  1. Hi Tony, For 9.2.: The ftp mirror structure for Mandrake changed, you'll get all the contrib stuff for 9.2 here: ftp://ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de/pub/Mirro....2/contrib/i586 incl. the kernel-tmb-2.4.22.21.tmb.1mdk-1-1mdk.i586.rpm For the cvs tarball - yes, not available for weeks now, dunno why. You have three options: - 'check out' the source files the normal cvs way, you have to install cvs for this on your pc. - Work with the (outdated, but working!) rpm, that is available at berlios.de. The berlios server is down at the moment, so I can't give you the URL now, just start at http://livecd.berlios.de and navigate to the sites, the rpm is under 'released files', similiar the cvs sources - Try the rpm I made for 10.0, see my former posting, part 3 My experience with kernel panic on my livecd's: it has always been the wrong kernel version! In 10.0 you do need the 2.6.3 -4 mdk (not the 7 !), and if you installed two kernel-versions then you have to point to the right kernel when building the cd: # mklivecd --kernel 2.6.3-4mdk --blala --blah my.iso (uname -r to see the kernel you are running) Good luck to you! I'll out of town for the next 3 weeks, and won't be able to help more :-C
  2. There is a kernel 2.6.5 for Mandrake 10.0 CE , here: ftp://ftp.pcds.ch/pub/people/rapsys/ - it's not an official kernel - it might work - or not ;-) - I am using this phoenix-kernel on MDK 10. CE (with all fixes, newer versions installed, but still CE) on a test installation. I had no problems so far. - if I remember well I've seen a person complaining that a phoenix kernel messed up a system completely ;-) Good luck! (would like to hear your result after installing, and if this kernel is a bit 'obscure' ...)
  3. I've added Part 3: mklivecd with Mandrake 10.0 CE to 'How to make your own Live CD' in Tips & Tricks: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...=0entry104408
  4. Part 3: mklivecd with Mandrake 10.0 CE Hard times for Mandrake LiveCD builders - the developer is MIA since weeks, the scripts are partially broken with 10.0 and Kernel 2.6.x. Here my temporary workaround. - A Mandrake 10.0 CE installation. Kernel: 2.6.3-4mdk (on CD 1) (different kernels like 2.6.3-7 or the tmb-kernels don't work for me!) - From 10.0 contrib you need: busybox, squashfs-tools, cloop-utils, libsmokeqt, Perl-QT, mediacheck. From CD 1 you need the file /Mandrake/mdkinst/usr/bin/perl-install/install_any.pm.gz, copy it over to: /usr/lib/libDrakX - I've changed the mklivecd scripts so that they are working for me. Had to replace the hwdetect with an older version, had to add a line in the livecd-install script. (Thanks to Ross Merlin from the livecd-users list) - The iso builds fine. When starting the CD there might be a few messages warning about already mounted partitions or about USB hubs - but in fact everything is working fine. Hardware which is not supported by 10.0 CE and his kernel 2.6.3-4mdk will probably not work. - The livecd-install has one problem: the option to format the partition where one want to install is broken. - Solution: format the desired partition before you start the script and uncheck 'format'. Then everything works. I made two install tests today. The created fstab is a bit weird - with supermount and a few not matching entries. But no big problem. - I've made a tar.gz including: (my) mklivecd-rpm, (my) livecd-install script (copy it to /usr/sbin), the file install_any.pm.gz, and all needed rpm's from contrib. It's 2,1 MB. You can get it here: http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/mdktest...t/10tuts.tar.gz --anna
  5. http://www.pclinuxonline.com/ I wonder what the fun part is to hack tex's site. Can't these kids do something useful with their talents?
  6. lol, Darkelve. Long ago that someone called me a girl ;-)
  7. Spinynorman made a readable text from the odd google translation: http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/raunen_en.htm Thank you very much!! I guess I kind of like this board and the members
  8. After some months of discovering Live CD's and making my own, I've written some personal remarks about my experiences: http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/raunen.htm In my first language only ;-) Here is a non-html google translation, have fun with it. Feedback appreciated :-)
  9. Hi Cannon, Isobuster under Windows could work, without paying http://www.isobuster.com Under Linux I am using 'mount-iso-image': http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?c...28da811e72073ee It's a neat and userfriendly konqueror servicemenu addon, right click on the iso file, action, mount iso! Works fine here with 10.0 CE. (When installing it, running ./install.sh, the script is looking for a /home/$user/.kde/apps/konqueror/servicemenus directory which is missing, i had to create the /servicemenus manually.) But I guess, this won't help you with your special iso file ...
