility=hidden... yes checking if Qt is patched for -fvisibility... yes checking for pkg-config... ./configure: line 36163: /usr/local/lib/pkgconfig/: is a directory --------------------------------------------------------------------- ERROR: Could not find pkg-config. 15. My monitor is a CRT (Sony CPD-E230), so 60 Hz is far not enough. I'm usually working on Windows with 100 Hz on 1024x768 resolution. When I try to use fglrx driver, the mcc installs some ati packages from repositories, and after restart my Mandriva acts as I described above, that is the screen turns black before displaying KDE login menu. The only way to resolve this is to switch back to Vesa. Anyone know how to obtain higher refresh rate with Vesa driver? EDIT Meanwhile I found this, but don't know if it would work on Mandriva. Beside I would rather prefer less involving solution than kernel recompiling...
  16. Uff, I finally managed to install Mandriva making use of Ian's suggestions. Now I got another problems: 1. after I updated the system, it doesn't shut down or restart anymore. The screen just turns black and nothing happens until I'll eventually press "restart" button... Below is GRUB's menu.lst file [zibi1981@localhost ~]$ cat /boot/grub/menu.lst timeout 15 color black/cyan yellow/cyan gfxmenu (hd0,0)/boot/gfxmenu default 4 title linux kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=/dev/hda1 noapic nolapic resume=/dev/hda2 splash=silent vga=791 initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.img title linux-nonfb kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=linux-nonfb root=/dev/hda1 noapic nolapic resume=/dev/hda2 initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.img title failsafe kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz BOOT_IMAGE=failsafe root=/dev/hda1 noapic failsafe nolapic initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd.img title 2.6.17-13 kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-13mdv BOOT_IMAGE=2.6.17-13 root=/dev/hda1 noapic nolapic resume=/dev/hda2 splash=silent vga=791 initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-2.6.17-13mdv.img title 2.6.17-14 kernel (hd0,0)/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17-14mdv BOOT_IMAGE=2.6.17-14 root=/dev/hda1 noapic nolapic resume=/dev/hda2 splash=silent vga=791 initrd (hd0,0)/boot/initrd-2.6.17-14mdv.img Maybe I should add acpi=off? I'm not sure... 2. I'm forced to use Vesa display driver until ATI releases theirs with X.org 7.2 support. And because of it my monitor's refresh rate is set to 60 Hz, although KDE tells me, that it is 86 Hz... Again... My eyes are going to explode soon... Well, I tried the trick with gtf, but as far with no avail. 17. It seems to me You may have right ianw1974, it could be something with my X server. It's totally incomprehensible to me, as I never had this kind of problem with my old motherboard, an with my "new" one I already reinstalled Mandriva three times but without avail  I did as You advise me, and was able to start X server as a root. Mandriva seemed to be working properly for me. Then I logged out, and typed startx as a normal user, and I got I checked, and there wasn't any file of a name serverauth.2619 created. What next would You suggest?
  18. So no one has an idea what am I doing wrong? I'd really want to have my Mandriva back, but since I've replaced my old mobo I could only successfully install Windows Xp
  19. In my BIOS setup it all looks quite different, than in yours John. I didn't find anything such as Interrupt mode anywhere, and the other option is located in Advanced -> PCIPnP -> Plug And Play O/S, and I've already set it to [No].
  20. Didn't know how to but the other things weren't helpful
  21. Thanks for your suggestion John, but boot parameters of my Mandriva system are as follows BOOT_IMAGE=linux root=LABEL= System resume=/dev/hda2 splash=silent vga=791 so splash=silent is already included. When I'm trying to boot using these parameters without any modifications, nothing happens. When I add acpi=off, the system loads until KDE login menu, where screen turns black and nothing happens.
  22. Thx for your reply. And here are the logs you asked #%PAM-1.0 auth required pam_securetty.so auth required pam_nologin.so auth include system-auth account include system-auth password include system-auth session optional pam_console.so session include system-auth
  23. I searched around the web and this board of course, but couldn't find solution to my new problem  And here it is... Yesterday I replaced my old motherboard - ASUS A7V600-X - with "new" one, bought on an Internet auction - ASUS A7V880. These two don't seem to vary a lot, they both have the same southbridge (VIA VT8237) i.e., but my new mobo has Dual RAM access and better northbridge. Nonetheless I only replaced motherboard, all the other components remain the same. Firstly I installed Windows XP on a two SATA HDDs based RAID 0 without any complications. Then I installed Mandriva Spring on a ATA-133 Maxtor HDD. The installation process ended without any problems, but when it came to first boot, it went only as far as GRUB menu. When I chose first option (normal boot), the progress bar didn't even move... Then I remembered that there was some issues with ACPI described around the web, so on the next couple of restarts I have tried to add to kernel options almost all combinations off noapic nolapic acpi=off I also tried to alternatingly turn off and on all the ACPI/APIC options i BIOS - the only effect was, that progress bar did finally move forward, but when it came to the stage of displaying KDE login menu, the screen turned black but remained on. And till now I couldn't manage to change that I also tried to first start in failsafe mode, and then after login in type in console startx, but when I did that as a normal user I got Then I logged in as root and typed startx again, but the screen turned black, as I described above. Could anyone help me with this?
  24. And this is what I meant more or less, when I wrote ;)
