Hi everybody there ... It is impossible to resize the kde 4.4 desktop icons. The resized icons still active until you logout. When you relogin, the icons on the desktop go to the default small icons, simply they do not retain the customised icon size. Any help. Thanks. Hi folks! Any help is acceptable. I changed my ati x300 video card to ati x1650, but unfortunately neighter mandy 2007, nor mandy spring rc3 could recognise the device correctly. I was forced to select xorgt:vesa driver settings in order to use xserver(GUI). I also downloaded the ati driver from ATI website, but unfortunately I got the same results. Of course i use windows as a reference point which may come in handy in such cases. It works very well (of course with appropriate windows drivers). I am frustrated due this ati x1650 driver lack. I wonder why Mandriva sells it's products (e.g. mandy 2007 and 2007.1) within the same versions instead of releasing them in service Pack forms. Selling for instance Mandriva Linux 2007 Powerpack Download version for almost 70-EUR is very cheap. If I were a manger in Mandriva Linux dept. I would have vended it for 150-EUR. However I would provide the official customers with updated versions in service Packs forms without any charge. Cause it is not fair to make any minor modifications and vend it of course for not a little charge. Just make a reasonable vend policy, not to monopolize the folks. The people all over the world have been using Windows XP for almost 6 years (for aprox. 200 US $), without any additional fees. If we compare this situation with Mandriva Linux and other Linux distros price policy, we would draw this conclusion: Linux is not as cheap as we guess. Return back to the above mentioned instance: Mandriva sells you the powerpack version for almost 80-EUR/half-year. This means that you would pay 800-EUR during 5 years. It is very expensive, ain't it? All of us know what is the difference between the two worlds, Linux and Microsoft Windows. Of course for me Linux is more massive and dynamic stuff, but we should take in consideration that money may be paid for products to be used in everywhere, not for not final releases. It is not same to talk frankly about drawbaks of price policy. We all as mandriva Linux advocators really appreciate the code weavers work at Mandriva (developers), howevers I reckon that the Management at Mandriva has gone in the incorrect way. Unfortunately mandy 2007 does handle the floppy drive correctly. When i insert a floppy disk the supermount mount it in /mnt/floppyx, where x is a number from 1 to unlimited number. In the past mandrake had a good job in automatic mount, especially for the floppy drives. What we need is to acheive our goal and get the mount floppy disk in /mn/floppy. fstab contains the following: none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,umask=0022,iocharset=iso8859-2,sync,codepage=852 0 0 Any help. is a wrong statement. Of course there were political disputes (name it: money), but the main reason why it got delayed was/is e.g. the fixing needed for Xorg and the graphical installer. They are squashing out the last 80 bugs that they deem release-critical for a stable release. And stable means in this case "rock-stable", not "pretty stable". 2) The same thing applies for Mandriva. Although there are problems with Mandriva as a company, its distro cannot be THAT inferior to PCLinuxOS, which - again - is based off Mandriva linux. And Mandriva being irrelevant is nonsense. 3) Fedora is not a beta-distribution, as he claims, but a bleeding-edge distribution with a focus on new technology. It is VERY rare that they ship any beta-versions of applications. But then, new technology is always beta for some people before it becomes mainstream. ;) 4) Linspire and Xandros on the rise: Where? Show me the facts, please. :huh: At least not in Germany or Spain or Austria or .... Hardly anyone uses it outside of the US, I guess. I know a lot more people using Arch, Gentoo, Debian or Slackware, even BSD (!) in Europe than I know of people using Linspire or Xandros. :P I agree with you in every word. I personally gave pc-linux, linspire and xandros distros a try, and i was disappointed in every manner. Linspire did not recognize my ethernet card, besides it modified the master-boot record for the my 3 harddisks. Xandros did not support the hungarian language, and adsl related issues were found. PC-linux is another lie in linux world. It does not worth to talk about. So Mandriva linux is the only beloved linux distro among the others, despite that there are a lot of things that should be taken in consideration by the company. Thanks. Fahd

Hi folks! I mhave realized that i can not delete a file copied from windows xp partition. The owner and the group of that file is the same as the name of the owner (it is me). Suppose the name of this file is filename and the owner is called linuxuser. So when i type in the command ls , i get the following info: r-x r-x r-x filename linuxusrer linuxuser However i can not erase this file until i switch to root (su). Is it a bug or something else. Hi guys! In Mandriva linux there is a waz to set the network connection type: MODEM, DSL, ETHERNET, etc. In Ulteo there is no way to find such connection. Simply because the developers have not thought of the need of DSL. Really it is very weird. Ulteo is still at the beginning of long long time dev. Have a look on microsoft VISTA. It has been deveeloped it for more than 5 years. It will be released in more editions (Home basic, Home prem,Business and Ultimate). Just ask your self, how many people need it all over the world? It is very difficult to get the correct answer. But I am sure that more folk will try to obtain at least one edition to give it a try. That people have already given a try for various linux distros. Unfortunately they always return back to the old, hag Desktop-OS king, Microsoft Windows. We know very well (i am especially convinced) that the servers marketplace is owned by Unix (Linux, FreeBSD). It is very good. But what about the Desktop OS? What a huge mess in Linux world!! Just look how many linux distros are out there. We surely all like the freedom of using softwares. You have the full choice to choose a linux distro you like. All of them strive to make somehow better solutions in favour of their linux supporters (fans). Neither distro has not yet made the promised great Linux Desktop OS. No doubt that the present linux is more user-friendly than it was in the past. Once the folk were allured to linux from ....They will go home and begin using their favourite Desktop-OS. Do not forget, linux is not more a dream (leastwise now). It is a good concept waiting for seasoned developers to make it (exploit) a real Desktop product. Hopefully, once our children or maybe grand children will find the real one. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Hi folks! Mandy 2007 installation says that "NO CD-ROM FfOUND", in spite of that I boot ftrom cd-rom containing mandy 2007 installation cd-rom. I continued the installtion from mandy.iso (mandy 2007 free) which was located on another hard disk. Of course when I chose windows xp from the another hard disk, xp recognised that dvd-rom, which the mandy failed to did. Any help please. Fahd