  10. What about: "they say it's not a problem of the mbr in general, but in particular the part of the mbr called 'partition table'. Feeling better now, pmpatrick?
  11. Here are the steps that the Mandrake errata site suggests: _______________________________ Problem: Windows doesn't boot anymore after modifying partitions table Solutions (only temporary solutions) - Change disk access mode to "LBA" in the BIOS settings and reboot in windows should work - use a floppy disk from FreeDOS? (http://www.freedos.org/) and do a 'fdisk /mbr' and you should be able to boot again - 17 Mar 2004 _________________________________ http://qa.mandrakesoft.com/twiki/bin/view/...Main/Mandrake10 And I would add: - Make sure that the 'virus protection' or similiar in the bios is set to 'off' - one can also use a win98 boot disk and do a: fdisk /mbr - and/or using the Windows XP install disk to boot and do: fixmbr (and add. fixboot) I've seen so far 5 persons who could boot again after performing these steps, starting with the LBA setting! And they say it's not a 'mbr problem' but a corrupted partition table. I am writing this because more people who are installing 10 CE could still encounter this problem. - The OP aze obviously prefers to talk to 'guys only' and won't read my suggestions ;-)
  12. kfind? Never tried. But if think I've read about a bug in kfind, not sure. What i know for certain, there are at least 6 new versions of kde since the release of 10.0 CE. And almost every day more 'fixes' are showingup on the update mirrors, and the fixes are fixed again and again. For me it looks like a sort of 'normal' cooker proces, but I might be wrong. Ah, and my English isn't good either ;-)
  13. @!nkubus: Actually I had two (test)installations of 10.0 CE 1. urpmi --auto-select (via ftp) I guess that was an upgrade/update ;-) I deleted my .kde directory To my surprise: no problem, never did that before. 2. a fresh install on a different partition with the three cd's. Looks and behaves the same as 1. I am using No 1, No 2 was only for testing and is meanwhile overwritten by something else. That won't help you I fear. My hardware: p4 2 GHZ, MSI mainboard, nvidia gf460 mx, realtek nic onboard, c-media sound onboard, CRT Dell monitor, ps/2 mouse, ps/s keyboard. I don't use a seperate home partition ( I need a lot of partitions for my livecd testing stuff...)
  14. 10.0 CE without any updates installed: 1. the default icons in kde and konqueror look just great 2. the fonts are even better than in 9.2, no need for windows fonts here 3. my digital usb camera works now. When I plug it in, an fstab entry is automatically created, also a /mnt/removable mount point. Can browse the files in konqueror. After installing digikam from contrib it feels like heaven ;-) 4. K3b works without problems. New is: when I insert an empty cd, k3b launches auomatically. Am I just lucky because of my hardware? Did I mentioned that the NIC, soundcard, graphical card ... are working out of the box? Inkubus, I hope that 10.0 Official will work for you!
  15. This is so weird. Part. the gnome - kde difference :o I have another proposal to keep you busy, the new Thomas Backlund kernel, 2.6.4 just arrived on the contrib mirrors: ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/Man...1-1mdk.i586.rpm
  16. Ix, I've seen more complaints about this. One observation was: this happens when using a router and *static* lan ip's. One workaround was: Replacing the internal dns server (the router adress, for example 192.168.xxx.x) with the external dns server's ip of your ISP (in resolv.conf - unsure about it) Might be worth to try. Add info: I am using a router which serves dyn. lan ip's with no problems. One general question. Do you see a difference in speed, besides the net problem, between the old and the new kernel?
  17. I also had this problem. I solved it with some config testing in KDE's Sound Configuration and removing Totem (which crashed a lot more). It doesn't crash now, but I'm using Mandrake 9.2 OEM with a few add-ons ;) 1, B) Lopo The problem with kaffeine was only on the 10.0 Beta with xfree 4.4. - solved after they reverted to xfree 4.3. Kaffeine is rock stable in 9.2 and 10.0 CE, no audio- video- or streaming-problems at all :-)
  18. Thanks, Lopo. ad 1/4: If I'd know *how* to get the pt locale to work for the mentioned apps, lol ad 2: kbear doesn't work for me, not stable here. gftp is. ad 3: you know it isn't planned to be an official 'release', just a demonstration of the mklivecd scripts. OO is about 100 MB. I like to keep my livecd simple, fast and small. There are around 100 Live CD available, many of them including OO, so no problem for the Portugal market Btw: the iso is on your server since last night - did you test it?
