  1. Man how long does a portupgrade -arR take anyways???? Mine been running for well over a day now and when I try to install any packages like Firefox or Gaim I get errors that some of the needed packages are not up to date to install them. :( Was it alright that I just did a portsnap fetch, extract, update, portupgrade -arR without doing anything else first?? I would really like to do some game playing sometime soon on the M$ side, but this seems to be taking forever. lol
  2. Updating FreeBSD 6 and installing Firefox.
  3. I can install packages as I am doing a portupgrade right??? Cause I am. lol Installing Firefox. :D
  4. Well opened all the dirs in konq and there is nothing in them. So i think I'll .tar them all or just get rid of the. I didn't do any mkdir so not sure where they came from. lol So we gonna get a "FreeBSD Review" sticky like we have with Fedora and Ubuntu? I know there have been some looking at playing with a different O.S. (LiquidZoo being one of them.) This would be a good one to play with, I think.
  5. Yea I know about the wall paper. :D Dirs, 4, 6, and, by, can, console, cut, daemon, disable, in, mouse, past, Port, port, r, Select, text, the, and You. Those are not the hidden dir. either. I know I want to belong to more groups than "wheel" also, but not sure on the command and what ones. I believe it would be the audio, cdrom, games, groups, but aren't there a couple of more? I will work on the wallpaper too, just need to use a different browswer beside konq. lol (waiting for the portupgrade to finish. Been watching a movie. :D )
  6. Well after changing the "vga" driver to "nv" in the xorg.conf I was able to load a desktop. After trying 3 mice here. Two the exact same ps/2 opticals and a usb optical (none worked, or I couldn't get them to work) I traded with the neighbor for a Memorex ball mouse and it worked fine. Still would like to get kdm to load at boot and gonna have to work on the sound also. Here is a screeny doing a "portupgrade -arR" Oh yea, what do I do with all those dir. in my /home that I didn't make?
  7. Downloading the cd's now. I'm just glad I have a backup image on the server. lmao
  8. If I am understanding this right I'll have to use Partition Magic to erase my linux partions I have to make just one "slice" and then setup partitions from within the installer? What size partitions do you suggest? I have about 20 gigs to play with.
  9. I don't think I would have any clue on how to install. :(
  10. Update: Just load DesktopBSD on a little old IBM laptop with a pcmcia Netgear wireless card in it. All I had to do was open up the gui setup and then put in the right ip addies for my network and bingo online. :D Just might load this on my laptop. :D
  11. Yea cybr I've done that a couple of times and still a no go. Even disabled acpi in my bios with no luck.
  12. Welp desktopBSD gives me the same pmap_mapdev error. :( Doesn't look like I'll be running BSD on here.
  13. FreeBSD seems as though it is a pain to install. DesktopBSD from what their site says is base off of Free 6 with the same ports.
  14. Well IX here is another easy installable BSD flavor if you aren't too happy with that one. http://desktopbsd.net/ I just finished downloading now and gonna give it a shot and see if I can get this installed without any errors. lol
  15. Think I am going to have to wait until RC2 and see if it will install. IX gonna use it for a little while? Would be nice to get a good review on it. :D
  16. Well on the desktop here it seems as though it will not install. I get a pmap_mapdev, can't alloc kernel memory error. I did throw the cd into a little old IBM laptop I have and it is installing. Not sure how the wireless card is going to work though. Cybr hope you see then and can maybe shed some light on my error.
  17. I understand the laziness. I read the Slack thread after I posted in here, but was too lazy to come back and edit my post here. :D Well it just seems as though this desktop system doesn't like Ubuntu at all. Thinking of just removing the linux partition all together and just running all windows on here. I pretty much only use this system for gaming anyways. I might give Arch a try on here though. Not sure yet. Been suffering from pc/os burn out as of late. lol
  18. Arctic try Slack you'll like it. As for me I had to go back to Hoary on my desktop. Breezy for some reason just did not like my desktop. Firefox would not hardly run at all. Opera seemed to work alright. If I did a "man" in a terminal and wanted to close out of it, I would have to actually close out the terminal to get out instead of hitting escape. When I would log out and try to log in there would be a error all the time about "gnome has found another panel running.....". I might try to install kubuntu and then upgrade to Breezy with apt, and see what happens.
  19. I'm a noob. I find E17 confusing as heck to configure anything in it.
  20. I found it at kde-look.org. Tried to find a link but had to leave for work. I'll look when I get home.
  21. http://www.shot-online.com/ It is a free golf game. I have it installed with wine, but I get something about active x controls not installed on mozilla. Wondering if Cedega would work and not really sure on how to install with cedega either. Someone want to take a crack at this? See if they can get it installed and working? Thanks, FX P.S. I do have it installed on the MS gaming machine but just want to play or try to play it on that laptop which has only Linux. (Ubuntu)
  22. Ubuntu Breezy. I need to get some better icons though I think. Anyways Superkaramba and Noatun running.

Thanks John. I was just scrolling down. /me feels stupid as hell right now. lol
  24. I installed 2006 and trying to setup repos in easy urpmi. Well no matter what mirros I choose in step 2 after choosing 2006 in step one I come up with mirrors for 2005 or 2005 LE. Here is what I get, notice the 2005 and even 10.2 mirrors. This can't be right can it???? urpmi.addmedia plf-free ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/free/10.2 with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia plf-nonfree ftp://ftp.planetmirror.com/pub/plf/mandrake/non-free/10.2 with hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia --update updates ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/ma...5/main_updates/ with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/ma...i586/media/main with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/ma...6/media/contrib with media_info/hdlist.cz urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.caliu.info/pub/distribucions/ma.../media/jpackage with media_info/hdlist.cz
