Is there an on-access virus scan package in mandrivalinux 10.2. I feel such on-access antivir and spyware-like programs are very needed nowdays. Of course the linux folks would say there is no need to install such progs in linux. I have updated my mdk 10.2 from cooker. Every thing goes fine, and kde hase been updated to 3.4.0-22. This is the first time I feel cooker becomes the dynamic "Official Update". Waiting for greatest upcoming mandrake + Conectiva package on fall. Fahd

Really it is very odd to hear your audio cd under amarok, but there is not sound at all under kscd. How can I tell the system to play audio-cd with amarok as soon as I insert the audio cd. I tried to achieve this using KCONTROL. But the system is still assigning KSCD to play audio cd. Mandrivalinux 10.2 is the system. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Really it is very weired, that mdk soft will release mandrake linux Limited Edition without kde 3.4. If this is the case, this means that kde 3.4x will be packed in the next versionn fall. Here agin we find it very difficult to guess why mandrakesoft does not make every thing as easy as mdklinux fans need and hope. Besides, there is the poor mcc utility. i feel mdkosft does not take care of her fan all over the world. How can we as mdk linux users edit sysconfig (/etc/sysconf) within mcc (Mandrake Control Center). Unfortunately, Mandrake linux mcc contains less system tools than its counterpart suse. Hopefully, mandrake Soft will make a goog stuff in mcc. Thanks. Fahd

I meet alike problems on diffirent chipset pc, unfortunately mandrake linux can only be install and start up on a lot of pc-es, but not on every pc(du to kernel and kernel modules). I have already mentioned this problem on my messages, sent to mdk linux expert. It seems mdk linux will never recover this drawback. MS-Windows is neither stable nor reliable, but it STARTS UP on every intel-colony pc. Be patient. Fahd

Really mandrakelinux is the most easy-to-install and easy-to-use in the linux distro era. I have been using linux for 9 years. I tried the all existed linux distros, from debian, redhat, slackware, suse to my favourite distro Mandrake Linux. Just look back and around, you find that redhat and suse made a big mistake. Redhat abandoned it's devilopment and created a community version, named Fedora. The community means that developers are working in part-time. Since they have not enough income, they will not be content to spend a lot of time to improve a linux product, therefore there will not be good stuff. The linux fans all over the world are eager to use such "charge-free" linux, but not always the "charge-free" product means the high quility product. Just think of it , the FOSS (Free Open Source Software) means that you can feel free to use linux-based OS and even linux apps. You are no more facing the charge of software theft, reading a lot of pages of "End User License Agreements" or alike. Really FOSS means freedom. So that I feel Fedora is not the best solution even for the poor people, who can not pay more money, after spending at least 800 us $.. for a pc. I have installed fedora FC3 four times on my computer (iD925XCV chip set), and lastly I deleted it, cause it was so poor. SuSE linux is the another story. SuSE has not provided the world 's poor people (who have only 800 us $ or so) with a free version excluding the technical suupport. It is pure commercial product, with no sense to make linux a popular OS wholethe world. SuSE has realtively made a good job, especially for home users. Unfortunately all these things seem to evaporate, since it has been bought by Novell. My first feeling was that, Novell is a giant company which is aiming to acquire a big part in the software market . It does not care of us as above mentioned poor linux fans. Thus we are not expecting a lot from microsoft-like company who is focusing on enterprise environments with a thousands of license agreements, and be a Novell strategy obliged linux user. Is this the FOSS basic principle? It is not matter to make profit from suse linux, but this will be focused strongly on supporting existed Novell systems. Step by step you will not be able to buy this product because simply it will be expensive and strongly license dependent, in other words maybe another microsoft empire. In fine, Mandrake linux becomes the simplest and strongest world-community beloved linux distro, in spite of its drawbacks. Whenever I install, use and delete it I return back to it. This means that it is still the most greatest and cheapest linux product I have ever seen yet. One thing should be taken in consideration: DON'T ALLOW TO SELL MANDRAKESOFT AS happened with suse. Mdk Linux 10.2 beta 1 and 2 still hangs when "Onboard Audio Enabled". You can solve this problem when "Onboard Audio Disabled". This happens with me: I have an id925xcv chipset intel motherboard. Neighter mdk linux 10.1 nor 10.2 betas could solve my with the above mentioned problem. Mandrake linux 10.x failed to handle the ethernet and audio issues, since these items handled by intel id925xcv chip set. I wager neighter Mandrake nor SuSE will solve this in half year. It seems linux fans SHOULD season to this syndrome. When people plug in usb pendrive, we immediately can use it (under ms-windows), without any intervention to modify fstab file. These things should be taken in consideration. Linux distros have to develope linux to do support for almost CHIPSETs. This is the bottleneck in linux world. Besides, we always encounter the incompatible things when install a program, the dependencies. SuSE and Mandrake distros are STILL behind Gates. More and more hard job. Have a good luck. I have bought intel motherboard, with intel prescott 3.0 GHz proccessor and D925xcv chipset. The system could not recognize neighter sound controller, nor ethernet card. I think this is because the kernel does not support intel D925xcv chipset. Please help. Thank You. Dubish Fahd registered user.

mdk linux 10.1 comm. version does not support sata hdd drives. It is very shame.