  19. There is now a Portuguese release of my LiveCD, KDE 3.2.1, KOffice, Kontact, konversation, Apollon, kopete, gthumb, gftp, bluefish and more: http://home.tiscali.nl/berenstraat/bilder/...portuguese.html
  20. When you used the flash-plugin rpm from macromedia, the files are installed in: /usr/lib/flash-plugin/ That's btw the dir to point konqueror to search for new plugins to get it to work.
  21. Just found out that there is a new Macromedia flash-plugin version for Mandrake 10.0 - flash-plugin-6.0.81-1.i386.rpm: http://macromedia.rediris.es/site_ri.html On my system I didn't need the libstdc++2.1 anymore. Works fine with konqueror. Don't know about Mozilla, firefox et al. anon, is it possible to add this rpm to the MUB download section (if it works with mozilla too ...)?
  22. Using the MCC software management I've added an update_source, I had to pick a server from a list. Worked! Everything ok. It's a /Mandrake-devel/stable ... tree. All fixes, updates are showing up. Almost every day 50 - 100 MB, mainly KDE. (well, I don't perform an update, too much every day at the moment, and I have no major problem with my system) But I browsed the packages, found a new evolution rpm, description: new release.... And there are more 'new version/new release' rpm's. Do I have a wrong update_source? Or are the versions in 10.0 not frozen? Is it possible that 10.0 in May comes with newer versions? Has anyone more informations on this? --anna, confused
  23. I would like to make a suggestion reg. the discussion here. Though it's hard I've learned the last year to make a distinction between the distribution Mandrake Linux and the company MandrakeSoft. (I won't comment the company here. I am not a paying customer nor do I own shares) I am very happy with 10.0 - and appreciate the effort of the many contributors (who don't get paid by MandrakeSoft) and the stuff and packagers. It's the first big distribution with the new kernel - with all problems involved. So, for a lot of people 10.0 CE won't work, and it's better to wait a few weeks. For the MUB users, members and visitors it is important that they'll find here in very clear words what 10.0 Community Edition actually is, what they can expect. For me, personally I'd call it: cooker-stable. Why? That's the name of the official ftp tree for CE. As bvc and anon said: a cooker snapshot.
  24. Quote MandrakeSoft "new release roadmap": http://www.mandrakelinux.com/en/pr-releaseprocess.php3 "The new release road map: The spirit of the new development road map is to keep providing a release similar to what was released in the past, which will now be called "Mandrake Linux Community." This is the regular Mandrake Linux distribution, based on Cooker, which goes through the traditional QA process. But from now on, a second 'rock-solid' version titled "Mandrake Linux Official" will be released two or three months after Mandrake Linux Community. This new version will include all Erratas applied to the initial release, and as a result will be particularly solid and problem-free. The Community release will be ideal for those who want the 'latest and greatest' features as soon as available, while the second release will be perfect for those who prefer to wait and avoid any potential glitches. What follows is the development process for our next major release, Mandrake Linux 10.0: 1) After the traditional debugging of several Beta and Release Candidates, the final version of "Mandrake Linux 10.0 Community" will be released in February/March. This version will be available for download and as a DVD-set through e-Commerce. 2) Then a Mandrake Linux 10.0 Stable branch will be opened, based on Mandrake Linux 10.0 Community. Security updates and bug fixes will be applied to this tree and will be publicly available in real time. 3) Two or three months later, in April/May, "Mandrake Linux 10.0 Official" will be created from the Mandrake 10.0 Stable branch. It will then be packaged for several products such as the Mandrake Linux PowerPack. Mandrake 10.0 Official ISO images will also be available for all contributors and Club Members; then, after a short delay, Mandrake Linux 10.0 Official Download Edition will be made available on public FTP mirrors." Thanks anon, for the clarification.
  25. LiveCD 10.0 with kernel 2.6.3 is already done, tyme. And working fine on most hardware. Still some minor problems left, but hopefully get resolved with kernel 2.6.4tmb which is already made but not yet available because of the cooker freeze: some NIC's, scsi stuff, usb devices, isdn ... Probably the script needs some changes too, but basically it's working fine. Meanwhile I played with slackware and made a livecd a la slax, very nice and fast as hell, you don't even notice that you are running a cd. But I can't help - I like Mandrake more. And 10.0 with kernel 2.6 is now as fast and responsive as slack with the old kernel.
