  1. Microsoft’s plans to get Office 2007 into British classrooms suffered a fresh blow yesterday when Becta confirmed that it has referred an interoperability complaint to the European Commission. A Microsoft spokesman told The Register today: “Microsoft is deeply committed to education and interoperability. We believe that more and more schools are upgrading to Windows Vista and Office 2007 as they increasingly recognise the benefits of embracing technology to transform teaching and learning. “We have funded the development of tools to promote interoperability between Office 2007 and products based on the ODF [Open Document Format] file format. We will continue to work with Becta and the Commission in a cooperative manner to resolve these issues.â€
  2. obzerver: I've moved your latest posts to this thread, and linked to the other one. Please don't raise the same problem in different topics - it causes confusion. :)
  3. mindwave: I've merged your latest post into this thread, as it's a continuation of the same discussion. :)
  4. It has been almost three years since the release of OpenOffice.org 2.0. Now, the open source office suite is back with a new 3.0 beta release, ushering in a handful of major enhancements, broader file format support, and a solid batch of evolutionary new features. Ars Technica takes the new beta for a spin to see if their productivity increases.

Welcome to the board. :) According to openprinting.org, you need to use Lexmark's own driver which is available here.
  12. In a blog posting this week, Alex Brown, leader of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) group in charge of maintaining the Office Open XML (OOXML) standard, revealed that Microsoft Office 2007 documents do not meet the latest specifications of the ISO OOXML draft standard... More at Groklaw.

  15. You are having problems using a piece of hardware - that doesn't necessarily mean the hardware is at fault; it's just how we organise the forum... :)
  16. There is a 64bit version - on this Japanese mirror, for instance. :)
  17. When you've been here a bit longer, you may become a mod or admin, then you can decide where topics belong. I don't see how creating a dustbin forum (General Questions) would solve anything - you would still have to define what went there, and if it was just doubtful topics, they would still have to be moved to the right forum. Threatening to go to another forum doesn't have much effect, I'm afraid - and whether a topic is answered before or after it's moved, is neither here nor there. Slagging off the forum when you've recently arrived, is not the best way to make friends, but as you can see, our members are quite tolerant.