I tried mdk 10.1 comm. version. Unfortunately it does not support sata drives (i875 chipset). Really it is very weird, that sata drives have been existing 1 year ago in the pc market, but no support for this standard in eighter linux distro. It seems , that we have to take in consideration that, there is an IT gap between microsft and linux world. One of them correctly handles the various pc-related standards, the other does the same thing few years later. This is why the community can not apply it in the public services, self-governments, municipals etc. I would like to recommend the next for Mandrakesoft : Develope Mandrake linux more seriously. Push this relativly cheap fantastic product to the real community all over the world, and sell it for only 40 us $. People are disposed to buy such cheap and useful product, than geting a half, fully-buggy product, for free charge. The above mentioned 40 us $ is reasonable by linux fans. Especially if Mandrakesoft will release new version every 18 months, not 6 months as it is happened now days. I like mdklinux, BUT it still does not handle usb pendrives. Windows xp does correctly handle usb pendrives since 2001. Really it is very weird in linux world. Linux kernel is strong enough and more dependable than windows. Unfortunately linux is not 100% applicable in desktop world as windows. Any body can prove if this is not the truth!! Linux fans should wait a lot of years to get an useful and applicable DESKTOP ops. We often say here, that mandrakelinux is the only linux distro who takes care of the community, that is correct. Mandrakesoft has done a good job developing mandrake linux for the folks all over the world, but something is missing there. Mandrake soft has urgently to make a serious development forgetting such rapid development (mdk 9.x, mdk 10.x etc.). No doubt that mdk linux is the best linux distro, but has a lot to do. My best regards to mdk soft.

Hi mdklinux developers. No doubt that I like mdk linux, BUT. Mandrakesoft did not make a serious developement in mdklinux products since mdklinux 9.0, Why? I have been using mdklinux and suselinux for more than 4 years. Do you know why? Because both linux distros are good enough and end-user friendly package. I always discover more and more differences between these tow distros. I have found that mandrake linux only release new versions of linux including new versions of KDE and GNOME. The same issue hapens with suse linux. The major difference between the tow linux leaders are described here: YAST2 is very good system management tool given to linux fans. On the othrer side, mcc (mandrake control center) is very weak and not considerable, does not include every thing you need (just take a look on YAST2). Suselinux does include an on-line update option, mdk does not. Really it is very important to keep your system updated and secure, is not it? Mandrakelinux is correctly manipulating the multi-ops disks unlike suselinux. Mandrakelinux is correctly handling most usb scanners than suselinux. Linuxshield is runinng very smartly under mandrakelinux. On suselinux you always get an error message. Here in Hungary we get a relatively humble technical support from the local hungarian suselinux team??!!Anyway it is better than nothing.Will mandrakesoft make the same goal, providing us with a local mandrakelinux-team. This is very relevant. In spite of all these drawbacks, MANDRAKELINUX is still the unique linux distro all over the world (with fedora), that provide us this magnificent linux product and really worths compliments. I could not burn these isos files (3 isos files) using NERO. It always notes that there is not enough disk space on 700 MB disk. It is very weird. Thanks. Fahd

I have downloaded the iso files of mdk10 (cd1, cd2 and cd3). Unfortunately, Nero cd-burner always says that, there is not enough space on the disk (700 MB). Whether what is the problem? Thanks. Fahdl

There is a lot to do for linux distros. Not only making linux installation easier and smart but really making it a good stuff for all the people all over the world. I wish they will aim to put it in the proper place. It is not disputed that linux is the best os the folk ever seen, but we should provide the distros with a good remarks. Never make the same mistake as microsoft did with its products. IBM os/2 is more best than microsoft os, but microsoft has removed it from the market using its gaint financial background. They can not reach the same goal with linux, since linux has not a fixed country or even firm. I am very optimist and feel that the the day will come soon to see linux on the hill (may be another free source code os will be on the horizon after a few years). Fahd

Try to use nero cd-burner, because I burned both mdk 10 beta2 iso images. It went fine. It is another issue that beta2 is hanged when lilo started up. So it is very BETA. Good luck.

Really I'm astonished what is Mandrakesoft policy. All the versions (including BETA1, BETA2, ..etc.) are weak in spite that I was a Mandrake fan. It was a difficult moment for me to decide what is my policy. What do I want from linux distros? A dependable, flexible, useful and more and more device drivers supporting. People here in Hungary, I mean linux fans are not kidding when they say: Linux distros are not serious and really have not any idea how to make linux the no. one desktop os. The same people are disposed to invest their money in good enough linux package. But it seems the linux fans all over the world should wait for the no. one distro who provides us with a serious technical support, a stable installation package, no matter what intel colony motherboard and chip sets your computer include, it just should be i386, or other micro proccessor based linux. May Mandrake be the no. ONE LINUX DISTRO? I doubt it ( at least this moment). Thank you.

I have the same problem. I have an intel 3.2 Ghz. processor ASUS motherboard with i875p chipset (north bridge), and onboard intel pro 1000 (82547EI) controller, add-on-card ati radeon 9600 pro. Beleave it or not SuSE 9.0 had hang up !! MDK 9.2 did not recognize neighter intel ethernet card/1000 (gigabit) nor ati radeon 9600 pro. I have downloaded the both software drivers (linux distro independent drivers) but hopeless. This is the Linux famous Distros. I Microsoft world there is a unique Distro, the old and less relaible Microsoft. But what about linux Distros???? Just think of it .....!!!! More and more software drivers support. 6 years is gap between Microsoft windows products (1985 with IBM) and Linux (Linus Torvalds, 1991). Should linux fans wait 6 years to get a proper linux product (bug free), more times a month giving updates. Really what is going there. Mdk 9.x, mdk 10 beta1 and ecetra. I have to to be more serious to cretesize Mandrake in order to make a relatively perfect product NOT product for uninterested people. More energy and good management. Dubish Fahd
