Welcome IcoBgr, and good evening Sofia! Because you got no answer yet, I'll try though I am quite new with Linux. You might want to try: - unplug your scanner - in the MCC, software installation, search for sane xsane -install the packages from your CD's Shut down your PC. Connect your scanner. Start your Computer. When you are in KDE or Gnome wait ca. 30 seconds or a minute. A new icon should be automatically created on the desktop. If nothing happens, try again in MCC - the scanner configuration. If it does not work, please post again - someone else here will guide you. When it works, post it also. Good luck!

I've found that this is a problem of the Mandrake KDE configuration - (MDK 9.1 - KDE 3.1, possibly solved with KDE 3.1.3, I don't know and maybe in 9.2). Ranger made a fix for this, I had to replace the two files: kio_smb.so kio_smb.la with the changed Ranger files, which can be downloaded here: http://ranger.dnsalias.com/mandrake/9.1/ Now smb:// works with my kde version. Writing this for those of us who don't plan to upgrade their system to a newer KDE version or to 9.2 ... --anna

As some of you might know, I made/changed some wallpapers for the MUB birthday party, adding text to a wallpaper. Mystified asked if I can post here a short how to. No problem, I thought until I realized that I am using a German version of The Gimp - so all menu's and stuff are in this language. You would not understand what I am talking about. And I don't know the English wording. Next step: I thought ok I am installing an english version. Lol. Could not figure out how. To make it short. I ended up compiling and installing the newest Gimp devel release, 1.3.20. Almost everything rel. working with text has changed now. It's absolutely fantastic, almost all fonts are working, adding a text to an image is very easy now, with script-fu or without. A 'vague' way how I did it with Gimp 1.25 (and 1.3.12) was: -open the wallpaper -open the layer dock -create with script-fu a logo, delete the first white background layer here, then merge all visible layers -drag the text image (from the layers window) to the open window with your wallpaper. You can select an area on the wp image before you do this. Adding an icon or a small image to a wp: drag and drop from the layers window to the wallpaper window. Please ask, if you need help.

I am using Konqueror. Sometimes Nautilus for a quick access to smb shares, which does not work in KDE. Today I remembered that I heard of a file manager Win Explorer like, lol. xfe - I could not find a mandrake rpm. And because I am willing to learn compiling stuff and building rpm's, I downloaded the sources of xfe-0.54 blabla. Compiled, and made a rpm with checkinstall. But please: I made the rpm for fun and for learning - not because I think xfe is great.

The only question left is: In Opera and Mozilla (with the standard fonts settings) your main text, not the titles, is displayed on my system in 'serif' - it that your intention? When I change the font settings manually in the browsers then I get, of course, the chosen font, f.e. sans serif. When I am back home I'll take a look at your css. It's my way of learning.

If I am not mistaken, a KDE 'theme' is a bundle of -color-themes -styles -window decoration -backgrounds -icons - and more ... In the KDE Control Centre you can combine all these. In a standard installation of MDK the basic kdeartwork package from the cd is not installed. This was my first step. Afterwards I searched at texstar and plf for packages which are named like: kdeartwork kdemoreartwork color-schemes wallpaper styles A lot of iconsets can be found on kde-look.org And you may want to look at the MyDesktop thread here on the board (Off Topic). If you find a nice desktop - ask the owner :shock: , as I did: how did you do it? Good luck!

Lol, tyme, I did that - and the cat was sitting on the very top left. The trick was: changing the 99% to 98%. So your thoughts gave me the direction where to look. Thing is, that I wanted the cat sitting on the very bottom of the browser window - now there is some space. Ok, but I am happy with it. I guess scoopys suggestion to give some more space to the image would have done the same. Thanks to you both, problem solved! :lol:

You'll find on the cooker mailing list that this is possibly a bug in the RC1 release (still testing!): http://archives.mandrakelinux.com/cooker/2...03-09/thrd2.php bug 4495 and bug 5012 Before changing to RH I would wait and try the final 9.2. release. Sorry that I can't help you more.

Assuming that - your boot.ini is ok - your lilo.config is ok i would first take a look at the partition table, try the Linux way: # cfdisk -P /dev/hda (you might want to change the partition flag) I guess your version of DOS/Partition Magic does not like NTFS. __________________ PM is evil

Yes, I can remember about problems with the multi card readers. But single card readers are almost not available anymore. I'd like to buy the reader at my local computer shop, nice folks there, I got all our LAN stuff stuff there. And they sell only Apacer readers. 17 Euros. They are known to work with SuSE (found it on an usb website with a big database ...) But you never know how mdk is doing. Anyway, thanks, Scoopy!

Scoopy, thanks for your feedback on Pixie. I looked at GQview. Nice features, indeed. But the look, hm. So I searched a bit - and found GThumb. Release 2.1.0 is in /contrib. Ok, now I am happy (without Pixie). - Renaming files (batch) - Converting files (batch) - scaling images (in the next version: resizing, batch - not yet packaged for mdk) - and TADA: creating web galleries with just lovely templates :D - and you can add new customized themes/templates. I need these 4 things to create very easily a web gallery, and it comes in one software. Background: since we got a digital camera, my partner wants me to set the pics on our website, for friends and family, and such a digi cam produces a lot of pic's, believe me :roll: Of course gthumb has more features, thumbnails, editing files, manipulating images ... Nice GUI too. Gnome 2.2. Next week I'll go looking for a card reader, so I don't have to boot Windows. Any suggestions? Is an Apacer 6 in 1 known as working with Mandrake 9.1?

PP does all this - and more. Three windows on the screen: folders (like konqueror) - thumbnails - preview. The thumbnails with a right-click menu to organize and edit the files... It's worth trying. If there was not this problem: mimetypes, so you can't convert images (also batch converting), I'd say: wonderful. If someone knows a solution for it, please let me know. I guess it's something in the kde control centre, editing mime types?

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that I found a VERY nice software for: - creating html web galleries - slideshows - thumbnails - editing fotos, alot of different effects - and more. It's PixiePlus 0.5.4 (KDE), packed for mandrake by a volunteer, you'll find the rpm in /contrib. I have not tested all features, but the web gallery is exactly what I was looking for: it comes with a few templates, which you can easily change, no need of html stuff knowledge. The effects and editing function are comparable with Paint Shop Pro. Take a look at the web site: http://www.mosfet.org/pixie/ There you'll find the one problematic point - because of the special KDE implementation in MDK, the mimetypes are broken, so the 'converting' of images doesn't work, at least not out of the box. And you can read that Mandrake does not package PixiePlus officially because 'they got no time'.And after installing, you have to run menudrake to get an entry in your menus ( an easy one). I am glad that I've found PP, because Kalbum was not very usefull for me. And I ran Windows to create easily a web gallery.
