My Story with OpenSuSE 10.2 I have been suffering for 3 days adjusting, editing OpenSuSE 10.2, of course hopelessly. As usual I knew very well that Novell and it's community will never make a good stuff for the Germeny-based (originally SuSE) product. Since Novell's real goal (as I guess ) is to support it's ZenWorks and the other NetWare products, but not to deploy SuSE. However, linux beginners may try Mandriva Linux, cause it is the only real linux distro which strives the ease-of-use and making the stuff usable. I have been using linux since 1997, and I admit that I have never and ever seen an easy linux distro (especially for new bies) as Mandrake (Mandriva) Linux. I should add this remark, that Mandriva does not support the new chipsets as the other distros, but they make a less bleeding-edge stuff comparing with others (SuSE). In general, as I have already mentioned in previous post, Mandriva Linux 2007 has made big disappointment for me when I could not install it on 4 computers containing i945GNT chipsets at our office. However I could install Mandy 2007 on the other computers (i865 chipsets). My colleagues are fully contented with it. Of course there are a lot of things that might have taken in consideration. At least I need not to set the grub (menu.lst), the PolicyKit, ulimit, fstab and dozen of settings to make SuSE usable. The time has come to let people know that money is not enough to give us a good stuff. Community-based products are all bad. The money and the good management (of course a full-time seasoned dev. group is definitely required) is the main key of the success.Feeling responsibility is a good thing, but taking it is very difficult. Keep in mind that pay money for usable product is a natural thing. We should respect the work of dev. engineers. These people will never be a rich ones, but they wanna give you a less bleeding-edge stuff. Hence we pay for a good job. The community-based product idea is a big lie. Cause there is no responsibility, no full-time work, no money. The inspire to write codes is needed in such area, but not enough to make it vendible. Good luck for Mandriva Linux. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Again the Mandriva2007. When i set mcc to login in kde (runlevel 5) the monitor begins flickering. But when i set the system to run in level 3, and then run the script startxit runs well and i can login in kde without any previously mentioned issue. It seems it is the TIME to give a try to another linux distro. It does not worth to spend 3 days in installation mandy 2007 on modern motherboards. Thanks again. Fahd

No. Simply the monitor goes black and the system hangs. If I try to connect to any term(Ctrl+Alt+F1..F6), nothing happens. I have read that, intel has issued a driver for i945gnt for Mandriva Linux 2007. I downloaded it (an ISO file) and began installing it. Unfortunately it notified that X-Srerver does not run (that is why I downloaded it). I also quested after this issue in mandriva homepage. It was a big astonishing: Mandriva affirm that the actual Kernel of mandy 2007 (2.6.17-5) supports these intel motherboards (i945g..). I doubt this. Any way I say: This is the Linux world, in which You should be careful of spending your money. In other words you buy a car and learn how to redesign it in order to be usable and take your family for a picnic. Should your family wait for you 1, 2 or even a lot of years to complete the car-redesign? Staggerer.

Hi folks! We bought i945gnt chipset motherboards, and I tried to install mandy 2007 on it. MCC recognizes the video controller as i945, but it still does not work, namely the system hangs. Please tell me how to solve this issue? Thanks a lot. Fahd

I ordered Mandriva Linux 2007 Powerpack+ DVD Only Version from a Hungarian software store in oct. 10(a few weeks later I did the same thing with another Software vendors here in Budapest of courde with the same resault)At the same day I got a fax telling me that they would ship the product within 3 or 6 weeks. Today they called me, they can not deliver the product cause Mandriva Soft seems not to find a great market here in Hungary. Really I am very sad of this mentality. I have been using Mandriva(mandrake) for 6 years. besides we often buy mandriva products in order to donate the firm in making a good stuff. Do we as Mandriva advocates deserve this? Hungarian population is more than 10 million. Is it worth to spread Mandriva Linux here? Do not forget the basics of the FOSS. Thanks a lot from Budapest. Fahd

Asus motherboard(P5L-MX with intel 945G chipset). When I try to set the ethernet card, I often get the following message: No device can be found for this connection type. When I look in Hardware tab(within mcc), I see the: L1 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Is there any clue? Thanks a lot. Fahd

I agree with you in: Using Fedora makes me realise why I like Mandriva so much. I have found that, Mandriva linux is the relatively wide acceptable linux distro among users in Public Services and self-gov.. I essence it is very simple and clear (of course not flawless)in both Installation and Use manners. The average PC users world wide are not IT prof.s. Simply they want to use some apps on home or office computers. Believe me they are the majority. So it is unwise to neglect them, especially if we want to allure them to the Linux world.Thanks. Fahd

