  1. If you use GNOME, you can also use soundjuicer to do it. You can easily extract the tracks in FLAC format (lossless compression) or OGG vorbis (lossy, CD quality). It's the simplest software to use in the world. It could previously (Mandrake 10.1) extract also to mp3, but I don't know how to do it now (Mandriva 2005 LE). <googling>Ok, it seems the instructions to encode in mp3 were here, but i can't reach the website: http://www.emcken.dk/weblog/archives/99-MP...und-Juicer.html </googling>Don't forget that ogg quality is better, but not every brand of MP3 player can read OGG files. But as it's an open format, you're sure you will always be able to read it.
  2. tried this today, doesn't work.... i'm desperated...
  3. 1) didn't work, still the same output. I removed it with rpm -e --nodeps urpmi 2) had no problem with my filesystem for a long time... I think some urpmi files "lock" the way it knows if it is installed or not, by i don't know wich files urpmi uses... any idea ?
  4. As I expected, it doesn't work... The problem is with urpmi, not rpm... it's poiintless to tell rpm to uninstall something it knows it's not installed... Thanks for the try, anyway... Any other ideas ?
  5. Hi everyone... Already submitted this in a few places, but had no response : you're my last chance Hope this time someone finds the solution... The problem : I use mdk10.1 official with all updates... There are many packages I can't install... urpmi tells me they're already there, rpm tells they're not. I've even rebuilt my rpm base with rpm --rebuilddb, but it didn't resolved the problem... So please, if you can give me a hand on this, i would be very grateful... He'res an example with libgtk+2.0_0-devel, but i also have the problem when trying to install anjuta [root@localhost luis]# urpmi libgtk+2.0_0-devel Everything is already installed [root@localhost luis]# rpm -q libgtk+2.0_0-devel The package libgtk 2.0_0-devel is not installed [root@localhost root]# rpm -qa | grep libgtk+ libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-2.4.9-9mdk libgtk+1.2-1.2.10-40mdk libgtk+2.0_0-2.4.9-9mdk libgtk+1.2-devel-1.2.10-40mdk [root@localhost root]# urpmf gtkversion.h libgtk+2.0_0-devel:/usr/include/gtk-2.0/gtk/gtkversion.h [root@localhost root]# ls /usr/include/gtk-2.0/ gdk-pixbuf/ gdk-pixbuf-xlib/ As you can see, I even do not have a the /usr/include/gtk-2.0/gtk/ directory, so this is an urpmi problem... but i don't know how to tell him he's wrong... Is there some kind of files that give him a "memory" of what is installed and what is not, that would cause it not to check what rpm says ? Thanks for your help, i'm deperate...
  6. I was not looking for something special, but even if i knew that this website had little update, I sometimes get back there just to see if something had improved... I found that strange that all this information had disapeared that way, with no mention about it either on the club or on mandraklinux.com Could you please tell me where exacly these pages have been mirrored ? Thanks in advance !
  7. mandrakeuser.org (not "mandrakeusers") has disapeared... it now redirects to the mandrakeclub... anyone knows what happened ?
  8. Hi everyone, You will find Mandrake 10.0 Official Edition ISOs on the proxad server and on the club-internet server. The torrent file is also available here Though, the torrent is still of poor quality, since ISO's availability has not been announced on Mandrakesoft's website (they'll do it tomorrow, I think). Torrent's quality will improve tomorrow, when more people will start using it. And remember to keep your bittorrent client running after having completed the download, to help spreading the files faster ! Happy download
  9. tyme, Mandrake isos have just been released today... You can find them on this ftp and find the torrent here Though, the torrent is still of poor quality, since its availability has not been announced on Mandrakesoft's website. I think it will improve tomorrow. Have a nice download

  12. I've done a full update 3 days ago, no changes... A friend of mine suggested me that I could try recording through the "line in" input, to see if the problem is with the microphone input... Will try this tonight.
  13. Hi everyone ! Here's my problem : I wanted to use gnomemeeting, and installed it (V1.0.2), but I have a problem at the sound setting in the wizard. It tells me ALSA is prefered if available, but i'm only proposed OSS and Quicknet, but no ALSA ! Ok, I tried OSS, even knowing I use the ALSA driver, just to see if it woks. What happens during the sound test, is that I can talk in the microphone, hear myself in the headphones when talking, but I don't hear mylself 4 seconds after as is the test ! I've investigated, and it seem that I can't record the microphone sound. Here's what I have done to find the problem cause : 1. I've checked my ALSA config - The alsa service is running - The sound card (sound blaster 128) is detected and the snd-ens1370 driver is used (it's an ALSA driver, the OSS one is ens1370) My modprobe.conf file (i'm running kernel 2.6.3-7) alias agpgart intel-agp alias sound-slot-0 snd-ens1370 options bttv radio=0 card=39 gbuffers=6 alias eth0 8139too install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe usb-storage; /bin/true install snd-ens1370 /sbin/modprobe --first-time --ignore-install snd-ens1370 && { /sbin/modprobe snd-pcm-oss; /bin/true; } install usb-interface /sbin/modprobe usb-uhci; /bin/true remove snd-ens1370 { /sbin/modprobe -r snd-pcm-oss; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --first-time --ignore-remove snd-ens1370 2. I've checked the write rights on the peripheral : [luis@liberforce luis]$ ll /dev/dsp lr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 9 mai 13 23:17 /dev/dsp -> sound/dsp [luis@liberforce luis]$ ll /dev/sound/dsp crw-rw---- 1 luis audio 14, 3 jan 1 1970 /dev/sound/dsp I'm the owner and have write access on /dev/sound/dsp, so it seems ok.... 3. I've tried to record myself using gnome-sound-recorder, but this one hangs when I click the "record" button, and I can't record anything ! [luis@liberforce luis]$ gnome-sound-recorder GConf audio sink not found, using osssink ** (gnome-sound-recorder:17684): WARNING **: Unrecoverable syntax error while parsing pipeline DEBUG: gstgconf: error parsing pipeline (null) ! audioconvert ! audio/x-raw-int,rate=22050,channels=1 ! wavenc name=enc pas d'element "null" ** ERROR **: Could not construct pipeline aborting... Aborted (core dumped) Now, I don't know where to look !!!!! It seems I have 2 problems : I can't record myself, and I can't have Gnomemeeting see that i'm using alsa, I don't know if the two problems are related. Here is my configuration : - Mandrake 10.1 (cooker) - Kernel 2.6.3-7 - Gnome 2.6 - Soundcard Soundblaster 128 If someone could help me, I woul be very grateful Thanks in advance !
  14. Just give a look to the mp3/ogg howto on : http://www.mp3-howto.com/mp3-howto-9.html
  15. That's the idea : all your windows retain their appearance. You can though open a window an close its parent at the same time to avoid having too many windows displayed, using shift+left-double-click, or double-middle-click. You also have a button on the low-left corner : with the name of the directory. Click on it an you will have a list that allows you to open any parent window easily. There's also a menu that allows to close all the parents of the current window, to clean things. And finally the CTRL + L shortcut displays a popup to enter a path to open. I always hated the explorer-like "browsing view", its sooo inconvenient to copy or move files (especially across a network). New nautilus is really powerful, once given a little habit, and gives a very intuitive and clean interface for newbies. Now with spatial nautilus, I feel happy again ! :D