It aeems that mandy 2007 (free version) does not support motherboards shipped with i945G cipsets. Does it mean that we(mandy fans) should get rid of such motherboards? Hopefully this is not acceptable from mandy engineers. It is wise to give us a practical solution. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Believe it or not, after 2 or 3 minutes my apps get starting in mandriva 2007 under KDE. So when I see the process table everything seems to be ok(start_kdeinit, kwin, kdeinit, ..etc). My motherboard is ASUS(intel 865 chipset). I think this flaw is a video controller-related. Please help hoe to solve this problem. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Really this version of mandy 2007, i mean rc1 is very nice and really a 21 th. centuary linux production. Hopefully more wifi driver-support will be offered by Mandriva. Go on. Mandriva Linux distro is the best among the other dotens of linux distros. It stives to make our life with linux as easy as breathing.It worths to give it a try, sorry to USE it. I propose it for win users who try to be lured to Linux fantastic world. Do not hesitate folks. It is not VISTA RC1. It is more than a history. Believe me, I have given all the other linux distros a try, but always return back to my beloved distro, Mandriva. This is not a compliment. For me it is the truth. Hi guys! Using rpmdrake it is easy to install cooker packages. Just copy all cooker packages into cooker directory (/root/cooker), and tell rpmdrake where is the synthesis.hdlist.cz (list file), and everything would go nicely. How can I reach the same goal using the command line rpm? When I give the command: cd /root/cooker rpm -Fvh kdebase Nothing happens, since rpm does not know where the dependency list(synthesis.hdlist.cz) is located(/root/cooker/media_info/). Again and again I often return back to my beloved Mandriva linux 2006, after giving a try to diffirent linux distros. The last week as usual I tried openSUSE Linux 10.1 RC1, I realised that suse still has not solved the DSL problem. Mainly as I mentioned in previous posts after a lot of hours in solving dsl connection, I solved (at least I think so) the problem in a weird ways. Often giving the command: ifup dsl0. Really I do not like to talk about this stupid thing and aothers. Just think of it. Novell acquired SuSE Linux 2 years ago (if i am not mistaken), and put a hard finance support into suse (comparing to mandriva humble one), and what is the resault: a bleeding edge product called open suse linux. Guys what do you think? Is the money the only enough criteria in the projects? Of course NOT. The above mentioned criteria is definitely required, but as we see in Linux and Microsoft world where the good organised projects lead to rock and solid stuff. Microsoft spends million of dollars in vulnerable and insecure projects. It seems that Novell tracks the same thing. I have not mentioned what Mandriva Linux version I use. Both the Mandriva Linux 2006. official and the cooker one. Believe it or not both ones work fine. My Cooker one includes KDE 3.5.2. Naturally Mandriva Linux is buggy as the other linux distros, but in general it is the best Linux distro I have ever and never seen up to now. That is why I always go back to my adored Mandriva Linux after sepending and wasing my time (on expense of my family) giving a try probing a lot of Linux distros (Fedora, Ubuntu, SuSE, UHU, PCLinux ..etc.). The essence of this reply is to emphysize that Mandriva Linux is still the most friendly-user linux distro though the drawbacks you have already mentioned. I have given a try for Fedora 5 and OpenSuSE Beta 9. Fedora had failed to be a Linux Desktop OS. It is merely a good stuff. My second favourite linux distro, OpenSuSE justified to be a good linux stuff with up-to-date linux packages as well. So what is the problem with opensuse beta 9(RC1). Whenever i test opensuse beta x, i find that it is very difficult to set adsl network settings. In both Mandriva and Fedora you choose a network connection say adsl, type in the ISP name, your user account and the connection goes established. OpenSuSE Beta 9, as the previous versions does not play avi, wmv and mp3 video and audio files. In spite that i downloaded mplyaer and the requied rpm files from Packman website, and installed them i still find dependency problems. Simply Open SuSE Beta 9 has a very good eye-candy, KDE env., with the most up-to-date kernel ver.(2.6.16) but unfortunately is not a real competitive with MsWindows. After a lot of days with probing and experiencing opensuse beta x and fedora i return back to my favourite and adored linux distro, Mandriva. Eventually i hope that Mandriva Linux management will take our considerations seriously as Mandriva Linux advocates and fans. Just keep in mind that folks who used to use MsWin in thier everyday life would never be allured to Linux as long as Linux distros do not respect and serve them. This weird konqueror error happens after using crossweaver, I mean installing windows-based application. So what is the relationship between konqueror and codeweaver's product, crossover. This happens only once, as I have already mentioned above. Thanks a lot. Fahd

Simply konqueror does not run when click the konqueror icon( or trying to run it from within a console).
